I'm not the biggest EG fan, but this is one of the things that they have done that i fully agree with. + Show Spoiler + Assuming of course that it was just a joke and not a statement of fact, in which case they did not go anywhere near far enough in punishing him.
Honestly this was worse than what orb did, but stephano is hugely popularr, so they will be very careful of how they tread here, as kicking stephano from the team, not matter how justified in their and their sponsors eyes, is going to generate massive backlash. That being said, good on you EG.

If you looked at the first screenshot, BlinG laughs a good bit. He only looks perturbed when he realises that the conversation was broadcast. Or when he realized Stephano may actually have been serious. I still don't see why people are writing it off as a joke, I don't get that vibe at all. I mean, I sure hope he was joking, but I really don't see how that could be taken as an attempt at a joke at all. Its not a good joke, I agree with that. But it certainly fits a particular type of joke that young males are fond of. It's a definitive example of trolling.
Shocking statement -> people don't take it seriously -> continue the act -> audience shocked -> got ya! Only the fact that it wasn't private kinda broke that down.
If you genuinely haven't come across examples of this type of humour ("humour") it would certainly seem pretty suspect, but its pretty common.

Nony insulting the CES of ESV TV, you tell me it is like if a football player insulted the boss of UEFA lol Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Nony graduate from Duke? Lol, "lack largely of any education," my ass. He's probably better educated than 90% of TL. Bad educated doesn´t refer just to have titles but to have good manners, that´s what i meant. Call bitch to the ceo of a big korean tournament through twitter shows very bad manners Manners, just like morality are subjective and personal. You can not force your personal standards on someone else. Stephen Fry, one of the best educated and most intelligent people on television uses foul language all the time about all kinds of people and is a great proponent of the right to say what you want in any manner (oh the irony) you choose. SC players are actually very well educated in general, Nony is a very polite guy for the most part. Unlike say NFL players, most of whom wouldn't have got in to college if not for a scholarship to play football. Please, please, please stop thinking that your standards are better than anyone elses. Ok, right you can call bitch whoever you want whenever you like, if you think those are manners then you don´t think rationally at all man. Yes you can. You can call anyone a bitch because bitch is just a word. It means female dog, how offensive! Manners are just social niceties, they mean nothing. Just like when you get up from the table while other people are still eating, I get told off by my gf for that all the time and I always reply the same "Then eat faster". Its not up to her what I as an ADULT choose to do. If I call you a bitch, you can be offended by all means. It was directed at you. Everyone else on the planet has no right to be offended by it however because it wasn't directed at them. When you speak in anger or passion and you are an adult you have a plethora of fantastic swear words available to you and you should feel free to use them, to tell me that I can't use those words because they offend your sense of manners is far more rude. How in the world is it ruder for someone else to get offended by your manners? It's like if you tried to piss on A's shoes but your splatter hits B as well. Hell, yes, B can be offended even if you didn't mean to piss on him. You are talking about a physical act not words. Words (in general) can not harm anyone. I have the right to do and say anything I wish unless what I do or say infringes on someone else's right to do the same. Pissing on someone's shoes would physically damage their shoes, saying i was going to piss on them would do nothing. Being offended about something said to someone else is far more rude than expressing yourself in anger. Calling you a bitch once is completely acceptable. Calling you it 20 times a day, every day is not, it is abuse. There is a huge difference. Seriously, you can PM me can call me every name under the sun, I will not get offended because they are just words and besides I can swear in 5 different languages, I'm pretty sure I have been called it all before ;p You are operating under the assumption that words cannot hurt people. But words have and do continue to hurt people every day. (See: every slur under the sun.)
Not everyone is you, and not everyone has lived your life, and not everyone has had the luxury to develop a "thick skin." There are people out there (esp. victims of bullying) who get triggered by sights, smells, and yes, sounds, including -- would you know? -- words. That is an uncontrollable, involuntary reaction, and people have every right to confront you for that, whether it's because they themselves are triggered by it, or because they know someone else who gets triggered by it, or simply because they know it encourages bullying. Your intention essentially means nothing once the harm is done.
Your argument boils down to the following: "I don't get offended if someone insults me. Therefore, nobody else should! Furthermore, my right to free speech & the inconvenience of having to choose a different word or having to say nothing at all >>> the pain and/or significant discomfort of others."

What I think is rally stupid is the community's response to a simple comment. In reality, nothing happened. Words were said. It may have been a joke, it may have been misinterpreted. Even if something bad happened, there is no confirmation past a rumor.
Why hundreds of people would send emails to sponsors over this just blows my mind? What do they think that they are doing great justice of something? This reaction to simple things like this is an aweful characteristic of this society.
What are the really doing? its fucking simple.
Sponsors read these emails and the big fucking message they get is "take your money out of esports. If you sponsor a team you risk ruining your entire companies name, by sponsoring one dumb punk who was making jokes on the internet."
Everytime they read these emails, they get closer and closer to the idea of sponsoring these teams, and putting their money is a bad investment, and can potentially harm them a lot more than benefit them. soon sponsors will realize sponsoring a team with this community is not worth the risk, and will stop sponsoring these teams.
And i dont blame em. After i got flooded with emails, I would pull sponsorship immediately, or at least gaurentee not to renew it depending on the contract. not worth the risk.
This just in, for all the "This is what esports needs... were still where we are because we dont act professional!" you are fucking insane and ignorant. If your scene is boring and uninteresting, noone will watch. The problem already with SC2 is the majority cant relate because they dont play. And if you make all players afraid to be original or entertaining, then people who at least care about people, will not have any interest in it either.
Maybe instead of focusing on being robots, we should focus on making the game better, and making our scene more inviting, more exciting, and something appealing to the masses. Cause you are working backwards.

You know what's ironic about this situation? Most of the community, including me, would have never even heard about these comments if EG didn't take action. I had no idea it occurred but thanks to EG and the almighty internet police overreacting I know now. It's not even a big deal. IT'S A JOKE. Why can't people joke anymore? Plus, don't even act like none of you have ever joked about something taboo. We're human, it happens. Also, they're professional VIDEO GAMERS. Video games are supposed to be fun. All you internet knights need to get over yourselves and have some fun for once.

Unfortunately people (apparently the subreddit called /srs/) contacted the sponsors and forced EG to take action.

At least one person (BlinG, who actually knows Stephano) believed it was a joke. This negates the "I don't find it funny, therefore he must have been serious" argument.
