My god, these are customs officers, they are allowed to stop and search anyone they want, we gave them this right when we opened our borders between the two countries. You make simple declarations and they allow you into their country. If they want to search your car you pull over and you let them and then you are on your way. On the way back you do the same thing. It's the worst possible place to stand up for rights you don't have against people who have more power than you even realize and have a pretty stressful job.
No one did anything illegal or violating anyone's rights. They did their job and the guy decided for whatever reason that he should not be subjected to the same general rules as everyone else seeking to cross the border.
If you aren't capable of answering these simple, routine questions without being a sarcastic, self entitled shithead, then you don't deserve to cross the border.

Good job, you're brilliant. You're posting with prior knowledge of the outcome and actors (again, assuming it's not fake), which is 100% useless when examining the proper behavior of law enforcement. The vast majority of TL seems to be incapable of doing otherwise. And again, it's probably fucking fake. I'm not sure how I can stress that last sentence enough. Even if he was wearing a hidden mic on purpose so that he could annoy the first officer, he's not going to wear it past a metal detector into the border patrol interview office and he's not going to keep it on through jail and magically upload the audio file later. If it was from the police's perspective, 1. the audio quality would be a lot worse because they'd be using unidirectional wall/camera mics, 2. the voice quality would not be so consistent throughout every environment such as when they're taking him into the room and then after he sits down, and 3. it'd require 3 or 4 different feeds to be leaked and put back together (and again, they wouldn't all sound the same.) This is like a thinking puzzle all of you just failed. It should be even more clear when you look at the person's other videos.
Fair enough. Won't assume it's real. I've heard some real ones in the past and some pretty shitty stuff happens. The woman's voice was seriously extremely annoying too! Just thought I'd throw that in ^^

When entering a foreign country, comply with officers of that country and don't give any attitude. Gosh that's hard!
If I took a trip down to Mexico (or Canada) you better believe I'd do whatever ANY officer told me instantly. This guy was just stupid, and if it's real I think he deserves whatever he gets for being an idiot.

IMO the guy was intentionally taping this... there is no way in hell you should act the way he did when crossing the border. I don't care what the officer asks you, you need to comply. It is as simple as that. If he asks you what store you're going to you don't freak out. Instead you could say "I don't know" hell you could even ask him if he knows any good stores in said mall. Seriously if you're gonna act like a dick, don't come to my country.

Point 1: don't give the fucking police officers attitude. Most police officers (in my opinion and experience anyways, if you don't agree that's your opinion) join the force for a feeling of power over people. They like the feeling of knowing they can people someone in jail for giving them attitude and they don't like it when some smart ass starts giving them shit. Yeah a lot of times you will get arrogant police officers that will give you attitude and you will be expected to just sit there with a dumb pretty smile and say "yes, okay, great officer, Im glad I could help you today, goodbye". This is just the reality of life with police officers and there's nothing you can do about it.
Point 2: Don't fight with the police officers EVER. If they decide to search your car without a warrant on the spot, let them. If they decide to search your belongings when they dont have permission to, let them. If they decide to do ANYTHING illegal, let them. Then after everything happened, brign them to court for it and brign evidence, like a witness or a tape recording, You will NEVER win with a police officer when he's in your presence because he has a gun and a lot og the law behind him, so just do as he says and if he does anything wrong, bring him court and punish him in court for it. A good idea is to read about how to deal with police interigations. This will give you a good understanding of what you can and cannot do.
The guy in the video had a really big attitude. It's his fault he upset the officers and it's his fault he wastes his time in his interview. Next time just smile and let them do whatever they want.

For the questioning of why they went so in depth is because its a random anti terrorist measure they take. I would of probably been a smart ass too the cops. What mall are you going too...really? They don't need to know that. Clearly the cops were out of line. I worked over seas for the government doing similar work and we never did any of that shit. I'm pretty sure the 2nd cop that came in knew what happened was wrong but you can never go against your own people when your on the force. You just can't you have to back them up.

Anyways here are my opinions on this issue:
1. When an officer asks questions, just respond in a manner which will best give you the chances of getting through in 1-3 questions. They usually ask, like in the video:
"Where are you going?"
"How long are you going to be there?"
etc.
Just don't give attitude, and if you don't know, just say, "I don't know its a mall I've never been to before." Don't make yourself seem more peculiar and suspicious. By saying, "I don't know does it matter?" Gives a sort of implication of disrespect, which might register in the officers brain for disrespect of America, which might lead to TERRORIST.
2. The officer from the States was being precautious. Sure it might seem he was being a dick himself, but he wasn't. Border guards stop people for making any suspicious or peculiar responses. There was this time when my dad answered incorrectly going to the American border (this was our first time).
Officer: Who's car is this?
Dad: Joe's car.
Officer: Who's Joe?
Dad: I'm Joe.
^ they then told us to pass, and park at the inspection bay. Had to go into the office, gave them citizenship cards, insurance, etc, they inspected the car, and then we were let off.
Even while he turned out to be the owner, it was peculiar enough for the officer to stop us. They tend to be super suspicious, so just don't trip up during the questioning at the gate.
But honestly, its assault if he sways his hand away from the officer? Did he even know he was being arrested? BTW, Canadian law isn't that much different from american law, we just have different names for them, there's no charge for rape, its called sexual assault. We don't have felonies, except their called indictible offences. In making comparisons between the law, the border patrol was being a know-it-all.

On a serious note, I figured the recording was fake as well. But I know that the border guards are pretty relentless..... Just think of what it would be like when they see about 40 lbs of what appears to be cocaine in large containers in your trunk..... Yea..... Not a fun experience.....
Honestly, if someone really wanted to cross the border, they'd make sure they were not acting suspicious (and likely make sure that some people right ahead of them are acting suspicious on purpose to distract the guards)..... Those are probably the ones you should be most scared of..... And you'd never know it.....

I've never had this when I cross from Canada to US, and most of the time they couldn't care less. They all look really bored and dead lol. So idk about these guards, they are really giving him are hard time, but he could have reacted better.

Unlikely to be real for reasons mentioned in a post above (how did they record it?).
If it is real, the guy is being a little provocative. A polite, calm, and submissive demeanor would have done him good. Likewise, the border patrol guy was a dick, but he's under a lot of stress + deals with who knows how many annoying people a day.
Not all border patrol agents are like this; you get a few bad eggs in every bunch, similar to how not all cops beat up minorities, but a few do and they give the rest a bad name.

When I went to the US the policeman at the airport asked me a bunch of ridiculous questions. It went like this:
Cop: "What are you doing in the US?"
Me: "Just looking for some leisure time"
Cop: "Where are you going after this?"
Me: "I'm going to check in my hotel"
(couple more questions like this one later)
Cop: "Are you happy?"
Me: "I'm sorry?..."
Cop: "I ASKED YOU, are you happy?"
Me: "I guess so, yes"
Now I understand the cop was doing his job and although I was bored to hell awnsering to the first questions what kind of retarded piece of crap comes up with "Are you happy?".
A bit off topic, I just wanted to share this funny (sad) story.
About the canadian guy... he was a dick. It's true that the "What shop?" was a bit unecessary but if you are entering another country all you want to do is awnser their questions. Simple.

I'm about six minutes in, and I have no sympathy for this guy at all. The part from six minutes onward is a bit of bullshit from the USA side, but the guy totally brought that shit on himself. He acted like a complete asshole the entire time, to every one involved. Maybe the altercation with the border officer I could see being both sides to blame, as the officer was being a prick as well, but the man inside interviewing was being very respectful, and that guy just wanted to keep being argumentative.
