Unless I missed them (there were a few moments I zoned out), wtf @ no Astor and Cody?!
I mean really, I know they're pretty much useless now that Rita is gone, the show sucks ass, and the actors for both of them aren' that great. However, they were here since the very beginning and after rewatching season 1 and 2 recently I think it a real shame that they couldn't at least get some camera time for a half-decent sendoff to those characters. I mean Dexter is somewhat responsible for getting their mother (who's rarely mentioned) killed.No, instead they bring back some chick from season 3 I can barely remember in the penultimate episode of the series -_-;

In this way, after watching a horrendous show, I can enjoy Breaking bad even more. The feeling it's amazing, like eating after sex.
You either have really good food or really terrible sex.

This season has been utter garbage. I actually liked the first couple of episodes, mostly because they depicted Deb's downfall and the very severe consequences of her killing Laguerta. She was a very shaken up character and honestly it made a lot of sense. But the show made a giant 180 on that.
I mean, at first we have Deb, doing drugs, banging a criminal and being completely off the radar for like 2 months. Dexter kills her boyfriend right in front of her, and hell she even kills a guy herself. And bam, Vogel shows up and a couple of episodes later everything is forgotten, and another couple of episodes later Deb is helping out Hannah (whom she has always hated, quite hilarious). Character ruining 101. Oh and let's not mention that now Deb is flat out helping Dex kill people, 1 with the first guy who is pegged as the Brain Surgeon, and 2 with Saxon in the last episode. It's just way ridiculous.
There are just so many inconsistencies, I don't even know where to begin. The treadmill scene was way past cringeworthy. The kid actor is just awful. I know he's a kid and everything, but when you look at the whole bunch of incredibly talented kid actors GoT has to offer, you have to wonder where Showtime found this one. The list of empty characters is limitless: Batista, Masuka, Matthews (oh and whatever happened to that black detective who supposedly became Lieutenant? She was promoted only to completely vanish?) and even Quinn is worthless, the guy was stalking Dexter back in S5 and making his life a nightmare, hiring people to dig up dirt on him, slowly turning into another Doakes, but now he's all pals with him.
It's just.. painful. Dexter was an amazing show, especially in S1 and S2 (although the ending of S2 was a little weak). But the show does have a pattern of pretty big ups and downs (see S3, S5 and S7). But this is just way beyond that. They crapped on everything Dexter was, they're popping out incredibly predictable scenes, shitty story lines, it's worse than even what the writers of House came up with to end the show. Seriously, I saw the whole Saxon freeing himself thing coming as soon as he decided not to kill him. And the dialogue between Dexter and Saxon... What the fuck happened to the writers? I still occasionally go on YouTube to watch the scenes between Doakes and Dexter in S2, because the dialogue was just so damn good.
Anyway... I'll stop the butthurt rant here, but I could go on. It's just very annoying to see another excellent show turned to ruins in a single season (House, anyone?), although Dexter had it coming for a while.

Now that breaking bad is ending. I am planning to start watching Dexter as advised by my boss.
But I tried watching it before like 2 episodes and I am not impressed. Do I give him a chance? or can you suggest other series to watch? I am running out of shows to watch, breaking bad is ending, im about 5 episodes left from modern family. Walking dead starts a month from now and I have no ideas what to start watching...

Showtime was always a poor man's HBO. Their TV series ain't bad but not even close to HBO level. And when I said ain't bad I didn't have in mind the current Dexter season.
After the treadmill episode I am not going to watch Dexter again. Not anytime soon. I was thinking I would finish the season just to see what happens, the final season after all. But it's just too bad. Especially that Boardwalk Empire has started...
Still interested in how it ends, so feel free to spoil everything

Dexter is worth watching. S1, S2, S4 and even S6 are good, although it goes downhill bit by bit. If you haven't watched House, go for it. Game of Thrones is another must. It was mentioned in this thread, but Prison Break (S1) is quite amazing. S2 is also good, but don't even bother watching the rest.

- Batista figuring out Dexter - Matthews figuring out Dexter - Quinn figuring out Dexter - Lumen coming back - Anything involving Rita's kids - Deb torn between wanting to bone and kill Dexter - Yvonne going haywire - Mecha-Doakes
There's so many characters we care about already, so why did they even need to manufacture an entire host of new people we don't have any time to give a shit about?
Because the writer for the last season was some 12 years old kid who did it for $5 and a pizza. He never saw previous seasons but promised to, as soon as he's done with writing this one.

reading through the comments it is all negative and makes me not watch it. Me and my boss have nothing to talk about LOL
anyway, I watch house which kinda ended bad but it is cool.
watched prison break and the movie - finale good, movie so bad
big fan og GoT, who else is not, you cant miss it. It is like LoTR + SEX/nude/porn
can you guys justify watching dexter? any loyal believers?
also some other suggestions too, I am thinking lost or heroes but they seem cheesy to me.

also some other suggestions too,
Boardwalk empire. Series on the birth of what became known as Mafia in the United States, with focus on Atlantic City. Only semi-historical, but still very good.

The first two seasons about Dexter are all about the discovery of the character (a much, MUCH different character than the one in the last seasons) and his life. It has depth, good dialogue and a lot of purpose. The story of S1 is a little predictable I guess, but nothing too bad. I would recommend watching Dexter S1 & S2 simply for the character and the story, which are good. The dialogues are generally very interesting and the show is overall very well put together.

Well I'll assume you've already heard of such big ones as The Sopranos, The Wire, and Breaking Bad. So, a less popular gem that I don't see nearly enough would be:
The Shield: FX series about dirty cops in LA. It makes a very good impression in the first season (hell even the first episode), but it does have a series of repetitive moments mixed in as well. s4 I'd say was a bomb, however, you shouldn't lose heart as the one that follows, s5 was one of the best seasons of TV I've seen. The finale is great too, they knew how to end a show. Overall I give the show a 8/10
Sopranos and The Wire are 10s, Breaking Bad is a 9/10 for reference (could bump up to a 10 depending on the last 2 eps :p).

People like to jump on bandwagons a lot and saying something is bad or mediocre is cool nowadays.
Dexter season 1-4 is amazing, it blew me away. From season 5 onward it wasn't amazing anymore but still a nice waste of time. Only the last few episodes have been kind of bad to me, but I still watch the episodes when they come out with interest.

Was the realtor lady Miguel's wife, or is it someone else?

Dexter up to S4 is fine, then it starts to get meh. You can go up to S6 then just read spoilers of the last episodes of S7 and S8 and you won't have missed anything.

at this point only mecha-doakes can save the show!

Seems like I'm the odd one out but I actually liked S7 and thought S3/5 were bearable filler seasons, although S6 and even moreso S8 are absolute shit :/
Visited the dexter subreddit after this thread a few days ago btw, they had a thread stickied for Breaking Bad's new episode which was hilarious to me.

Kinda agre here. I thought S5 had some decent tension. S6 was shit and I wasn't planning on watching S7 untill I read what had happened in the first episode. Then I was hooked and thought it was a pretty good season overall. S8 started off interesting as well, but then it just kept getting worse and worse and has hit an unbelieveable new low bottom.
