Destiny's case was proper.
In the first two, the team was not contacted. In the third, it was. If a team chooses not to listen to the fans, then they can go to the sponsors instead. This was not a case of immediate contact with the sponsors, Quantic chose to ignore the complaints about Destiny's behaviour, and thus, their sponsors got involved.
A lot of people keep saying that quantic did nothing, the whole ordeal happened over the course of 3 days max. And you can bet people didnt wait to e-mail sponsors in the first place. I feel like if you really feel the need to pitchfork you should at least give the team a week or even 5 days. The team cant instantly fire someone they have to decide if it is justified or not.
we should have an e-sports inquisition. then when a nerd gets thrown in front of judge artosis and found guilty, king tasteless will appear on the big screen and give them the worst possible sentence: "take away their ladder points and bring them to me". khaldor should be the executioner... epiiiiic

Team"We are looking into this claims"
Doesn't seems it takes a week to do this.
Especially when this is a pattern of behavior, and one that started BEFORE he even joined the team. They can't claim ignorance on this one.

Stop with the strawman arguments. Not all people who complain do it to "feel important". And Lol Whistle blowers? Really?
All I see you is using strawman arguments.
Then why even go to the sponsor? Why not do as I suggested? Why defend your "right" to go to the sponsor?
Because going to the sponsor is the only real way we have to really pressure a team over an issue?
So the threat to report them to a sponsor wouldn't work? How so? They obviously know you are serious.
Fact is, if it is solved internally after your initial threat, there is no major backlash and you dont feel the importance that you feel now. All eyes are on you and your ilk because you had a hand in the current incident. You now feel important.
If you send a quiet e-mail to quantic about Destiny and he is barred from the next event and doesnt stream for a month... people just assume he went MIA. You can't come to the forums and announce
"IT WAS ME MUAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH I SHUT DOWN THAT IGNORANT PRICK I DID IT IT WAS MEEEEEEEEE"
your whole argument is wrong because you believe people do this to feel they are important.
please try again
Then at least try to answer the simple question I have asked multiple times with no valid answer.
Why not report it to the team with your threats and demand a response? Why go directly to the sponsors?
And for the one who said "How do you know that we didn't go to the team first?" Are you blind? The proof is everywhere. eG was BLINDSIDED by this and that is fact. The quantic manager himself has posted in this thread stating they should have came to him first and not gone to the sponsors. Another situation proving they went around the team directly toward the sponsor.
Because sponsors are the ones that are directly paying them. Also, this helps to make sure teams be more careful in the future when picking players; shouldn't simply pick players just because they are popular, as some of the popularity could of came from being infamous.
Either way, the people had every rights to do so.
So it boils down to the fact that you didn't want such a person employed. You wanted his career ended because he is such a racist piece of shit? You wanted to teach their team a lesson by putting the entire team at risk for one persons mistake? "They lose their livelihood if they dont comply, THAT oughta teach them!!!"
Makes sense
you may find it hard to believe. But people lose jobs over matter such as this in real life.
Not by people who is set on destroying someone's career but because such behaviour is just unaccepted in real life.
Real life is all about whether or not you like someone, and if you dont, take away their livelihood and the livelihood everyone related to them?
WTF is this? An extremist mob family?
Real life is about learning to live in society and knowing that there are some behaviors that are not acceptable atm. And again I ask who else got fired except the ones involved?

