Whenever I come to TL I do my normal stuff. Check SC2 General, check the tourney section and afterwards check the rest I want to.
When I first registered to TL, a year ago I think, I thought well this seems to be a pretty good looking community with some regular idiots shouting stupid shit in the threads, which tends to be normal in the world of internet.
Then after lurking awhile and started to get used to TL I started posting stuff in here. Some pretty standard fan-stuff and not too long sentences. Then when I first time added longer post to just point about his opinion and tried to suggest something other, which in my world is called constructive criticism, he instantly posted QQ text about me being ignorant as fuck, me not knowing how things work in Starcraft etc. Without even knowing what I know about the game, not saying that I know everything about the Starcraft universe, balance or meta game, but obviously better than he did.
That was the strike one for me in this community.
After that I've been lurking and trying to be as polite as I can since I hate aggressive talk back and forth, I guess I might be just too friendly/passive for internet then.
I started to check all these fan threads more intensively, and started cycling around tournament pages and that's when it hit me. Every time a game is being played in higher level tournament the pages are filled of whining about other race beating other race just because races X ability to some spell/ability is way better than race Y's spell/ability. People yelling each other stupid things about being ignorant and stupid for not knowing how things work, AGAIN.
This was the strike two for me in this community.
I haven't experienced the third strike which will lead me away from whole Team Liquid site, not that I do not like the team, I do. It's just that the community are filled with trolls and idiots and these "godlike" people who tend to never be wrong about anything.
I don't see how the Esports world evolves anywhere if everyone is bitching about everything and bashing other people. I just would like to see a community, FOR ONCE, with a backbone and to be friendly, if that is a word anymore in the internet.
Peace yo~
phew got it from my chest, my work here is done.

Make a better system, then. Take a look at stackoverflow.com to see how someone took a look at experts-exchange.com and made a system that works and isn't annoying. You can do it too, since you have such a great idea of what the problem is.

I`m pretty sure you`re not supposed to just call people things like " ignorant as fuck" on TL. Why didn`t you report him?

And therein lies the problem, although SC2 general has been a bit better, either way, its the internet.

Surely you meant to write "Idiocy."

Idiot¦ism: "Movement of Idiocy"
Well, if idiocy infuriates you, then I suggest you take a look at Nada's Body, it will calm you.

Every time I join another forum, I feel so weird. I start thinking "how can that asshole post something totally irrelevant to the thread, without getting banned ?". Then I realize that I'm not on TL, and that I'll probably find another community like this one.
Sure you can always find a few examples wherein people were not nice to you. But it will be really difficult to find a better place, with so much free quality content, high posting standards, and, above all, amazing people. Just look at the blog section. We have top restaurants critics, a WSOP bracelet winner, countless talented artists, a superhero ambulanceman, etc.
You'll probably get your third strike quickly, register on another community, and come back here.
TL for life man.

Looks like you are looking for strike no.3. lol

As for OP: I know how you feel. There are a lot of people that think they know better, some with more power than others that feel will always be right. All you can do is just dust it off, and rationalize the situation if it marks you personally. At the same time I can understand if you feel like you're about done with the community if you can't get decent answers to your posts. Sometimes I think these forums are a bit too strict, when it comes to whether people dare writing anything or not, because people are afraid of the banhammer. Heard quite a few people say that by now. :p I see the same threads over and over, because often times threads seem to be deleted if a mod feels "this thread isn't going anywhere" after a few responses, but that's just my opinion ofc. At the same time it's really good that the mods are out, and make sure things are going in a decent fashion, but sometimes I feel like people that post threads with constructive intentions get shut down. Would be very sad to see people migrating from this community, because we can't treat each other properly though, but I honestly think this is the best gamer community there is.
Anyways it's up to us to make sure there's no strike 3! I will try, sir!

I agree on your basic point, but through TLs moderation policy it is imho already much better here than in other forums. The only forums I know that have less trolls/idiots are small, closed groups of people that know each other for a long time. I don't see a reasonable way to improve a community as large as this one is.
Yes, it feels like "everything was better in the past"; I remember times on the internet, where the almost every site felt like a close knit community, but the past is gone and we have to live in the present now.
|
I don't really get your post, you acknowledge the existence of idiots on the internet yet you ceremoniously give TL it's 1st and 2nd strike on behalf of these people?
Even besides the funny that is judging the community as a whole whenever someone posts something you don't like, you talk like you're the #1 wanted user of all the internets. Really hard to take a blog seriously when it's basically an unknown person threatening to leave the community unless people "shape up".
And then there's logical beauty like: "Without even knowing what I know about the game, not saying that I know everything about the Starcraft universe, balance or meta game, but obviously better than he did."
Which made me ponder a certain facepalming starship captain.
Community QQ in a community QQ blog, lol!

No thanks to OP for contributing in his own way to make TL worse. No-one cares about your stupid and petty grudges.
|
You're following a game that attracts a broad audience of people because it's quite easy to play without much effort put in and it looks good (or at least they say so). If you want to be a part of a different community, either find the few people in it that you consider worthy or follow a game that attracts a different subset of people. It's that easy.
|
try saying anything a MOBA game community or actually playing one. LoL... So much direct harassment.
|
You've been here too long. You're trolling and you don't even know it.
|
Just treat it as "real life" (this expression makes so small sense outside of MMO), because it is real life with real people, and ignore the one you dislike.
Problem with Internet if we don't people face... it helps so much when you see someone's face. Age, mood, apparent dumbness level, etc.
|
When you lose faith in the internet, you'll be alone... all alone. TL is pretty good compared to other internet communities. Blatant trolls and offenders are banned almost immediately, and repeat ones are banned for lengthy periods of time or even forever. Keep it together, I'm sure you'll look beyond the trolls and enjoy the community here.
|
It strikes me as funny when people write rants or blogs about idiots on the internet, and at the same time seem to think they are in every way superior, and don't include themselves into that large group.
|
Welcome to the internet buddy
|
LOL it's the internet, get out of the kitchen if you can't stand the heat. How will you survive life if you can't survive the TL.net forums? Life will not be moderated like all get out.
