Hello TL! (and Kongregate!)
More badges under my belt and more games played. Progress so far is good. Not fast but steady. I’ve cross posted this over at Kongregates forum which started a whole discussion about how my mission is impossible due to the fact that you can’t get all badges since some games are broken or not supported anymore. It will not stop me however! =)
This week I got something special for you guys! A series of games all linking together! It’s “The Several Journeys of Reemus”. There are 5 games so far in the series all of which are point and clicks. I actually did chapter 3 first but thought it would be cool to do them in order – so I did =)
The Several Journeys of Reemus: Prologue “Lair of the Ant Queen”
Achievements:
- Reckless Ant Food Badge (Use brawn to defeat the ant queen – Medium 15 points, 118.000 before me)
- Legendary Ant Poisoner Badge (Use brains to defeat the ant queen - Medium 15 points, 117.000 before me)
And so the story begins…
So the game(s) is about Fredericus brother Reemus the exterminator and his quest for fame. He has a sidekick, Liam the purple bear. The game starts off with Liam trying to write a ballad about Reemus when they encounter an innkeeper. The innkeeper has an ant problem. Big ass ants…
Follow that cake!
So in hopes of it ending up with an epic ballad and story our two heroes venture into the anthill to kill the queen. On their way through the anthill they stumble upon weird stuff. Stuff like a weather machine (great for freezing poles which tongues can get stuck on), fire beetles, a penis looking cannon plant, a giant green shrieking bat and of course the ant queen. In the end Reemus find a way to kill the queen (actually two – see the badges) and everyone is happy! Well, in one of the endings Reemus started a holy ant war… But shit happens…
The Several Journeys of Reemus: Chapter 1
Achievements:
- Cheesy Escape Badge (Escape via mouse – Medium 15 points, 160.000 before me)
- Flying First Class Badge (Escape via bird - Medium 15 points, 125.000 before me)
Confidence is a good thing, right?
After being chased by a wolf through the forest, Reemus and Liam arrived at the castle. When ringing the bell (yes a bell at the castle door – problem? ) no one answers. So Reemus sends Liam through the nearby well so he can open the door from the inside.
After getting the door open the wolf appear again and chase them inside the castle walls. After a bit of fiddlery involving a chicken, a dead chicken and some laundry they shake the wolf and get inside the castle. Inside the find the reason why the castle is empty
A wild hobo wizard appears…
This wizard tells them that the country have been invaded by death slugs. They eat everything (the wolf died ) and the king wants Reemus the famous exterminators help to get rid of them. The wizard then flies of on his flying cake leaving Reemus and Liam to find a way out on their own. In the end they escape on a giant flying rat…
It’s like my grandmother always said: “Look out for those flying cats!” And I thought she was crazy…
The Several Journeys of Reemus: Chapter 2
Achievements:
- Gopher Chef Badge (Achieve the double hero ending – Medium 15 points, 133.000 before me)
- Complete Cowardice Badge (Achieve the double coward ending - Medium 15 points, 125.000 before me)
- One-Eyed Snake Surprise Badge (Achieve the lucky coward ending – Medium 15 points, 140.000 before me)
You think they get out of this one?
After cheating death and getting themselves free from the Gygax, Reemus and Liam seek out the All-Knowing Parasite in order to figure out what is going on with the death slugs and the reappearance of the Gygax. Only one problem, the parasite lives on the tail of the Devouring Worm. So before they can go to the parasite they need a way to deal with the Devouring Worm. The solution being Sugar Bee Honey which is so sweet it induces a temporary diabetic coma.
The sugar bees live in the center of the Flesh-Eating Forest – of course. So after surviving the journey through the forest and tricking the bees to giving them some sugar honey, Liam finds himself face to face with the Devouring Worm. With the honey in hand it is no problem to get past the worm and Liam is bestowed with the wisdom of the parasite.
Not a bad place to live… for a parasite…
The Several Journeys of Reemus: Chapter 3
Achievements:
- Path of Aggression Badge (Complete Reemus's path of choice– Medium 15 points, 80.000 before me)
- Path of Least Resistance Badge (Complete Liam's preferred path - Medium 15 points, 96.000 before me
Always the optimist!
Before our heroes embark on this magnificent quest they need to claim it. Other heroes might take the quest before them! They decide to head towards the kingdom of Danricus and talk to the king.
First they need to get out of the forest. On their way out they meet a trapped cockroach that can show them a path out of the forest. After releasing the cockroach he shows them a secret door. To get through Liam have to solve a puzzle. Inside is a cave is a big monster that our heroes sneak by.
Getting out of the cave Reemus and Liam reach the beach. They trick a royal postman to give them a ride to the kingdom of Danricus. On the trip there the postman gets eating by a Death Slug and Reemus and Liam hurry onward alone toward Danricus to lay claim to their quest…
A Death Slug after eating a royal postman
The Several Journeys of Reemus: Chapter 4 “Beastly Blackhole of Bureaucracy”
Achievements:
- Heroes on Duty Badge (Complete your adventure – Medium 15 points, 50.000 before me)
- Master of Mighty Mind Magic Badge (Complete all 3 endings - Medium 15 points, 41.000 before me
Reemus and Liam hit up the Department of Heroic Quests to get the claim over with.
We’re all been there…
They get told by the fine lady that there is an on-line system (literally). It’s a do-it-yourself system that is much faster. To submit via the on-line system you need 3 heroic references and a danger sample from the quest. So our heroes set out to get the references and the sample.
On the way to getting 3 references our heroes managed to kill a hornet nest with poisonous water, help a tonic salesman get rid his neighbor salesman’s body-lice so he can sell more tonics and help a merchant with popsicles remove a giant goliath beetle from a bridge so he could pass.
To get a danger sample they trap a Death Slug using a sheep as bait. Easy peasy! =) All that was left was to submit the paperwork using the on-line method.
Technology is not always better!
Reemus decide that Liam should walk over the line to deliver the submission in person. So Reemus and Liam head to circus only to find out the clown have been kidnapped by the potatomen. The potatomen are entertainment craving monsters that live under ground. So Reemus and Liam dress up as clowns, get kidnapped and save Klaus the clown who, out of gratitude, teaches Liam to rope walk.
It still takes 48 hours to get the quest claim approved so Reemus decide that they need to slow down the ship with the invading Gygax and Death Slugs. With the help from a few tonics from the tonic salesman, some stingers from the hornets, the goliath beetle and a strong arm from Reemus they sink the ship with the invading force. They have been slowed down but they will return but when they do Reemus and Liam will be the official heroes on duty to take care of it!
All the games are short and fun. They present some easy puzzles and some that took me quite a while to figure out (I even looked at a walkthrough once or twice ). While the first game was simple in the mechanics and somewhat buggy the series evolved. Each game gave a better playing experience and more functions such as “reset zone”, play as both characters and work together, items etc.
The story was, although quite farfetched, really well composed in my opinion. The jokes worked for me making this an enjoyable experience.
That’s it for this episode. Next episode will be more diverse, I promise.
