So a couple of months ago I made a promise to myself, lose weight. Cause as it is right now I have a hard time looking myself in a mirror. I just dont like what I see. Or that's a understatement. I HATE what I see. That doesnt mean that I'm unhappy or depressed, I like my life. I think it's great. I go to school and get a challange there every day, I have friends with whom I socialize often and I dont feel the need for a girlfriend, I like being single and I'm a really smooth talker whenever I want to.
I just decided that eventhough I'm happy with my life, losing weight would make me feel even better and it would help me in my everyday life. (It isnt funny to constantly be bumping into things because you're bigger then you think)
So I decided to analyze myself and get to the core of my problems. Why am I this fat? 1) I'm way to lazy. I just dont do active things. I take a bus whenever I'm going somewhere, and if there arent any busses I'll take a taxi. 2) I love my fastfood. Pizza, burgers, kebab you name if I love it. Seriously sometimes I'm like that bacon-kid on youtube. 3) I feel slimmer then I am. This is a huge point. I don't FEEL fat, I am fat but I don't feel like I am. 4) I get way to excited about a new plan I have and don't follow trough. I'm basically like a ADHD kid when it comes to this, but in a lazy way. "OMG IM GOING TO BE THE BEST STARCRAFT PLAYER OF ALL TI- OMG HOW FUN WOULDNT IT BE TO CODE MY OWN- OMG OMG OMG IM GONNA BE THE BEST AT" and so on.
So what am I going to do? 1) I'm gonna learn to see things long term. I'm planning to lose weight ok, so I'm not gonna notice anything right away. I might even have a problem at noticing at all. That's why I'm going to take one picture, every Sunday, and make a new blog here with my workout diary. 2) I'm not gonna start out with the mindset of "IM GONNA PRACTISE 4 HOUR EVERY DAY!", instead I'm going to start out with 1 hour every day. Low intensity. Walking, swimming and other activities (please reccomend something to me). 3) I'm going to LIMIT my fast food intake. Every Sunday I go out with a friend to a sportsbar, we watch a NFL game, have a beer or two and eat. Once a month I'm gonna allow myself to order a burger and a dessert. They have better dishes that I'm gonna order the other times. 4) Less soft drinks. I'm not a huge user of coca-cola and stuff like that. I'm just going to drink water and milk instead. 100% of the time.
So that's my plan really. And since I made the commitment to post a picture here every week with my work out diary I wont run away from this anymore. This is the first time I'm losing weight because I want to do it for myself. So I'll do my best to make this work.
Pictures of me. Week 0 (no the t-shirt isnt that tight, I was holding it back with one hand so you could see what I'm talking about). Profile:

Good job! Take it slow so you know you can handle it. Don't give up
|
Start running, its hard as fuck but it gives results so fast really! You should start to eat vegitables a lot..

Good luck. Running and diet are the two best things for weight loss.
EDIT: I think I might join you in your fitness endeavor, I am way out of shape compared to my previous self T_T;

It is not healthy to lose more than two pounds in a week. Don't go crazy trying to lose weight, but instead make a permanent change in your lifestyle that will slowly bring you down to a more healthy weight and allow you to maintain it once you get there.

Man that's scary, the way you described yourself is exactly the same as I would describe myself. Only difference being that I still can't put myself into losing weight, altho I want to.
Good luck man!

To those saying I should start running: I wish I could start out there, but since I'm quite tall (1,97m) I dont look as fast. If I were to start running my knees would be screwed within 1-2 months and then I'd really be in trouble.
fantacist and disco: Let me just give you this advice: do it before it's too late. The longer you wait the harder it'll become, and suddenly you cant hardly go up stairs without breathing like you just ran a marathon!
APurleCow: Yea that's my main plan, not to go crazy and go on these starving diets, because belive it or not: I know alot of training and dieting. I'm just not using my own advice.

Good job man. If you keep up the dieting and working out, there will be a day when you look at your body and you can't even remember what it was like to be fat. It happened to me, it can happen to you.
As a few others have stated, running is a fantastic way to start. It is my workout of choice.

I would say just start walking more and eating healthy every day. Leaving one day for junk food is fine. Running is necessary for losing weight, just find an activity you find fun and stick with it (doesnt matter what sport as long as you are active)

ofc, you have to start walking... Then you add like 100 meters running, then 200.. etc, and in a half year, you will be able to run as much as ur heart desire

I'm not at a state where I'm overweight... I'm just out of shape and UNDERweight ):

Try fast walking or buy a bicycle and go biking & or go to a gym and use the automatic bikes.

That's awesome to hear that you're working on losing weight! As long as you're completely motivated to lose the weight you will accomplish your goal. It's not easy, but once you see the weight start dropping it will only get you more motivated to keep going.
I have lost about 100lbs in a few years time and I can safely say that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. Make sure you start small by cutting out the sodas, desserts, and switching to skim milk if you drink whole (it's not easy at first, but you will get use to it). Also be sure to watch the amount your eating. Once you feel full, stop eating, don't try and stuff yourself just because the food is good (I had this problem). Start exercising when you feel ready. Don't try and kill yourself doing more than you can handle, just take it slow at first. Eventually, you will be able to figure out a decent routine that works for you whether it's in your home or gym.
If you need anymore tips feel free to PM me and I will be happy to answer your questions.

Julmust Hwaiting!
I'm with you on this man I'm going to lose some weight either I'm only 1.7m tall and 70kg but my body fat percentage is much higher than it used to be.
My advice is to stop drinking alcohol and anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup it's so bad for you. Eat a lower carb diet but don't cut them out(it will make you feel tired a lot more). More protein and fruits/vegetables.
Imo Swimming is what you should take up. It's very low impact and it burns TONS of calories I mean look at Michael Phelps, the guy eats 8000 calories a day worth of food while he's training and he's so cut his abs have abs. If you can't really get into swimming then try to just run on an elliptical it's lower impact for your knees. Also a really good tip I've heard is to start doing full body work outs where you do some resistance training(lifting weights) but target all of the major muscle groups. Anyways I'll be taking pictures with you starting this Sunday buddy for I'm going to lose some fat too and hopefully gain a bit more muscle.

Lift weights, drink lots of water, eat lots of veggies and cut down on sugar and snacks =p

Awesome man. For the diet, my recommendation is dont minimize ur intake, just change what you are eating. Salads with tuna for example is a great great way to start loosing weight. Also, Id recommend you do the 3 apple a day diet, it helps ur organism:
1) Always be full. You eat an apple when ur getting hungry 2) It will reduce the craviness for sweets and other junk 3) It will accelerate your metabolism.
That combined with daily excercise will do the trick. A friend of mine managed to loose soooo much weight in about 4 months with this, i was impressed. Its been a year over his diet, he now eats normally, but much less, and is as skinny as after the diet. Good luck and always follow the goal!
