It looks like your boss intentionally hired you because you have no degree yet and tries to get you to do the work of several qualified developers as cheaply as possible. Seeing how this probably does not make him the most enjoyable guy anyway, there is no way to be sure he'd give you a good job reference even if you were able to do what he wants you to. I think he wants to squeeze you like a lemon and is testing how far he can go with you. You don't want to appear like a total pushover to him. He probably doesnt take backtalking and criticism well, but you should show him you have some spine and explain to him you can't turn water into wine. He will either have to accept this, or if he won't he'd have fired you soon anyway, so you don't have much left to lose right now. So I guess my advice is to use all the leverage you have as a lone developer, and stay as calm and factual as you can while doing that. He will either accept reality or fire you, not much else you can do about it. | ||

He may have read "The Prince" or some shit like that. 3) The only way for you to win in this situation is to make your own work goals and accomplish them, and not get fazed by your boss' demands. Though, if your boss truly cannot take 'no' for an answer (as in, he penalizes you for not meeting his demands even after you explain how unreasonable they are), then you probably will not ever be happy working for him. | ||

It fucking breaks my heart whenever I hear about a boss abusing his position to this degree. Guys like that need to be left alone forever. You need to quit as soon as possible. Tell him you're going back to school or you've been offered a job elsewhere and you want to accept. Three months resignation time, be sure to call in sick a lot and you're done. Your resume might take a hit, but hopefully your new boss would have some compassion when you explain the situation. Edit: Just read about your student loans. Maybe you even have a wife and children. That means the plan is put on hiatus indefinitely. You sound like a normal, caring person and you should leave this job as soon as possible. Seriously. He ran a tobacco import company in Soviet Russia for 20 years. He barely speaks English. I doubt he's read much of anything in English. 3) Last time I tried that he yelled at me for 2 hours. Constantly. I swear he never even stopped to take a breath. | ||
