SC2 hasn't offered anything spectacular and if it isn't going to spectacular now, it probably won't be in the future. People are going to be pissed. And to those that speculate that current BW players are going to switch over, it probably won't happen on a big scale. The ones that wanted switch already have a long time ago and SC2 games running alongside isn't going to suddenly convince a bunch of BW players to start playing SC2 or switch completely. They are probably going to recruit players from current SC2 teams. These people aren't simply playing games because it's their job. It's also their passion. Theres a reason why they can play BW for 12 hours a day and not burn out. You can't force someone to play SC2 and expect him to generate stellar performances. That's an awful lot of wishful thinking if you think the BW pros are going to, en masse, renounce SC2 and give up their pro-gaming careers in protest. After tens of thousands of games I doubt it's their passion for BW that keeps them practising for 10+ hours a day so much as it's their thirst for competition, which SC2 will just as easily satisfy. There was no incentive for the top players to switch before since the BW scene was still going relatively strong but when the options presented are to retire and go find a normal job or carry on their careers in a slightly different environment then I can't see many willingly choosing the former.

In all likelihood when this initiative fails miserably, it becomes a big "fuck you" to bw though.

From what i read, BW is in the decline with a serious lack of Sponsors, which means in a few years (maybe even just months), there won't be enough money left to support everything we currently have. Yes, SC2 doesn't have the numbers in Korea (maybe not yet, maybe never), but what alternatives are there... would you rather want to watch Flash, Bisu, Jaedong, Fantasy and Stork playing League of Legends together (not saying that it's a better or worse game)? Or switch to CS:GO? C&C? DotA2? WoW Arena? SC2 is the closest alternative to BW and it's the only long term alternative we have. It's not perfect but it developed a lot since release and maybe someday it will rightfully be called a sequel to BW. Anyways, on topic: Alternating Sets sounds... wierd. Why not go "first one Bo5 BW, then one Bo5 SC2 and if each team won one Bo5 then go into some sort of mixed Ace match.

When did I ever write that BW pros are going to retire from progaming in protest? And its because of their thirst for competition? That thirst comes from the fact that they want to become the best at what they are interested in playing. It's kind of hard to be interested in competition when the subject itself is uninteresting. Having to play SC2 is going to decrease their desire to practice and compete. Thats a fact, no matter how small or big that decrease may be. How this is going to produce interesting matches in a game that has yet to be broadly attractive as a spectator sport is beyond me. This whole idea of mixing games is total shit. I still can't believe someone came up with this idea.

The games are completely individual and need to be kept that way, i get they might want a transition but this is not the way to do it. Reading a lot of the posts in this thread i do hope you stick to broodwar and don't join the sc2 scene, it will be better off without you.

The current top tier sc2 players are tied to teams and won't be swapping to these broodwar teams, i doubt the broodwar teams would even want them. If they want to introduce sc2 to korea they need to have their own proleague, make it smaller but with the current good sc2 players. The practice schedule and team layout of the BW teams will result in almost immediate success at SC2 - these guys will be competitive almost immediately. It's not like they aren't already practicing for it.

It's not like they aren't already practicing for it. Not entirely true though. I would say top players would transition and find success quicker than mid-tier players but immediate success for everyone is kinda a little bit stretch. HyuN, for example, switched almost immediately after MBC Hero disbanded but he still goes 5-12 in his Korean TLPD (he's finding more success in foreign scence, though). He also lost to Liquid'Taeja in the previous GSL code A and still could not re-qualify for this season. As a team, I would say relying solely on top players are not going to make a team successful immediately. Giving them half 3-4 months or half a year, and I think they will be competitive.

It's not like they aren't already practicing for it. Actually, no. The guy above provided a good example, and if they train by themselves in their closet without interaction with current SC2 pros, they will be restarting everything by themselves and won't be up to date with the current strategies/metagame/abuses. Ladder isn't enough. The games being played right now are night and day when you compare them with early 2011. People have gotten better, and one or two monthes part-time isn't gonna be enough practice to be at the top or even provide really good games. SC2 games in proleague, if played by current SC1 pros WILL be bad or bland and cookie cutter (or just plain wtf-ness with crazy strats which would have no chance to work against a full time sc2 pro). Hell, it might even reduce the quality of SC1 games T_T

actually the best idea on handling this is to make mixed starcraft proteams who would be living together but play different games like 8 people for BW and idk 6 for SC2 or smthn.. still terrible I know -,- if they really want to make SC2 PL then just make it separate please..

It's entirely possible, actually, that they'll be separate leagues but filmed as intertwined to cut costs. Like, KT is playing SKT in BW Proleague, and they might as well also do their SC2 proleague match as well since the cameras are set up and everything. (Ace, I think, would be BW only). That makes some modicum of sense. Having an SC2 league at the same time as the BW league like that wouldn't cost much, but it'd bring a ton of money in from the foreign SC2 scene (and, eventually, the foreign BW scene as well), which'd help the teams quite a bit. For KeSPA not to have an English stream and some sort of Gom-style Pay-Per-Vods would be....silly. It would defeat the entire purpose. Most of the popular SC2 casters were BW players or casters, (Tasteless, Artosis, Moletrap), and it'd be totally worth the marginal cost of adding that. It'd be fun to see Tasteless casting BW again, too, and it'd increase the chances of KeSPA trying to do SC2 while keeping BW alive by selling it to the foreign scene. That's pretty much the one thing that they could do that'd make everyone happy, and I think it'd be a smart long-term play, if for no other reason than throwing all their eggs in the SC2 basket leaves them at Blizzard's mercy. I just kind of hope KeSPA goes the 6m1hyg route instead of the traditional 8m2g style. If they did that while funneling some of the SC2 money into keeping the BW scene alive, that'd be the bestest thing for everyone.
