It's true, we need our necromancer master training to finish. And that takes a long time.

Why do we fall Bruce?

I'm willing to teach anyone willing to learn, but it begins with executing standard build orders :x

Lol are you kidding me? Hacking has been dominant in the last years of wc3. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if it was a considerable factor to the death of w3. I remember in the very last games I played a year or two ago, they built like 5 necropolis in our bases with an immediate scout, then they had a maxed army 2 minutes after that with 3 heroes each. I don't even know what hack they used, but it sure ruined every desire to play ladder for me.
That's not even counting the countless disc hacks. You can't even count how many of them there were. I think the last one had to do with sharing your units with your opponents or something.

That's why everyone is on Garena or playing custom games with other Liquid players

I remember once when I laughed hard at someone trying to use disc hack on me. Game starts, he says GG, I get huge lag and it seems like I'm going to DC but I just wait it out. The game then resumes as normal and the guy DCs instead.
True story.

Thanks very much, added to the OP

Manit0u's undead guide is the best strategy guide about WC3 on internet. I couldn't find anything better.
|
Yeah, well, I wrote it when I was still pretty bad. My prime came a bit later and even then I didn't give WC3 enough time to get really high. But I did follow it religiously, watched all tournaments (WaaaghTV was the single most awesome thing to ever grace RTS, ability to obs pro games yourself, looking at whatever you want atm?) and tested a lot of things and gathered quite a bit of experience this way.
I wish I could find my basic guide for surrounds etc. I believe I posted it somewhere on TL.net and it was the most enlightening thing for me when I saw Grubby teach this to his friend (and also, why you had to remap "Move" to "Q" because it's the most important key).
Brief summary:
You can test it out yourself, because it's only good when you see it (someone could do it and post screenshots).
Start a test game and go Orc (it's easier to see what's this all about with Grunts as they're so big).
1. Build 4 Grunts and a hero (or 5 grunts). 2. Put hero in the center and spread 4 grunts around the edges of the screen. 3. Select all the grunts, press "move" command once and click on the hero. 4. Spread grunts again and this time issue "move" command twice (Q, Q, click) and see the difference.
Best key mapping (you can do it yourself by just editing the keys.txt file in your WC3 dir): QWER ASDF ZXCV
Do it for every menu. You then get Q - move, A - attack, S - stop, ZXCV - hero and unit skills (Z, tab, Z, tab, Z is pretty damn easy for tripple nuke), Z - build (for workers), you then can build early stuff nicely and even if you forget some shortcut you can just take a quick glance on the grid and you instantly know what key it corresponds to. Save time, be more efficient!
P. S. Imba gay HU vs UD strat for the brave: rax + lumbermill + altar make footies, go towards UD base with footies + militia, buy Firelord on the way, tower rush with footies + spawns. Get defend if you see fiends.
So gay

you only need 4 units to surround, and q doesn't work if you play elf, or human (or in some cases undead) or rather, if you play elf, or human and move command is q, you need to reset build quill beast on the beast master to a new key.
also, speaking of WTV, I am still a broadcaster for that, if it is still active, and can provide that service if ever need be. I also run my own group, so I can invite others to be able to broadcast.

You're surrounding 1 unit with 4 (that's why you build 5), it's just to show the difference between one and double-move. Q doesn't overlap as ideally you want to remap everything so even beastmaster has his skills under ZXCV.
And on a sidenote, you can surround with 2-3 units just fine under certain conditions (terrain blocking, wisp well building etc.).

Holcan vs Manit0u grudge match?? Yes yes yes!!!
|
I'd like to obs that actually ...
I guess Manit0u's talking about something like the SC2 grid layout. I'm not too big a fan of it in either game, because of how I hit my Shift/Control buttons, but I won't lie, having to reach for M is kind of annoying at times. :x
|
By grid layout (haven't really played SC2) I mean your keyboard reflecting button position on the GUI. It feels strange at first, but after a couple of games the advantage of having everything close together becomes apparent. Just need to swap attack and patrol I believe. Q (move) and A (attack) will be your most used keys anyway (after 2 years of playing WC3 I practically stopped using right-click completely, just to set waypoints and shift-select focus target priority), then there's Z (first hero skill, first unit skill and build order for workers) and S (stop). All of them nicely close together.
A and S being the only ones that don't fit the grid (A would be patrol and S empty) but they're still close and way too natural for attack and stop to change them.
You should really try it.

Damn, this sounds like fun! I'm in!
