Particularly when it got to the point where both of them started backseat moderating. I mostly meant the discussion shortly following the ban (discussing overall moderation, what to do with PX etc.) I agree that the original discussion was going to be shit regardless but the one following it was fairly mellow (it was constructive but IMO definitely was off topic to normal LoL talk). It just feels rather weak to open up both threads with the expectation that most off topic discussion will be discussed in this thread and then finding out that about 5 pages worth of it went on in the other thread (especially when you feel like I do in that this thread shouldn't exist in the first place). Well we can't move posts after the fact and Neo and I were't around right when the discussion happened. Well yes but a moderator was certainly around or they wouldn't have been banned in the first place. I'll stop now because it is a rather small point that I am probably overreacting to but again again it just seems kind of weak ruleskeeping. Heyoka is the one who stepped in and he's an admin on the site. Had I been around, I probably would have fired off bans as well. It went from banter and escalated to personal shittalking from both users.
As for other general users talking about the bans in LoL GD, it happens. The posts that lead up to the bans were in that thread and I eventually stepped in and the discussion ceased. I don't see what the problem is.
For the most part, most offtopic discussions should belong in this thread, sometimes people forget or get lazy. Depending on the severity or relevance, I'll step in and redirect discussion to the appropriate thread if need be.
Edit: this week alone, people have talked about health&fitness stuff and more pokemon and it's all been isolated in this thread, not in LoL GD. I think this thread is definitely serving its purpose.

Is MTG not insanely popular now? I haven't played in about a year but it was pretty big then.
edit: I looked up the last modern tournament in Vegas and the tournament capped the entries to 4500 players because they anticipated it was going to be giant. They met the 4500 player cap.

I think this thread is definitely serving its purpose. Well the unofficial thread was full of Pokemon, animes, games, food (a lot of food) and a bit of fitness too. However, in most of the cases (read: not food there, or fitness in this one) it didn't go as far as it went in the last GD, uh... tangents (damn English vocabulary failing me >.>), on food, housing, studies, or even the KS one a bit before. My guess would be that the way topics are addressed in both off-topic threads is also influenced by the discussion we all had about these discussions themselves right after you announced you'd eventually make a separate thread.

I need to start working out. I get bored from exercise too easily which is why I never do it. Are there any fun, exciting and easy to get started programs out there? Is Insanity any good? One reason why I'm averse to criticize other people's fitness programs is because they might find it fun even if it's "suboptimal." So... try everything. Go hiking, try weightlifting, join crossfit, pick up a martial art, learn swimming, pick up go-karting, try any of the DVD programs, look at hip-hop dancing, go rock climbing... Is go-karting a valid form of training? :o I think it is, at least, depending on the go-kart.
The electric ones at K1 Speed, at first, had me gasping for breath and feeling tired when I first tried it. I imagine that gas/diesel ones are probably more strenuous, and I think it's because of all the g-forces when steering that your body has to absorb. And possibly the lack of power steering contributes to more physical stress.

A couple MtG drafts with friends are fairly cheap and lots of fun. Just don't do it too often. Money saved.

Unfortunately I don't really have a lot of friends down here at school that share my nerdier passions. There is one comic store that does Friday Night Magic (and I think drafts) but don't think I could get anyway to go with me.

To be fair, there are a lot of bad players on Pokemon Showdown. But still, good job on getting off to a great start!

Magic is like crack, at first you start with a few innocent drafts. Before you know it you'll be want to get a playset of force of wills and Jace the Mind Sculptor.

Anyone think some of the recent sci fi blockbusters have been pretty good? I was relatively pleased by the Tom cruise movie oblivion, I thought it had a good premise and some really fantastic shots. Saw the new Matt Damon flick Elysium last night and again, despite some small disappointments I was thoroughly entertained. Nj Hollywood

Anyone know a lot about e-readers? Also, is staring at a tablet LCD screen for hours any worse than doing the same for a laptop screen or monitor?
|
LCD is LCD, both devices will cause eye strain after long focused use. You want to get a e-reader with e-ink like the Kindle, Nook or Kobo. They're all about the same. Kindle doesn't like epub format, but has a bigger bookstore.
|
I just spent an 8 hour bus ride reading off my laptop, but I don't feel bad apart from a slightly cramped neck and other things associated more with the bus ride than reading. I just use epubs and Adobe Digital Editions with big font.
Its about the same as spending 8 hours on your laptop any other way. e-reader more eye friendly though, and I'm a real flipping pages book guy at heart too. IMHO the biggest benefit of an e-reader is the battery life.
|
but then e-ink devices can't display color or pdfs very well right? I've read that you should wait till the holiday season to see what new gadgets are coming out. The kindle paperwhite looks pretty good but I'm still undecided between tablet or ereader.
