Orb Dismissed from Evil Geniuses Broadcasts - Page 44

Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Remember, when making comments/claims to provide proper evidence, facts etc. Arguments based on incorrect assumptions, facts and straw men, will be dealt with swiftly. If in doubt, PM a mod or ask IRC. Do NOT spread misinformation, when in doubt, check your sources. In short, be smart. I believe that the community should forgive Orb for his behavior. But I also believe that EG made the right decision by letting him go. Modern here meaning extremely patronizing and over-reactive. This is not a big deal. You know who gets mad about people saying 'nigger' these days? White people, not black people. It continues to amaze the hell out of me that the people at the front lines (e.g. Alex) are invariably white and seem to be under the impression that there are massive racial problems going on in language. You really care about racism (not just Alex, but people in this thread in general)? Go to Detroit or a poor inner-city area and start trying to fix the problems where they actually are. Stop the cycle of poverty that breeds division between races. Nobody is going to criticize you for that. But people do get mad when people who would otherwise probably not participate in any social activism whatsoever 'stand up against racism' (see: this situation) and act like some great moral victory has been won. To me, it's just condescending nonsense, and while Alex's post is academic (though I can't say his style is very endearing) it's still just 21st century post-modernism coming out in force and is basically the manifestation of an extreme desire to see no one ever offended for anything, regardless of whether they have much grounds to feel offense.

If yer gunna dismiss him for something he did before he was a part of EG, then dismiss Idra for all of his hateful bullshit he did before he was a member of EG. People need to get over shit. this post perfectly fits what i said not to do in mine. it goes deeper than your 'black and white' comparison between the 2. there are very big factors you are ignoring if you guys are so angry, please create a group of followers and organize an online discussion with alex and EG. if youre going to create hate on EG, dont do it with a mob mentality, and try to prove your point in a mature way

One day, when you grow up, you will learn that no everyone has the same opinion as you and that you have to deal with it. That isn't even relevant to what I posted. I never once said I prefer people to act racist. If your going to reply to someone, it's best to make sense and disagree with dignity(by not acting holier than thou) and accuracy. I even said it was great that we condemned the behavior. The issue I had was people nailing EG by contacting their sponsers before giving them a chance to handle the issue. Also to the comment that qouted me earlier. I didn't mean to make it sound like I was shooting alex down. I feel like he HAD to make that huge long post, and THAT is the annoying part.

To me it's all about intention, he only pulled the word out of a hat at the peak of his rage, the worst word he could possibly think of, a word that gains its power by people like you. Americans being americans. This. We make the word out to be a terrible thing, which is what makes it such a strong word. I understand that EG needed to punish him after such (in my opinion) childish outrage, but to fire the guy before he even had a chance to really cast for them (which, he does a damn fine job of staying professional when on air for an actual cast), is a bit extreme. I seriously wish Americans in general would stop being so politically correct all the time, and white guilt wasn't such a huge god damn problem. I can understand if say, the NAACP decided to contact EG, but I don't get why white dudes behind a computer screen should have so much power, or even really be offended by the use of a term not directed towards them or anyone they actually know in person. Also just because the brown man in me must do this. ITT white dudes being offended about terms that don't apply to them. For the record, if any of you guys want to call me a sandnigger or coolie, go right ahead. Or towelhead though that applies more towards the guys in the middle east more so than indians. Then again, being someone who actually has racism occur to them I seem to have grown a thick skin towards it... something white people continuously tell me is "wrong".

In a whole other sense, EG should start making the level of professionalism expected from their employees clear to them so BS like this doesn't ruin the career of someone else

EG has handled this very well, so please put yourself in their shoes before you blindly post. I disagree. I feel like "oh well, 'fag' has transcended its offensive homophobic roots" is the exact same thing as "nigger." just because one is much more commonly used doesn't mean it shakes off its homophobic meaning. I agree that there is no black and white on the subject, but to claim that faggot isn't a charged word while nigger is is just ridiculous. Both words are extremely offensive and meant to get an obvious rise out of the person by associating them with (implied) negative attributes (be it homosexuality or skin color). But i do agree EG has handled the situation extremely well, and orb definitely brought this down upon himself.
