Ive changed my mind. I like this season after all and the finale was perfect.
All the complaints about "filler" and "no closure' in my mind was purposeful by the writers as red herrings. The writers wanted you to be distracted and look away what the core of this show is about, which is Dexter, who, has a remarkably close family tie to Deb.
The way the show reminded us all of the powerful bond that Dexter and Deb had all their life was beautifully done. I couldnt stop weeping, their bond was a hallmark throughout the series and was fundamentally a pillar in Dexter's life. So upsetting what happened to Deb, but I guess someone had to have serious consequences for viewers to feel invested , and also the show is called Dexter not Deb. Really sad that it happened, but kudos to the writers, they knew Dexter was ultimately destructive and that trait has always been consistent despite Dexter trying to be something else.
And if you think no-one can survive a hurricane in the ocean, you obviously haven't seen the movie "Life of Pi" based on a true story.
I did predict in this thread that I hope the writers will re-float the Dexter series, and with this ending, looks like we will see more Dexter in the future. I will miss Deb, but it will be a different show with a different Dexter, looking forward to it.

I think it was obvious that Quinn and Batista understood that Dexter went in there with the intention of murdering that man, which is why I loved the scene so much. Batista finally saw the other side of Dexter, and it really scared him.

Wow... Looks like the spoilers were right about Deb dying... They seriously needed to do that in order to make the ending memorable after such a garbage season.

im going to go and watch seasons 1 and 2 again, just so i don't remember dexter as the worst f********ing show of all time wtf this ending

This season is a joke, and "tragical" ending with Dexter dying would seem nothing more but a stupid gimmick at this point. Season is beyond saving.

I prefer to remember Dexter fondly, and look past all the terrible moments of this season and season 6. I will miss the show.

Now when I've seen the ending I'm really sad that show is over. The ending were not too shabby but the season were the worst. I would really liked to see Dexter's dark secret be reviled by Batista, Quinn or someone close to him but they choose to end this show with a very sad theme and I'm okey with that. Dexter will still be one of the best series overall.

I've given up on this show years ago but I'm curious about something if anyone is nice enough to enlighten me.
Did Deb ever find out that Dexter was a cereal killer? What about his colleagues (Batista and co)?

Seriously? I watched 8 seasons to find out Dexter becomes a lumberjack. I got trolled by shit writers.

So you only watch shows to see how they end? I think posts like yours are retarded. The final season and the ending were pretty bad but overall the show was good.

I was still secretly hoping for mecha doakes. Oh well

I'd say I watch shows for the journey not the destination, but this journey sucked after the first 4 and the lumberjack bit is just confusing. So what? Now he has a life of solitude where maybe he will meet more people whose lives he can ruin? It doesn't make sense.

If you could read you'd probably understand that the point was that when you invest a lot of time into anything, even a show, for it to be such a let down at the end upsets some people.

So I think I'm going to finish seasons 1-4 and read the highest rated fanfiction for the ending, because it can't be any worse than what people think of the writing past that point. Also the books are quite good.

The fade out scene at the end felt like it would have been very poignant if I had given a shit anymore. Dexter realizing he had feelings, only to have to let them go and live in isolation because of who he is... and interesting ending for a character I used to care quite deeply for, but no longer do.
Well at least Harrision only has one serial killer parent now instead of two....

Not the ending I would have wished for (Batista shooting Dex), but it's certainly the best episode of this shitty season.
Doesn't make it a good finale, but it's not as bad as it could have been. After this season I wouldn't have been surprised had they had lightning strike the boat, which wakes Deb from her coma.

Meanwhile in hell... + Show Spoiler +Oliver: He stabbed me in police custody. The other officers were fine with it. You've got to be kidding me. Skinner: Nobody found this to be disturbing? Miguel: What the hell is wrong with the law enforcers in this city? Doakes: On my watch, Dexter wouldn't have gotten away with that shit. Travis: But isn't this a show where basically every other episode is about covering up evidence because the protagonist works in forensics? Maria: Yes, about half of the regular cast are not completely incompetent police officers. Isaak: Indeed. I got arrested on a drop of blood. Brian: They got to me through a suspicious bruise. Trinity: They even ceaselessly traced my killing patterns for 30 years. Lila: Internationally, too. Harry: That's why I told Dexter to always be super-duper careful to not get caught. Deb: Don't worry, dad, Dexter will be safe. He has a beard now, so nobody will mind that he demonstrably framed a private eye and that he left his murder weapons at a crime scene where a Fed was killed and a police officer got shot before he murdered the prime suspect in that case and told the police as much prior to euthanizing the last witness of said crime scene who earlier had attested to him being a killer, just like every other police officer who turned up dead over the last couple of years.

I don't get you guys, this episode was a good ending, way better than I imagined after the last seasons.
