The pstriple is actually cheaper now thanks to PSN being free, so if you think with your wallet it's a nice bonus.
If your a fanboy of Final Fantasy games or just japanese games in general, they're far more likely to be on ps3 and will be made for ps3 first unlike most games which perform better on 360.
But if you've got a lot of friends who play on live, it may be worth the extra cash and eventual rrod because the 360 online community really is that much bigger.
PSN store is nice, it actually has an inbuilt movie rental system where you can download movies for ~$4 (HD is $5). 360 has a much bigger marketplace of games and is connected to netflix.
Honestly though, an HD setup is 100% worth it if you've got the means. Graphics don't make or break anything, but I seriously doubt you still watch VHS tapes. And if you do go the HD route (HD monitors with no input delay run ~$200 on newegg with free shipping if you dont care about TV itself) pick up an HDMI cable from newegg or monoprice and save yourself at least $30.
I think PSN is getting castle crashers some time in November or something. The newgrounds team is literally about 6 people, so the cross system ports take a while
Hahaha that's a funny picture. To be honest, just get upgrades for your PC or something. I have a Xbox 360 and a Wii and I barely play them, ends up being a waste of time. If you get something you might as well get a PS3 for the Blu-Ray :o
With Black Friday upon us I thought it ok to bump this thread and not start a new one asking simply which should I buy.
Xbox Reasoning I love the games on the Xbox but I don't like the fact that of the five people I know who own one theirs have died on them. The Xbox has a lot of downloadble games such as castle crashers, duke 3d, south park tower defense that I would be interested in getting. I really just want to play people online in sports games such as NBA 2K10, and with XBOX live there will be lots of people playing but I dont want to pay the fifty bucks a year.
PS3 Reasoning I love the playstation controller, I don't know why it just more comfortable in my hand. I don't have to pay for multiplayer but I hear the psn has very few users and I may have to wait 15 mins just to get into a game. Blue ray(gf wants that ).
I personally don't care about avatars, trophies/awards, twitter/facebook, movie/music downloads/renting, non-downloadable exclusives halo/gow resistance 2/killzone.
Questions I have are Does the PS3 support more than two player local multiplayer? Does the PSN have enough players to get games pretty much whenever I would try? Is paying for xbox live really worth it? Does the Xbox really rrod that often? Does the PS3 slim have issues with dying?
There are deals all over the place but for the the PS3 I am looking at the Walmart PS3 slim with uncharted, batman archum asylum, and the dark knight blue ray.
As far as deals go this season, PS3 wins, I'd say.
As for which to choose, go with whatever games you want more. 360 does have a good amount of games, and if multiplayer is your thing, Live is great. I can't speak for the PSN side of things, as I've yet to experience it, but I'm more of a single player gamer. Finally getting my PS3 for sexy RPG time.
For defects, I wouldn't really worry about them too much anymore. From what I understand, new 360s should hardly ever RROD, due to the new chip set, or whatever. And if it does, and you're still under warranty, I'm pretty sure you can send it back for free, and they'll give you a free month of Live for the inconvenience, though you'll be without your console for a month or so. For PS3 slim, it's still relatively new, though I have heard of some very rare problems with it, with rare being the key word.
I know that the PSN is finally coming out with some decent downloadable games, but Castle Crashers is awesome.
Personally, there's hasn't been an exclusive game out on 360 within the last year or so that I've actually had to play. Believe it or not, the last exclusive I seriously played on the console was Castle Crashers.
So, make your decision based on games, and how much multiplayer means to you, I guess. My guess for PSN, though someone who actually has it will have to say otherwise, is that only the unpopular games are hard to find people for, which could be said true for 360, to an extent.
Once again, I'll say that PS3 bundle this year is really sexy. Two good games + a great movie on Blu Ray.
I have an Xbox 360 & PS3 and I would say Xbox 360 is by far the better choice at this point. There are plenty of good exclusives on both, but for me, Mass Effect 2 seals the deal. Not only that, but some of PS3's most prized exclusives are coming Xbox 360 anyway, such as Final Fantasy XIII.
Both are worth getting, but if I had to choose one, it would be the 360.

I have an Xbox 360 and PS3 also, but Xbox360 is by far not the better choice for me. This is my decision making flowchart for buying games: For games that are on the PC, Xbox and PS, PC gets the pick. For games that are on the Xbox and PS, PS gets the pick. For games that are on the Xbox and only the Xbox, well, not much of a choice here. Same thing for PS exclusives.
Like DoctorHelvetica said, a lot of the "best" games out there are actually on PC too. Mass Effect 2? PC all the way. (Played Mass Effect 1 on PC already)
You answered your own question when you said you don't want to pay a subscription fee and your girlfriend wants a Blu-ray player. PSN is pretty much like XBL except less people but there is still like 250,000 people playing MW2 on PS3.
I think its a waste of money to buy a 360 for the same amount as a PS3 nowadays. PS3 is the better console. Pimp ass hardware, 1080p bluray support meaning not only is it a better display media but the games will be bigger because bluray cds are fucking massive. PSN is good for me, I play SF4 and have a shitty ISP and still have plenty of competition. It comes with an internet browser so all I have to do is google surfthechannel and I can stream the world straight to my television. Syncs really easily with your home PC for movie streaming (great for dling shit on the fly and watching in bed with your gf) and is just way more versatile. The controller also works for your PC so you can play old emulators with a ps3 controller instead of keyboard (pimp). Only excusable reason for buying a 360 now a days over a PS3 is if you want to get into competitive shooters. 360 definitely has the market there and xbox live would come in handy. Also 360 exclusives are all shooters (gears, left 4 dead, halo) but PS3 has better RPGs and the rest of the games are shared between the systems.
To recap PS3 for: Streaming Pimp internet Blu-ray Longevity (I'm sure xbox 1080 is due anytime now, 360 came out cause xbox original couldn't compete with ps2) and ps3 fanboyism (its the ultimate system, be on the winning team, fuck xbox) rechargable wireless controllers. pimppp
edit: also ya, ps3 supports 4 player local multiplayer.
