Alex is verbose, and you owe it to yourself (and the rest of us) to read the statement in its entirety. Orb calls people niggers while on his own personal time Orb has few fans Orb gets fired by EG.
Very true (albeit orb did try to cover it up but, still...).

according to the OP it doesn't matter when it was dude... he said that if he knew Orb had said those things in the past they never would have hired him. They have other employees that have said awful things in the past and they are not doing anything about it. They are being extremely hypocritical.

So pretty much you can get wtfpwned in the future for things you've done/said in the past?
Well I guess I'll never be esports famous, since I've said some SHIT

TL doesn't employ IdrA. If you were using proper logic, youd' also notice that this post was January 2010 before SC2, ie before IdrA joined EG.
You dumb? Orb also used the word, nigger, before he was hired by EG. Do you like to make moot points? Let me continue. Huk likes ham and demuslim likes to use the internet and idra likes the color green.

I'd have to agree with this. While I personally do not do this, I have friends of all races who do this all the time. Do I think any less of them? Nope. It's the internet and people come on here to blow off some steam and rage like little kids even when they're adults. To all the internet police out there, I guaranty you have at one time or another done something to offend many others as well.
Only reason Orb is getting in so much trouble here is that he was actually caught.

Whenever I've heard the word gay (used as a synonym for stupid or lame) and f----t I've always tried to speak up and and show people that they are wrong to use it, but so many gamers think its okay and try to defend themselves that they aren't promoting anti-gay sentiments, but that the word has a new definition in the gamer context as being "stupid" or "dumb". Let's please fight this. We're all better than this and the community is better than this. They have a logically structured argument, don't they? All you have is an appeal to ethos, whereas lots of people who share your view can produce arguments with some persuasive power.

This. Of all the parties involved I find that the community handled this situation the worst.
A punishment that befits a crime is hard to evaluate. It is much better to not commit the crime in the first place I guess...

Well guess what... orb dropped the n-bomb more than 2-3 months ago, ie before orb joined EG.
Hypocrisy gogogo!

This is retarded..... the guy is playing on his own time and his own account. Let him do what he wants.. if people are that upset about it theres a report feature on bnet... also those people have profanity filters off.. so it obviously doesn't bother them. I mean yeah its their choice to use those words etc.. but its your choice to have it on or off and if it offends you why the fuck do you keep it on..

This is the most self righteous bullshit I've read in a long time, I don't share your viewpoints so therefore I'm childish?
To me it's all about intention, he only pulled the word out of a hat at the peak of his rage, the worst word he could possibly think of, a word that gains its power by people like you.

I dont get how people cant get over the face that there will always be a double standard. Not just in sc2, but in all sports. Players provide way more than casters to the team, and as such can get away with a ton more. This situation is pretty odd in particular because orb just moved in to their house like a week ago. Had he been their caster living with them for 2 years I'm sure the outcome would be entirely different. Sometimes people in the community show how little business sense they have.

What Orb did is what plenty of teenagers do on the internet. It is a shame that such prevalent and immature actions devalue the legitimacy of the grand effort to create respect for what we love, Starcraft 2.
People should be ashamed of not waiting a week to give EG time to sort out its business before contacting their sponsors. This has been completely blown out of proportion. What Orb did sucks and we always should strive to create a demeanor that is appealing to the public. We should have and did condemn his behavior and yet we as a community get punished because people have no patience when it comes to justice being served.
And it is indeed punishment that has been dealt out to us all. We have, in this instance, demonstrated to sponsors that there are people who are risks to represent because they are outlandishly immature and raised the question, can organizations like EG control their employees? /vent
Just because you would prefer that everyone act like a child and drop hurtful, off the cuff racist remarks, does not mean everyone does. One day, when you grow up, you will learn that no everyone has the same opinion as you and that you have to deal with it.

Maybe in 20 years the word will not have as much power over small minds as it does now again,,,, its just a word.... The only power it has is the power you give to it.
That's just bs for "i can say anything I want. It's your choice to be offended." Sorry, life doesn't work that way. You're just attempting to justify the use of terrible words.

Why should anyone let this go? If we accept the premise that we can fire people for past actions (no matter the forum) then why is this acceptable? And this is my main problem with how this situation was handled.
I almost wonder whether IdrA would be let go if enough people complained to EG's sponsors over this comment.

It's refreshing to see a company that has a modern attitude towards race and social justice. I just liked Team EG on facebook in large part due to this post.
I believe that the community should forgive Orb for his behavior. But I also believe that EG made the right decision by letting him go.

I agree with you that it is ridiculous to bring up two year old posts and claim someone should be fired because of it, but that example illustrates the hypocrisy of what Alex said. All he had to do was echo what Scoots said on LO3, if they found out Orb lied to them, there would be trouble.

So in EG's eyes, the word "nigger" is worse than "faggot?"

Americans being americans. It isn't about intention, if it were about intention you could say literally anything and get away with it. Kind of like how you can start any sentence with "I'm not racist but," and then fill it with the most racist remark you can dream up and laugh like a child when someone is offended.
