I'm curious as to how much focusing on individual Vikings is worth it though... since their death timers are reduced, they only give 1/4 exp, and there's 3 of them. I'd assume that there would be plenty of instances where it's more important to focus other things instead of split Vikings?

If you do it right as a team, you can farm the Vikings as a matter of course while rotating around the map. Basically, you're not giving up much with the ganks on the Vikings. Keep in mind that part of this is dependent upon whether the Vikings' other teammates being able to exert sufficient map pressure elsewhere.

Again, let me stress that effectively preventing the Vikings from split soaking isn't easy to do. It requires a high degree of team coordination, and the vast majority of players simply don't have the requisite awareness.

If you're splitting the vikings into 2 lanes while your allies push a third, is there any particularly ideal way you divide up the vikings between the two lanes? Like Olaf going solo while the other 2 pairing up?

Olaf requires the least amount of supervision because of his higher health pool and high regeneration. Eric and Baelog are pretty damned easy to kill and need to be rotated to fountain more frequently.

I don't know how the list was compiled though since different heroes scale differently... Edit: Point being, Olaf is basically on-par with other heroes stats wise already so he's a good choice to solo.

So my first HL match is a fact after about 350 QM games. With QM lately being even more random than usual I went for HL even though I don't exactly know all ten heroes like the back of my hand though I know most of the builds for them. + Show Spoiler + So my first ever draft shows up for Sky Temple and the enemy gets first pick and goes for Illidan, okay. We get two picks next and the second player instantly goes Raynor (okay...) and the first player picks Malfurion, so we have a healer although Uther might've been better against Illidan. The next two picks are Anub'Arak and Rehgar for the enemy team and I get to pick after with the 4th player, who has a had a Valla pre-picked the second the draft started. Given the enemy team's composition I go for Muradin so I can stun Illidan out and slow him with a Thunderclap build. The 4th player goes for Valla. At this point I'm concerned we might not have enough stuff to deal with Illidan and that this could be a rough first match when the remaining two players on the enemy team suddenly pick Arthas and Tyreal, going for three tanks and Illidan as their only assassin. Suddenly I'm feeling better about the match since the enemy team is sorely lacking damage output and I can slow down their only assassin. But then in comes our 5th player with a weird name and crappy internets that has Anub prepicked but he's already chosen ofcourse and the timer runs out. And then the game decides we should get..............*drum roll*...........a Nova. A. Nova. Against three tanks! With the game taking forever to load I'm already fearing (accurately) that the Nova player is having crappy internet and when we finally load Nova is disconnected but eventually reconnects. Even though it was my first HL match I still figured we had the better composition as long as we focused the right target, that being Illidan, so unlike in QM, I chat a lot with team to give as much simple advice as possible, mainly that we should focus on Illidan and not chase any target too far. With three tanks the enemy team gets an early lead killing off Nova and Raynor and I'm starting to fear the worst. Luckily the enemy team is so focused on top trying to kill off heroes that me and Malfurion are soaking their empty lanes. We still end with a 6-7 fight on the lower shrine, but because our team is actually focusing Illidan, he goes down quite fast and isn't able to do much being stunned and slowed half the time. As with our own team, the enemy team also has heroes trying to solo the team and Arthas and Rehgar get picked off as a result. We hit level 10 at about the same time when Raynor decides randomly that he wants to take our bruiser camp. The enemy team is for some reason thinking the same thing and we eventually clash. The teamfight splits in half quite fast with Illidan going south and going for Raynor while the rest are randomly fighting. Since Raynor is nearly dead I jump Illidan and stun/slow as Raynor starting unloading the damage. Illidan tries to run back to his team but he dies and the fight snowballs from there, they just don't have any damage. This becomes more apparent when I go for the full tank build on Muradin with Avatar, Spell Shield and Stone Form and they just can't kill me fast enough. It is 16-14 at this point where they have one hero down and we're all near the boss so I ping it and we go for it. The enemy team tries to interrupt and they unload all their damage on but I survive with Malfurion's help and the fight turns around fast after that. We nearly got core with the boss when the enemy team was respawning and another temple phase started so Malfurion figured to go for that. I went to leave as Valla and Nova decided to stay behind and both got killed. This left us with a 3v5 at the temple where we nearly all died. Luckily the game didn't turn around completely as we hit 20 when they hit 18 and they lost the next teamfight and we killed the core from there. Quite different from QM where it is just random players fighting randomly but in HL you can get a decent composition. I was hoping to play Sylvanas since I've been playing with her for a few days now and having a lot of fun but the team needed a tank so Muradin was the logical choice and it was still a fun match anyway. EDIT: And the second match was pretty much a curbstomp, in my favor luckily. + Show Spoiler + Haunted Mines was the map so I was hoping we could get a Sylvanas. The enemy gets first pick and goes for Raynor. (what's with the all Raynors?) I get first pick for our team and I have Sylvanas so I lock her in and teammate #2 goes for Li Li, which is alright by me, a healer's a healer after all. The enemy team then picks Gazlowe (okay..........) and Anub'Arak. Our third player however, is apparently AFK and the game picks Abathur for him. The fourth gets Muradin so we have a tank. The rest of the enemy team then goes for Valla and E.T.C and our final player gets Tyrande. This means they have no healer versus a Sylvanas with a healer on Haunted Mines. However, we have an AFKathur who is doing nothing so it's a 4v5.....cringe. Once again though, the enemy team is focused on only killing heroes and they're all in bottom trying to kill Muradin. This leaves the entire top lane open for me and I burn through the minion waves, get a tower and a level advantage. The enemy team did not get a kill the entire time and are now a level behind, even though we're 4v5. At this point Anub'Arak comes back to top as the mines are starting to open. Gazlowe and Anub'Arak go in top and my team is in bottom so I rotate there since I can't go top mines alone. The 4v5 hurts us here and we only manage to get about 25 skulls, but as we fall back we get a few hero kills and we end up pushing bottom with my Sylvanas shutting down their towers. It's 7-6 for us now and we nearly get the fort before the golem gives out. No one on the enemy team was pushing with their golem so we kill it with our fort at 50%. The Abathur player suddenly leaves and we get a bot Abathur, which is still way way better than nothing. We now have a working Abathur and suddenly we can push a lot harder as a team. Without a healer they don't have any sustain and we quickly kill the bottom fort and get level 10. Gazlowe did manage to be smart and push our top fort and kill it, but we did manage to kill him and start pushing top when the mines opened again. We quickly got the first batch of skulls but we got way too split up because of it and we lost two heroes and Anub'Arak nearly got me as well. We did get 46 skulls so that was decent enough with only the boss remaining. I see the team wanting to push bottom while the enemy is busy with boss so I go there as well and we start pushing hard as the golem activates. Expecting the enemy team to come in full force now I ping to fall back a bit but with Muradin arriving our whole team is there and we still have a level advantage and Sylvanas shutting down towers. The push completely snowballs as we manage to kill a Keep while their Gazlowe is randomly getting our siege camp and we push for core as we get 13-11 and get a talent advantage as well and quickly bring down the core for an 11:33 game.

The gargantuan was carrying a minion and then dropped it at the boss, giving the other team vision of the boss fight, leading to their death and boss steal.
