Get better soon Jockmcplop.
Just out of curiosity, if you are comfortable answering, what was the minor complaint and how did on Earth did they identify kidney failure from that?

I had an itchy rash on my ankles that had been worsening for months so i went to the walk in center at the hospital for what I thought would be a 20 minute appointment and a prescription for cream or something. They did a blood test as a precaution and the levels of EVERYTHING were out of whack.

Hope you get better and get that transplant sooner than later.

Fuck, I am now gonna freak out from every rash for years after I read this. This would seriously be an absolute nightmare for me, I have big respect to how well you seem to be taking it.

Get well soon man, if you don’t hit GM during this time I’ll be sorely disappointed :p
Hopefully you find the benefits system smoother to navigate than I did

They managed to assess me on a solid 0/40 for needs upon discharge from psychiatric hospital where I’d been for a year, lovely system there

Weird I know someone who has the exact same problem as you. Started with the rash (alias purpura). Now he's on suppressants to stop his own antibodies from attacking his kidneys. Would interest me to know if there's a non-genetic cause.

Reminds me of when I got diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Hope that transplant comes. I'd donate mine but I'm barred because of the cancer. Can't even donate blood.
Good luck!

My late uncle had three kidney transplants over the course of his life and he managed to live through almost 30 years of dialysis. I believe you can do better Jock.

damn, hope it works out for you and you get a transplant quickly, you're a good guy.

Damn, that fuckin' sucks. I really hope you get a transplant soon and that it goes well. Dialysis definitely sounds scary but I'm glad you're taking it well, that probably bodes well.
Get well soon!

Thanks so much for all your kind words guys <3 If I hadn't had training on coping with mental health issues I would be freaking out right now probably so that's good I guess... At least I will have more time for mafia now @TaardadAiel I don't actually know my blood type. Weird considering I need a transplant but I'm focusing on adjusting to my dialysis right now then once I'm settled I will start thinking about a transplant. The medical staff seem to think I will go fairly high on the transplant list because I'm young compared to most renal patients.
Also thanks for TL+ fluidrone
I might do a blog about the experience of dialysis at some future date, just for informational purposes...

Wish you all the best! Do you have any idea what the cause of the kidney failure might be? Those things don't just die out of nowhere.

In essence it's this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IgA_nephropathy
Has multiple causes that can lead to it afaik, partly genetic, but genetics play a role in almost everything.
Caveat: There may be other causes I'm not aware of.
