So for my second fortress I managed to not have everyone die from thirst dureing the first winter. Every thing went fine and all until some elves just came and killed all my dwarves. I didnt have my military set up already, and I forgot to link my drawbridge to the lever. Maybe chopping down every single tree on a 30squares radius around my fortress was a bad idea :<
Also at one point I had a possessed dwarf, but he did not claim any workshop/request materials, he just ran around in the fortress until he went amok and I had to put him down. Is this normal? Or how can I see what he wants?
Looking forward to the next fortress, now that i'm starting to get used to the basics i'll have to get my military up quicker :D

Take a look at his professions and see which ones aren't provided for.

Oh ok, I didnt know that possessed/fey mood dwarves could only claim stuff relevant to their skills I guess it makes sense now.

This sounds really interesting, gotta check this out.

Before CS:GO came out I played this game for like 5 days straight.. All my free time and more went to playing my fortress. DF is frighteningly addicting.

Been lurking this for a while now, and finally decided I am going to take the plunge and start learning it. "Boatmurdered" has to be one of the coolest AAR's I've ever seen lol.
The real reason I wanted to post, however, is I was wondering what you guys think about the upcoming Paradox title "Game of Dwarves"? I imagine it will be much more accessible, but also not as deep as DF. Not even really sure how similar it will be to DF?

Not even really sure how similar it will be to DF? i dont think it will be nearly as complex as dwarf fortress. the game will probably have hunger, thirst, hitpoint and stuff but "admiring a fine made door recently", "engrossed by miasma recently" probably wont be there

Also you can't kill babies. Is that a good thing?

Been on a DF tear lately. I'm a noob though.
Just found a forgotten beast and I'm pretty sure that a military and some weapons, armor and training would have been nice.

Yesterday I started Dwarf Fortress up for the first time in 6-7 months, shouldn't have done that. Played for 11 hours straight :D
Forgotten how addictive it can be

Forgotten how addictive it can be It certainly can. If only our TL succession forts didn't die out.

Waiting in breathless anticipation for the next release.
... which will probably be a while, considering the pretty huge things he's implementing currently. Explorable non-dwarven / human sites, tracking, moving armies and wildlife, nonlethal combat and stealth mechanics.

:O
Adding that to Dwarf Fortress? Sounds fun
|
so, anyone tried this Game of Dwarves? seems real fun

Just got into it. Sleep lost. Fun acquired.

i am trying the one pick challenge(some guy made a video series about it) basically you embark on a zone with no trees(freezing and terrifying areas to make it harder) with only a pick.(no food, drinks, wood or anything) its so !fun! on terrifying zones.
