Is it reasonable to call someone a gook/faggot/nigger?

@Destiny, who I dislike There are things people older than me taught me. One of these is "never say anything that could let You into trouble" Would You call a black man a "stupid nigger" in public because he stepped on your foot by an accident? Of course not, because you'd walk away with your nose shattered. BUT JUSTICE, LAW, POLICE, HE BEAT ME! You asked for this. You are an adult, you are so-called professional SC2 player. You need to learn to take responsibility for your actions. As far I know, every language has its insults. How did it happen that every insult in English is connected to some racial slur? I can't imagine a banker saying "FUCKING NIGGER" in public when something goes wrong in his work. Yes, you can swear. Yes, you are free to let your anger go from time to time. But I don't see how an adult (add professional SC2 player, so a public figure to that) can behave like that. Call him/her/the situation whatever you want in your mind. You are free to think whatever you want. When you are doing something though, keep in mind that you are not the only damn person in the world and others see and care about your behaviour.

I bet some people enjoy the power they think they have right now. Have fun while it lasts.

Incontrol and others in this thread simple don't understand.
QUANTIC DOESN'T CARE.
Time and time again, Destiny has done bad things like this. Quantic doesn't care! They know about it. They put him on their team BECAUSE OF IT!
They won't do anything against him. I can guarantee it. This will just roll over because people say "It's just Destiny, guys!" Nothing will be done UNLESS SPONSORS ARE CONTACTED.

I give up trying to say how much of an over reaction this sort of thing is, these guys are multiplying.
Never before has the term 'they know not what they do' been more appropriate...

Nobody should use racial slurs. Being a "true" racist or not doesn't come into the discussion.
Can't believe how many people say "who cares"? How about people who actually get called "gook" as an offensive term? People can be so stupid...
|
I'd just like to state (though I'm sure that many people are aware of this) that Destiny wasn't dropped from CoL for his "behavior" at all. I'd advise anyone who feels that they have an issue be very well informed on the matter before doing anything.

TO DESTINY I have a question for you regarding your most recent racial slur... I asked you the same question during your rants about the n-word and you never answered.
when you said it (g**k), what did it mean to you ?
Why did you use that word in apparent anger?
Was there no other way to express your emotions at the time ?
Was the word used to entertain your viewers or to insult your opponent ? - if yes, why would you think that word would be entertaining to your viewers, or insulting to your opponent
try to answer these questions without sounding like a bigot.. [/QUOTE] So each time before he types or says something he must go down a mental checklist?
Please. Everyone get off your high horse and pedestal. Can anyone honestly they never said ANYTHING which may even be construed as remotely offensive by anyone or group of people? There is a double standard in this thread. It is called hypocrisy. You judge others by their actions and yourself by your intent. Grow up people.

Now I understand that one may get frustrated if he/she loses in a game (I've been there myself). I also understand that it is his stream and he may say that he can do whatever the hell he wants in his stream. However, he stands now as a "community figure" who has the reach to influence thousands of viewers daily and can skew the public's view of sc2 community in an extremely negative direction. Isn't it reasonable to expect a level of professionalism from a player that plays on a professional team? I just don't think spurting out racial slurs left and right in front of a large audience is why Quantic sponsors Destiny to market their team. As a note, I don't think QuanticDestiny is a true racist. However, I do believe that ignorance towards his excessive use of racial slurs would eventually lead to tolerance within the community and that would be a very dangerous outcome. I think the real issue here is what started this. You. Specifically, you being terrible started this. I want destiny to make a topic calling out the issue of cheesing players and how being garbage is a tolerated thing in this community. Imagine, for a second, if you didn't cheese destiny. All of a sudden, there's no racial slur being thrown around! All of a sudden you can't make this awful topic! Why is this? Because cheesing is a form of insult to most players. Even if you win, knowing that you could potentially lose to some awful player doing a skill less build is angering to most of the people who play this game. Bad players winning games by doing skill less strategies is the biggest problem this game has and is the cause for so many people hating this game. I dream of a world where I don't have to deal with skill less players doing skill less builds while still having a decent chance at beating me. I dream of a world where cheesers don't act surprised or offended when someone bms them for being complete garbage. I dream of a lactose intolerant world. P.S. I particularly enjoyed that screenshot. 1 base @ 15 minutes, proxy 2 port (you're known for it), the interrupting KOREAN gg despite you being an english speaker, and destiny not being korean.... not to mention while he's clearly about to bm you for being on one base for 15 minutes. It's like you WANTED this to happen, just so you could post this god awful thread. You should be banned from this forum for being such a faggot. youre just trolling right? please tell me youre not for real Slurs are considered unacceptable because of societal convention. If the same is true about bad mannered actions and play in the community, shouldn't this bm cheeser (who only seems to have made this thread for the trouble it has caused) receive the same? Only if you assume that all judgments of unacceptability are created equal. I judge slavery unacceptable. I judge rape unacceptable. I judge the public use of racial slurs unacceptable. I judge offensive GGs unacceptable. Simply because I have the same general type of judgment in all of these cases does not mean that they all merit the same response.
Sure, and I consider actual racism a pretty serious character flaw.
Getting mad at an intentional troll (Let it Raine makes a pretty good case for what type of response the OP was fishing for) is also a character flaw, but a much less serious one.
The community needs to grow up.

I hope Razer does something about this. It's not right that Quantic can enforce an apartheid like regime where racists go unpunished. This isn't 60's southern state america, racism, especially from the disgusting reddit troll Destiny has to be dealt with.
As a proud Christian his atheist rambling was enough to make me dislike him, but this horrific conduct is a taint on e-sports and America.

This kind of language is not acceptable in any kind of healthy community. I know this is the internet and you may think it's OK to say all kinds of awful things and it's OK to offend people and call them names in a racist manner. People get charged by real life penalties for similiar things that are considered as a OK thing by some of the community. It doesen't matter whatever you speak on the internet or in real life. Sponsoring teams and the Starcraft community allows them grow and foster. By supporting sponsors, we do the community far more good than harm.
Let's make sponsors feel welcome in the community - far more sponsors will show interest in SC2, if they feel that supporting the community will in turn gain them our support.
Greetings,
I would like to express my gratitude in Razer's decision to sponsor the Starcraft 2 team Quantic and all other gaming related sponsorship's due to the amount that the communities gain from such sponsorship.
Like many viewers, I see that the fledgling Esport community can only continue to grow and that your support helps this considerably. I consider continued sponsorship of Quantic as a great benefit to our community, and hope that you continue to do so in the future.
As such, I hope that you do not listen to the minority and continue your support of the gaming community, if you do, I personally vow to buy a Razer keyboard and mouse to go with the quality Razer headset I already own.
Thank you and best regards, - [insert name here] Do not send emails to the sponsors. Let the team have more than 24 hours to deal with the issue. Even if they wanted to cut Destiny, they would need to speak with their attorneys and review his contract.
I'm not sure if you are joking or if you didn't read/understand any of my post, please clarify.

If I went around my job spewing slurs at people I'd probably be fired and my job isn't even in the public spotlight. Why should this be any different? If it was just a one time thing of somebody getting angry, then yes, this would be a little extreme, but I think it's obvious by now that both Destiny and Quantic don't care at all about who gets offended by his actions. So you go farther up the chain until you find somebody that does.
