Hello Core Enthusiasts!
I keep hammering away at the core with better and better results each day. I've finally gotten to the point where I've surpassed my old apm. I was averaging 126 last season and my last few games have averaged over 140 using TheCore. And a lot of my old APM was just spam, everything on TheCore is a meaningful action. Some day, I'd like to analyze the difference between the actions in my old hotkey layout and TheCore.
I still do some Katas but now I'm sticking to the more advanced ones. Also real games give me chances to train things like chronoing multiple nexuses so I'm looking to fit more practice in whereever I can.
However I'm still not at my old level yet. Enough errors creep into my play as I learn so I just don't feel ready for ladder. I'm thinking about doing unranked to see how I'd fare.
One training tip I've found helpful is to do "Gasnia's Micro Trainer". It has 10 common scenarios for each race, It gives you time to hokey before each "round". It is a fun way to stress your micro and really get used to making the split second decisions with hotkeys.
Thanks for reading!

Ladder Anxiety Chronicles, day 8.

You've been a member of this website since 2010. Does that mean that you've strictly avoided ladder play for over two years?
Would be interesting to see someone who's my opposite: I played ladder exclusively after WoL launch and played the campaign for the first time in January of this year.

I get the impression that he's avoiding ladder because of a big switch in hotkeys that would cause him to play much worse until he gets used to it.

apm increase doesn't mean anything. If you are getting better at hotkeys etc, then you should know it yourself. You can be just hitting more keys because you aren't used to the new keys, I know when I played Terran for the first time I had over 300 apm because I am not used to the hotkeys and units. Eventually it went down once I get a hang of it and goes up once I play better and smoother. Is your mechanics really getting better?

Wow in only 8 days? That is really amazing.
I couldn't good control of the keys for a few weeks until I eventually stopped playing sc2. But 8 days is pretty good.

This is so wrong. For Terran, apm means a lot. A higher apm just indicates a higher frequency of your attention cycle. As a high masters terran myself i found myself faling to keep up with everything and therefor needed to improve the speed of my cycle. I played the multitask map straight for a week and my apm went from ~100 to ~220 in just a week.
Now how do you know this isnt just wasteful apm? Ofcourse a big part of this apm is useless, but this is always the case. The problem with macro is that you CONSTANTLY have to keep checking your production, which makes a big part of your apm consist of just checking your production. By improving your apm you decrease the time it takes to do something, so you can do something else. The fact that you manage to spam harder while actually knowing what you are spamming (not just randomly spamming) is what makes it useful. Its not about how hard you can spam physically (everybody can do that) its about knowing what to do.

Nice work OP as long as the extra APM isn't spam

Thanks for the replies. People make interesting assumptions.
The most interesting thing is now I'm seeing how much more I could be doing if my mechanics were not holding me back. My higher APM feels slower because I can see how I could be doing all of these actions more efficiently as I learn TheCore.
Thanks fore the feedback everyone!

I am saying a higher apm does not mean your mechanics is getting better. what you are saying is basically what I am saying, you can't take apm as a measurement of mechanics, my apm is ~300 for zerg and I am at diamond only, I even have a 400 apm zerg at bronze who loves to spam a move you won't know you are improving mechanics solely by reading the apm meter

Basically there is a correlation between apm and mechanics but good mechanics != high apm and vice versa, you can however say that an increase in his apm is suggestive of an improvement of mechanics however it doesn't mean he has improved.
Edit: Wording changed meaning.
