Then I guess everyone in USA assumes everyone who's not a citizen comes to fuck up your shit.

Good thing that you edited out that part of your post where you mocked the person you quoted and actually made a complete fool of yourself.
Yes, that dude in the video is an idiot. He couldve answered calmly to all the questions and he couldve gotten out of there in a matter of minutes but he seriously f*cked himself trying to prove a worthless point.
Yes, at the border an officer doesnt know who you are, where you come from and why are you crossing the border. You can be a terrorist or a murderer or just guy trying to go shopping with his wife. There is no other way to make sure you are not a potential threat and in my opinion, everyone should understand this.

I did a ninja edit :X!

I just wonder if this type of procedure makes the US a safer place or feeds the hate of the threatening individuals.

Overreaction and bad questions/training does not mix well.

ok....let's assume everyone not a citizen and coming in is just going shopping...
I'm using the US an example just because they are the ones in the video...it doesnt matter what country you are entering, the same rule applies.
b4 you think im some idiot "america is best" guy, i was born in canada and i am a citzen of both canada and usa. ive also drove across the border atleast 50 times both ways without being arrested

"which stores"...really? If that was me i'd just answer the idiot and move on. Has anyone ever experienced this before coming from America to Canada? Just curious.

no, they usually wouldnt ask a dumb question like that, but just answer "we arent sure, it's our first time there" and move on.

Had the same problems twice while crossing to the Canadian side of Niagara a little more than a week ago. The border guards are really temperamental and moody.
Border patrol girl: "Where will you be staying?" Us: "the sheraton fallsview for one night." Border: "Do you have over $10,000 in cash?" Us: "no" Border: "Are you carrying any weapons?" Us: *lol* "no" Border: "Do you happen to be in possession in cocaine, marijuana, etc." (I don't remember if this was the exact question but they were along the same lines) Us: "no" (we are slightly chuckling because of the questions and how serious she is being) Border: "I seem to be missing something here. What is so funny about crossing international borders? Is there something I should know? Tell me." Us: ... My brother: "Well some of us are on vacation and enjoying life, obviously some people here are not." Border: ... "Passenger in the right front seat, you're crossing international borders. Lose the attitude." Brother: "Same to you ma'am"
Lol I can't believe what a bitch she was

Except 250 of the last 335 terrorist attacks have been domestic in origin..... The border guards are there to help discourage movement of terrorists? Most of them are already in the freaking country.....
|
no matter your beliefs on how careful border guards should be, having common courtesy when your job is interacting with people all day long is a must. guy in the OP was a big douche but the border guy was a douche too, if either of them decided to stop being a dick the whole situation would have been resolved
edit: also let's be honest, the cop just wanted to get back at the guy for acting like a snob
|
Heh, I haven't crossed the US border from Canada alone before but i have heard of many stories similar to this, where the smallest of altercations or misunderstandings lead to a huge hassle/problem. It makes me nervous because i have a short temper and i come from a middle eastern background, but the best thing to do I guess is just answer the officers question no matter how morally or politically justified you think are. Don't let that 5-10 minutes of questions with the border patrol officer ruin you're entire trip. If you think you were treated unfairly than write a letter or make a phone call after, and make you're complaint.
|
The guy was being a dick, but it also seemed unnecessary for the border guards to be flexing what little power they have on people passing through. Now you send two people to jail that were going to the mall with no priors? You ask them questions and expect an answer, but if they ask you a question all you have to say is "because". I would be quite annoyed by that too. Also, it's ok for you to put your hands on them, but if they even flinch they are assaulting you. I don't know. I think it would of been more clear if there were a video to go along with the audio.
I can see from there point of view that a man losing his temper could be some sort of threat, but it's not like he's a threat to the country because he loses his cool. If that were true every redneck drunk would be a national security threat. This stuff should be a two way street not just a "we say so" sort of thing. Can't give them a reasoning so throw them away until it can become a legal matter.

Moral of the story, stupid questions aren't taken seriously. Ask better and more pertinent questions. Say it was a terrorist that was lying about his intentions... you would receive the same answer, minus the attitude. I don't think anyone of "interest" is going to try to cause a scene.

Exactly, asking which exact store someones going into when their visiting a mall is rediculous.

wow
"when you pulled your arm away from the officer when he went to grab you, that was assault" "you made a clear threat it was on tape we have it all" "we don't need any grounds for our actions" LOL wtf... so stupid i hope he lost his job or got suspended.
When they said "oh you just threatened me?", all he said was what are you going to do? the guy was asking a simple question. such pathetic. Americans picking on Canadians, got a gun? oh i love violence and how it floods my mind when this stuff happens. im out. someone should shoot that prick square in his fucking eyes. BOOM
edit: <3

moral of the story....no matter how obnoxious border agents can be (its their job tho)....its never good to be a smartass.
some people just feel THE NEED to be a smartass at every given opportunity. being a smartass is just fuckin' asking for more trouble.
|
Some of these questions are pretty ridiculous. But I guess it's better to be safe than sorry. But still, this guy's a jackass about it. "Do you honestly think I'm lying to you?"... Really stupid question to ask. Obviously he's upset but he needs to keep his cool or it's gonna get worse... that should be really obvious.
But wow, the end where the guy's like "you're going to jail" is kind of retarded. lolol u threatened someone and your wife assaulted someone.. people use technicalities way too much. Grabbing someone's arm = life or death situation now, when the person doing it is obviously extremely anxious? Hmm.

I think this guy is unnecessarily aggressive. I can see his frustration but at some point you have to let shit go so you go on with your day.
