1. destiny doesnt get the most viewers, not even close. 2. no one is defending other people being rude. but by being famous he has more people to possibly offend by being how he is, if a guy has 1 stream viewer ofcourse theres not gonna be as much of a crapstorm 3. having a personality is nothing to do with how many swear words you know, if it did i would be like world famous numero uno.

Except this was in a private ladder game that no one would ever see unless the replay was uploaded. Theres a difference between this and saying it on a public stream in front of thousands.

Words have power. Calling someone a cracker doesnt have that same negative conotation because our society values white people more then any other race, so calling someone white isnt an insult*. When you use a word that discribes a race as an insult, you are stating that your race is better, even if its through subtext. Race is an INCREDABLY sensitive issue. If I was a TL admin I would perma ban destiny, but if I was a TL admin destiny would never have been featured either. The dude is a professional troll who isnt even that good at starcraft.
*this is not my personal belief, but american society is racist like crazy.
Not just American society. If you think American society is racist like crazy you should live in Australia as a minority for awhile. Love Australians, don't get me wrong, but there is an insane amount of racism in Australia.

As the biggest SC2 community on the internet (by far), Team Liquid (and his staff mostly) is actually able to shape (or at least, they have a say) the culture (patterns of behavior and customary norms) of the SC2 "readership". Bans and sanctions gave important contextual information for all the users of this forum on the "dos" and "don't do" of the community. Then, you can count of the self-reinforcing nature of forums (people posting the same thing over and over like this thread) to nourish the dominant norms of values of the community. I'm not saying that those values are wrong, but it seems to me we are nurturing a conflict-less environment, showcasing mostly "positive" values even if most people is just apathetic. It just a corporate wet dream: the 18-25 class age without all the crap that usually comes with it (profanity, deviant behavior, etc... ).
It looks like the pre-betting scandal era from Broodwar, when Broodwar was heralded as the manifestation of the "innocence of youth" (forgot the slogan, but it was something like that). It is truly ironic as the SC2 scene is probably the whitest scene (well, if you count asian as white, lets say "black-less" and "latino-less" ) of all gaming genres. WardenSC has the right to feel offended and, on the same situation, i would have been offended too. But 130 pages on racial slur makes me feel this thread says little about racism and a lot about how much we try to showcase ourselves as the white knights we certainly are not.
Screw the 18-25 demographic they don't buy stuff.
Haha, but more seriously isn't the tweens and teens the gold demographic for almost everybody?. Well that and the yuppie demographic

Does anyone use a racist word, even when in the most heated of arguments? When arguing with a black person, the idea of saying the word "n*gger" just simply wouldn't cross my mind. I genuinely do think a person that has that sort of word in their arsenal of insults, is inherently racist.
|
The hoards of users posting here to let it be known that they don't personally care about it seem to miss the point entirely, concerning themselves only with themselves, rather than others who stand to appreciate the basic, racism-free respect that most of the civilized world has learned to share with their fellow man by now. In this incident, as a single example, it's very well possible that he's speaking to a 12 year old this way. He doesn't know, nor does he begin to care. It is sloppy, hateful behavior. This scrutiny is merely an extension of the healthy regard that we turned on Orb in weeding that sort of behavior and speech out of our community and in particular the sanction of organizations, which are backed by sponsors who will pull out over things like this. No self-respecting company in the public eye will associate themselves with blatantly inhumane, racist behavior.
This also perpetuates, unnecessarily, stereotypes and stigma about the social ineptitude and overall immaturity of gamers - an obstacle that none of us stand to gain from, and that many people - as fans, players, and career men stand to lose out from. It is wholly unnecessary and detrimental to our community and thus it must stop. It is, at times, unfortunately the responsibility of the community to babysit, through whatever means necessary, the unacceptable behavior of some of its star individuals who would otherwise do harm to the quality of the scene as a whole if they were to go unchecked.

Maybe. But it's pretty fucking lame to call somebody out for insensitive remarks when you yourself make homophobic remarks.

I've seen Destiny's BM and racial slurs before, and In general, I don't really care about it.
I thought his explanations were very silly and like a young kid just spouting a kind of quasi-philosophical rebelious thing "To me this word means this, and I'll say it because I mean it how I mean it and words shouldn't hurt you"
But I think the turned corner in this case is that he's shattered his own argument. He's not throwing out a term like 'Well rape obviously in this context doesn't mean sexual assault' or 'Im just saying nigger because it's like a word and I'm like yo, not saying he is one, just saying it'
But in this, that's what he's doing, he's taking the direct racial slur for that person and throwing it directly at that person.
I think people get overly sensitive sometimes about use of words out of context....but this is the exact context you're not supposed to use it in. This is the one where its not only offensive, but that it was 100% meant to use the slur to refer to the race of the person you're saying it to. There's just no wiggle room on this one.

That doesn't make it any less damning. The OP is clearly a fraud from the chatlog. If anyone can seriously argue that they're trying way too hard.
The replay was uploaded. People did see it. The OP was a hilarious failure.

I feel like Destiny just needs a kick in the ass, and I hope this is it. He is incredibly ignorant about other peoples thoughts, views, and beliefs, and thinks that no matter what they say, he is right. Yes, he can be funny and entertaining, but at the end of the day he is still a jackass. He needs to step up to the plate and mature up. This isn't middle school anymore.

Now I understand that one may get frustrated if he/she loses in a game (I've been there myself). I also understand that it is his stream and he may say that he can do whatever the hell he wants in his stream. However, he stands now as a "community figure" who has the reach to influence thousands of viewers daily and can skew the public's view of sc2 community in an extremely negative direction. Isn't it reasonable to expect a level of professionalism from a player that plays on a professional team? I just don't think spurting out racial slurs left and right in front of a large audience is why Quantic sponsors Destiny to market their team. As a note, I don't think QuanticDestiny is a true racist. However, I do believe that ignorance towards his excessive use of racial slurs would eventually lead to tolerance within the community and that would be a very dangerous outcome.
You are the thing I despise the most about the internet.A prolific bm-er who,out of vengence not out of any morale or ethic considerations try to turn a community against one of its heroes by presenting partial truths.
Explain this: [01:27] DaeHanMinGuk » wtf is this shit [01:31] DaeHanMinGuk » Only zergs tonight [01:50] Crentist » i have been getting fags all night [01:54] Crentist » huh! So the fragile, politically corect poster is nothing more than a common bm-er who just wants vengence on somebody who outbm-ed him. If this was a court of law your credibility would be tarnished and the case dropped. Now the most entertaining sc2 player is banned and facing repercussions. You should write an appology post Shame on you and on the likes of you.

It doesn't really bother me. The only thing that bothers me is the blatant double standards that people have against people that aren't as well liked/known (like Orb) and the amount of leniency that Destiny is getting just cause he is "liked."
