I mean back when I played a lot, townies would preach about how lynching lurkers was a bad thing and to "just leave them to vigis." If town isn't going to put real pressure on lurkers then why shouldn't scum lurk too.

I kinda agree with this.
Especially as someone who had stuff going on, and in the end probably spent ~5 hours actually playing/reading.

I actually had quite a bit of fun playing with the idea that I would never really go back and read and instead just focus on how people were playing and interacting in smaller portions. My Scum-reads were not amazing and I often focused the wrong people, but I think I was able to identify enough Town and had a fair few scum in my sights.
Overall was nice to try and play again, but I think time investment vs the return is no longer there for me in Mafia. People did a good job keeping the atmosphere pretty tolerable as well (well ok, maybe I shouldn't say that when I read like 5% of the last 450 pages).
I do think 35 players is pushing what I find an enjoyable mafia experience, so easy to forget people in that mass. Hosts did a good job balancing roles for the game size, but might have been better to be clearer about how the setup might have been changed from OP.

This was a fun game.
Holy shit I've been playing games here for 4 years?!?

Rels and DF were most obvious. Rels' mason role was bad enough, but once Ace flipped, if anyone had simply read Rels' filter you had only TWO things: (1) scum tunnel on Ace (2) too much talking from him on the mason thing. Literally zilch with pushing anyone through day 3.
Wiggles was more obvious from NKA, but by Day 4, his filter was pretty meh. Still wasn't 100% on him, because so many others looked worse at points.
And I would have 1000% mislynched Meapak. I am actually really shocked MZ was not mafia.
And I was so sure that one of Oats/Mocsta/Acro was scum, with a lean on Mocsta because he had the most dubious posts from a town perspective....at least until that video. Turns out none of them were. Acro was at least trying to re-evaluate, at least he tried.
I would have never caught Jock without a redcheck. For first time to TL Mafia, welcome, first off, and second you played quite well.
Finally, if it wasn't obvious or already said, the blue role implosion day/night 1 really really hurt you lot.

I've played on and off here for almost 9 years and this place was sort of a haven for me when I was growing up. I like all the vets who showed up and had fun getting to know the new people I hadn't played with. I felt like the thread atmosphere was a lot of fun and I'd love to see us run a game maybe once a quarter or so, that way people don't get burned out and also have a chance to block out their schedules to play.
Agreed. I've only been here five years (and I can't believe how quickly time has flown honestly), I was telling Kita earlier that almost everyone here has been a pleasure to meet and play with. I think once a quarter to thrice a year is pretty sustainable I would think.

I called Pandain, for the record. Ah well

Ggwp scum team, you did absolutely what was necessary in terms of activity. Town should never have been taking out active voices early.

Yeah I figured he was scum... But never could people to listen. He did confuse me for a bit taking the lynch off of ace. But I was back on him after I claim survivor but at that point I couldnt get anyone to listen at all...

I hope people want to play in Onegu's game even though it's themed should be fun! Also Onegu for the record I really thought you were scum when you claimed Survivor lol.......

Yea honestly anything over 20 is too much imo. But I get why we wanted to get as many as possible for this one

PM people to organize and you can make a great turnout.
thanks hosts! Thanks Chezinu!

Alternatively impose a post-restriction. Post restricted games were my most easily managed (and enjoyable) ones, win or lose.

it's funny that one shot can exonerate me from my otherwise trash reads (except the hard TRs, always trust my hard TRs). losing five townies including multiple town leaders in the first cycle really killed us. definitely i am learning not to lynch active players on D1. i feel an odd sense of pride for playing in the 3rd-spammiest game in history, but i often woke up to 30+ new pages and had to make the call to skip most of them. 35 players is fun but makes it hard to keep up with thread and even harder to keep track of the reads and reasoning on everyone. anyway, thanks to the hosts! disappointing to get punk'd this hard by mafia, but the scumteam played generally solidly. very fun nonetheless. this game reminds me both why i play mafia and why i sort of stopped.

I don't even feel like there was that much "spam" as characterized by off topic posting. Just a lot of active people trying to solve the game.

Yeah, it wasn't off topic, but there was a lot of stuff like people posting seven one-liners in a row instead of in one post, or asking for people to link them to cases or other stuff instead of just finding it. One example of this is was Acro's role claim which ended up with a whole bunch of pages speculating how it worked after we had already had the exchange of:
Me: "Can you explain your role Acro?" Acro: "Sure, here's the details..."
I ended up reading each and every post of this game haha. It ate a ton into my four hour time window where I could play in the evening even when I was trying to keep up a bit on reading during work.
I actually leaned on how much stuff got buried to not answer a few questions that would have had awkward answers. Since the thread was moving so fast nobody noticed or cared. Probably one of the most damning things against me was someone asked what I thought of HF wanting to kill Palmar on D1 and I just ignored them lol. Good luck finding that exchange afterwards when filter diving unless you knew what you were looking for though
|
Overall my D1 play was really bad while I was shaking off 5+ years of rust. Palmar pegged me, but luckily HF followed through with his "kill Palmar" plan. Palmar also didn't post reasoning that I saw, so there wasn't a case, just an accusation.
This made things harder for me going forward, because a bunch of people had it in their head that I was scummy because of the "sheep Palmar" mentality. I showed up in a ton of scum lists with this reasoning, and it's part of the reason I was in something like 8/13 dead townie's reads, I think. We weren't even trying to kill my accusers on purpose, it just turned out something like half the game thought I was scum coming out of D1 lol.
After this I basically kept pushing town reads on a few of the people who were accusing me, wanting to kill me, or wielding town influence like HF, Acro, rsoultin, and Ace. This seemed to work since I didn't really get pushed by them after a while. The closest was probably rsoultin's half scum read on me.
The Dead Zone Show was something I started just to have fun. I figured I'd be lynched by D3 and potentially sooner after Palmar, so I wanted to have some fun while I was still around. There wasn't an ulterior motive like TS and Oats implied, I just did it for laughs, and will probably do something similar in future games, since it did end up being a lot of fun for me.
For a fun tidbit, all of the Dead Zone Show songs were taken from the soundtrack of True Detective Season 3. This was to set up the stupidest role claim breadcrumb in history when my lynch rolled around. Mocsta stole my thunder by fake claiming parity cop before I could though.

I really was sad about the Chez lynch too haha. The brown bomber was one of my favorite characters in the town!
|
Wiggles I hope if we have more games you do the deadzone again. I promise not to read it as a scum meta.
|
Brown bomber and suspected criminal Rels calling in were hilarious.