Yes, you are correct. So what's the problem?
The problem is that you're killing e-sports. If you don't have a problem with that, there's nothing to discuss other than that you're a piece of shit and nobody wants you in our community.
(apologies if stated already, but didn't go through all 16 pages)
At some point, the community needs to decide what eSports is and what it will be. There are conversations about it going "mainstream", to tv, maybe what BW was in Korea. I don't see this as a likely scenario (I'm not sure that audience outside of our current group will be interested, the game is probably too complex) But if that is where the community wants to see Sc2 go, then we do need more professionalism from players. It's fine to add a bit of trash talk here and there for entertainment purposes. It needs to be more vanilla (not just in terms of racist language, but also cursing). The mainstream sponsors will require a degree of conduct from their players. Players need more maturity, they need to understand what is acceptable behavior and what is not (teams need to get them there)
And the community will need to hold their own to a greater standard. The issue with emailing sponsors is how the sponsors will look at the entire scene. I like activism, this community should hold its own to greater standards. But there needs to be recognition that actions have consequences. In recent months, we've seen two examples of these witch-hunts involving outside organizations. If companies become wary about being involved, that's the end of any hope of Sc2 going mainstream. We need to adopt the mentality of being the greatest ambassadors of eSports to the outside world while being critical while inside.
And finally, community members need more maturity as well. This was a great thread. It offers great opportunities for discussion. Instead, half the posts here are people adding nothing to the conversation, people with egotistical attitudes, people arguing over silly points with one another. None of this helps to build a stronger community. Perhaps it's just time, but everyone in eSports needs to grow up. I'm just not sure they will.

E-Sports can't persist if every time someone makes a racist/homophobic/sexist comment, somebody calls up the sponsors. If you can't understand that, you've got a severe mental handicap.

I think its much more grown up for the community to speak up and talk about stuff they don't like than "keeping things internal".

Where does it say that everyone is entitled to put all their effort into growing e-sport? Sure some of us do it out of our love for the game, and that is GREAT. But none of us are getting paid for doing so or anything (hell some of us are paying for these services), we are not ENTITLED to do anything to make it grow. You have to realize this is an entertainment industry first and foremost, and there are bound to be people that are simply watching this for their own entertainment. And how exactly are they a piece of shit human being for doing what this market is intended to do?
Secondly, if it's killing e-sport, then it is ultimately these players using racial slurs that are killing e-sport. Your argument is like saying if Kobe Bryant caught being racist in public and someone complained to the board of director of NBA and got him suspended, it is the complainers fault and they're killing the basketball scene? That logic makes no sense.
Here's a clip on " mob mentality " from Darren Brown. I think this clip is very fitting to this subject and people should watch it to gain insight into the psychology which drives these witch hunts.
The entire episode is before this, but this is the very end of the experiment and the most meaningful to this subject:

esports is killed on a daily basis, and somehow manages to revive itself. If you think esports can't persist without racist/homophobic/sexist language, I feel really bad for you.
E-Sports can't persist if every time someone makes a racist/homophobic/sexist comment, somebody calls up the sponsors. If you can't understand that, you've got a severe mental handicap.
Not to continue to state the obvious but.... maybe they shouldn't make racist/homophobic/sexist comments? Most of the world knows this is unacceptable, I don't understand why some people are trying to make arguments for why it should be ok in esports. Are we trying to create a new paradigm in which we can be as hurtful as we want?
Makes sense
Yes, it boils down to the fact that people didn't want such a racist person employed. They didn't want a "racist piece of shit" getting paid to be racist. And they wanted to teach teams a lesson so that in the future, they are clean of such racism within our e-sport community.
Yes, you are correct. So what's the problem?

E-sports can't exist period if there are professionals continuously making racist/homophobic/sexist comments in public. No entertainment or sports industry will ever have any racist comments on a public show, ever (well unless of course, it's a movie with racism as a central theme). Why should E-sport be any different?
you go to a sponsor and tell him "Now I like you less than before you started sponsoring a SC2 team"
the only logical conclusion that a sponsor can draw is that sponsoring e-sports teams is a minefield - and that if he doesn't invest crazy amounts of effort searching for just the right team with just the right players (with perfect histories which have to be vetted) he'll not just end up wasting his marketing dollars, no, he'll actually get a negative ROI on them.
A sponsor is looking for easy exposure of his brand with a minimum of effort on his part - he does not want to have to become an expert on the politics and emotional state of the SC2 community before sending the first cheque.
