To be fair, there are a lot of bad players on Pokemon Showdown. But still, good job on getting off to a great start!

you dont get an ereader to look at color photos... they're like strictly reading devices. but unfortunately ereaders have terrible pdf support.

I chose a Kindle over a tablet because I only wanted something portable to read on. e-ink is much better on the eyes and the 2 month battery life is great if I'm taking it somewhere on vacation.

100% of the books I've read on Kindle are books I've purchased off the Kindle store, so I know nothing about converting PDFs or any other e-reader format.

I have a Nexus 4 smartphone and a powerful desktop computer, and I have a Macbook Air that I use if I travel, so technology-wise I had no need for a tablet and went with an e-reader.

But when you're in your 20s and your eyes aren't gonna get any worse, how much difference does it make reading e-ink vs. LCD?

I find I can read for quite a lot longer with e-ink than with LCD until my eyes get sore. So for long reading sessions e-ink > lcd. When you reading books all you want are long sessions so it makes sense.

I'm 29 and for the last two years my eyes were getting worse, more than in my younger 20s. But it's my far-sight, not my near-sight, that's been getting worse.

Looking at e-ink is much more comfortable than reading an LCD screen, mostly because the LCD screen feels like your eyes are being saturated with light like when you use your computer, TV, etc.

Well that implies your eyes aren't going to get any worse, but there's still a notable amount of eye strain on lcd vs e-ink.
If you strictly plan on reading books, e-ink is the way to go, nothing quite like it.

Seeing all these streamers playing hearthstone makes me soooooo mad jelly.

Hearthstone is to MtG as LoL is to Dota

It's funny that you say that because I've always thought that WotC shot themselves in the foot by missing the boat on the F2P craze.

F2P MtG would have had the potential to become insanely popular.

yeah, although, to be fair, MTGO is an incredible cash farm. The margins are absolutely disgusting for wizards. When randy buehler left the company he indicated in a blog post that MTGO was only a few steps below names like civilization and simcity in terms of being the most profitable brand in strategy computer games. That's crazy, you can see why they wouldn't have much of an incentive to innovate with a river of cash like pouring into their vaults every day.

Additionally, as a company they're just really bad at online products. They take a long time to improve releases and they're always kind of feature poor and disorganized.

is it is easy to pirate with e-readers? (no guides please). Or if not pirate, buy from third party stores? I can't really see myself spending cash to buy something that I have to buy only proprietary books for.

yes, it's very easy to pirate for well known books, exponentially harder the more obscure you get.

Meh, xpecial maybe. Dyrus still has a lot of non-game issues that he needs to work out to make his in game more solid.

And yeah magic online has never been beginner ing friendly and until duels of the planeswalkers they never really thought about software to get people into magic (aside from those silly starter pack CDs)

couldn't they just import the duels of the planewalker engine into magic online? They don't need to mess around with the database, and the card interaction logic is already there. I wonder how hard it is for them to hire a 3 or 4 UI experts to "reskin" everything.

The conversation on Reddit about TSM makes me want to laugh out loud and throw up at the same time.

God how can that many people feel that self-entitled x.x

It's a very limited engine in terms of full magic interactions and the way it handles phases is really subpar for online play. The hard interaction logic of all the more complicated stuff would be pretty hard to replicate correctly. Not only that, all the glitter and flash does get in the way of just clicking all the cards as fast as possible

After watching several vids of hearthstone from various people.....

I want. Looks like so much fun, very simple mechanics, but probably a lot of depth and strategy to the game as it goes through beta.
