Hi there folk!
After the smashing success that was episode 4 I’m back with episode 5. This time the games will be more diverse. I have a TCG in Tyrant, a facebook-ish styled mmorpg in Dawn of the Dragons, a “shoot everything while not dying” in Endless War 5 and a yet another yeti sports wannabe in Burrito Bison Revenge.
I’m also happy to announce that I have started working on my first impossible achievement. Not that this one in particular takes long to achieve but I’ll get back to that in the end (and a challenge for you guys as well! )
Tyrant
Achievements:
- Ashrock and Roll Badge (Complete every Ashrock mission – Easy 5 points, 465.000 before me)
- Fully Decked Badge (Collect 52 unique cards - Medium 15 points, 173.000 before me)
- Get Your Kicks on Mission 66 Badge (Complete the Nexus campaign, through mission 66 – Hard 30 points, 47.000 before me)
- Winning with Style Badge (Complete any 50 in-game achievements – Hard 30 points, 40.000 before me)
I’ve played a few TCG during my time. I’ve played Magic the gathering a lot when I was younger. I’ve played a bit of Pokémon the TCG. I’ve played Elements (an Online TCG which btw is also on Kongregate). Tyrant is just so different from those other TCG in a way that I find very refreshing. Since you have to attack each turn you'll never end up in a stalemate. Doesn't mean it can't end in a draw but the action is never slow.
Winning? Of course…
Note: I wanted to make a quick write up of the rules thinking they were quite easy. I still think the rules are simple I just suck at explaining so I gave up. Just assume the game is simple… really… It is!
This game was just really fun and a constant challenge. You are introduced slowly to the many abilities in the game while the difficulty slowly increases. The missions you need to complete during the story gets more and more varied and you have to tweak your deck all the time to have the best chance to win. At the same time you have the pvp and faction wars (factions are guilds or clans) where you need both a good defensive and offensive deck. When beating missions you earn gold and experience. Using the gold you buy booster packs or enter tournaments.
So many cards! I had 7-8 pages worth of cards and I haven’t even played that long.
The gameplay is action packed and fast paced. With only 8 cards (that can all die) the matches are over fast so you can continue to the next match. The decks are varied and new cards are introduced from time to time so the meta game never stalls (A new pack was just released this week).
The PvP system works really well with multiple facets. You have the Arena where it is real time 1on1 action. The more you win, the more arena points you get. Your arena rank unlocks new cards which are bought with gold.
Then there are tournaments which consist of two types: Sealed or Open. The Open is where everyone bring whatever deck that have and duke it out to win rare cards and gold or war bonds (the in game real money currency). This would be insanely hard for a newer player when you don’t have an insane pvp deck which is why the sealed tournaments are so good. You get 4 booster packs worth of cards and have to make your best deck out of that. That means everyone have equal chance to get a beastly deck or a shitty deck. You buy-in to tournaments with gold to win gold or with war bonds to win war bonds.
Then there faction wars, which just players from each faction duking it out. Getting point for your faction gives you loyalty which again unlocks more cards based on the faction’s level and your loyalty.
Regarding the achievements, they weren’t that hard. Just took a lot of time due to the energy constraint in such a multiplayer game. Getting the 50 in-game achievement was cool since they are were different and sometimes counter intuitive to normal play.
All in all this is a well-rounded TCG. There is a good single player part with a quite diverse multiplayer part. There are a LOT of cards and lots of abilities that mix and match. While some booster packs can only be bought with war bonds most cards are accessible to all. If you like TCG’s check this out!
Dawn of the Dragons
Achievements:
- Class Act Badge (Reach level 6 and choose your class – Easy 5 points, 118.000 before me)
- Mazal Who? Badge (Reach level 30 - Medium 15 points, 30.000 before me)
Ever played any “multiplayer” game on facebook? Like Mafia? This is the same just with worse graphics. It’s a mmorpg (that genre is getting butchered online these days btw). Many of the same elements are present as they were in Dream Land (see episode 3) with a set amount of energy per hour, with 3 kinds of energy for quests, raids and guild raids. But where Dream World let you have some sort of control over the fighting with different abilities you could use doing fight, DotD just let you attack for a set amount of energy and then you win. Sometimes you meet a monster but you can only press attack until the monster is dead. Then repeat until you have no more energy or have completed the area to move on to the next.
Please make it stop…
The PvP aspect is much the same. You attack someone and the game tells you if you won or not. I lost to players the same level with no gear on and won over player who clearly had better gear then me. It made no sense. Another thing that made no sense was that there were 3 kinds of PvP all of which was kind of the same but different. Only small light in this devastating darkness that is Dawn of the Dragons is that the achievements were rather easy to get
Endless War 5
Achievements:
- Tanks for All the Squish Badge (Destroy 100 infantry units – Easy 5 points, 60.000 before me)
- Ranked and Filed Badge (Reach the rank of gunnery sergeant - Medium 15 points, 45.000 before me)
- War: Ended Badge (Complete all 19 missions – Medium 15 points, 15.000 before me)
RELOAD DAMMIT! RELOAD!
Burrito Bison Revenge
Achievements:
- The Way the Cookie Crumbles Badge (Defeat Chocolate Chuck by scoring perfect launches – Easy 5 points, 325.000 before me)
- Mission of Mayhem Badge (Complete any 40 in-game missions - Medium 15 points, 209.000 before me)
- Robbing the Robbers Badge (Get your wallet back – Medium 15 points, 195.000 before me)
- Buffalo Wings Midnight Snack Badge (Travel 25,000 meters in survival mode – Hard 30 points, 80.000 before me)
Anyway you smash cute little gummy bears to get gold for upgrades and unlocking different kind of gummy bears. I especially like the cruiser bears since they are so bad ass! All the gummy bears had different abilities keeping you activated while you traveled thousands of meters. The cruiser bear had you spam clicking to get more speed, the propeller hat bears made you time your clicks to gain speed and height, the rocket rider bears made you hold the mouse until the perfect timing, etc.
Try the new gummy bears, now with extra bounce!
I took quite a while to get the last achievement but it is probably easy. I had a lot of upgrades still available when I got it so if you get every upgrade it should be doable for everyone. The game is rather addictive and pretty fun. But as all these games goes it got rather repetative in the end.
That’s the games for this episode. As I wrote in the beginning I have started on an impossible achievement. It is the game Dolphin Olympics 2 where you need to get very high up in order to get the achievement and it have to be done within 2 minutes. So the challenge for you guys is to try and get it the impossible achievement yourself. It only takes 2 minutes of perfection
I won’t work on this all the time since my wrists start hurting after 30-40 min but I hope to have it soon… Just a little higher!
Leave a comment, rate or call me stupid (in a nice way!) Oh, and post if you complete the challenge
