Do I need to install a custom ROM to change the theme of the phone?
Is it 1 "theme" per ROM?
What is that windows phone 7 looking theme I saw earlier.
What are the benefits of rooting the phone?
Are there any better apps for music/video/camera in the market place? Or are the preinstalled ones the best?
Thanks fellas. I have Go Launcher and it allows you to change themes, also other launchers will do, they also have a lot themes floating on Android Market. I'm not modded so I don't know about how it specifically works with ROMs but I'd still recommend a launcher on top if you like pretties (WP7 I have no idea) Rooting gives you permission to do stuff like overclock underclock modify stuff locked down by Samsung, install apps that require root, install custom ROMs and generally be a badass. Which I've also yet to do but I will when I get the time. There seems to be a ton of literature on it around the web. Music: Songbird, Winamp I've used, are good and offer more options and better syncing than default, apparently DoubleTwist is also good, and some good Chinese apps too like Kugou which allows you to download music, it's legal in China, sort of. Camera is good by default, Camera360 adds extras to make it more fun and artsy but I don't see any actual camera improvements.

In ICS, you hold volume down and power button to take a screenshot. With the Galaxy S2, you hold home button and power button to take a screenshot. For other phones, I have no clue.

you see next to the image there's a thing that says 'links to share this image' one of them gives a DIRECT LINK
so..
for example instead of ending in a / the link should end in .jpg. because we want to directly go to the image and not the imageshack image display site.

that's pretty sexy, which launcher are you using there? the iphone styled folder is appealing ._.
on a random note, i've switched to galnets MIUI and it's pretty running pretty nicely over here. the signal is a lot stronger than other versions of MIUI i've tried in case anybody out there is interested in trying out gMIUI

Rooted my phone, flashed CM, then realised the Chinese market is gimped and lots of good apps aren't there. Realised I don't have time on a Thursday to set a brand new ROM properly so flashed back to TouchWiz.
But I got a bunch of root-only apps and they are pretty great, also looks fine enough with Go Launcher. Will be trying again with MarketEnabler this weekend tho, I'm bored

Also Chinese Market doesn't have any paid stuff, either. However my phone came with Gmail and GMaps so I flashed back to TW to keep them for a bit until I found out about MarketEnabler and it basically unlocks the market as a non-Chinese user would experience.
Gonna flash to CM in a bit

Erm I followed the instructions on the CM wiki and there were no Maps or GMail in the package I downloaded, so that was that for attempt number 1.
Just tried it again, still no Maps or Gmail but with MarketEnabler but I can at least download them. So no problems there anymore.

The official ICS update has been deployed for SGS2 in Korea.
My first impression is that the new lock screen looks awesome but other than that I'm mostly annoyed by little things. The new font doesn't look pretty and distorts the look of some websites and I can't choose the old one anymore. Also scrolling feels weird with the new stock browser, I don't seem to be able to scroll vertically and horizontally at the same time anymore.
Also my trusty launcher pro doesn't work anymore Switched to GO Launcher for the time being. GO Launcher doesn't let me change my icons with Droidicon though for some reason, anyone know why?

There is so much it seems I could do with my phone and it all looks Chinese to me.. What are the benefits of all this?

Customization, longer battery life (downclock CPU, better ROMs, etc), better responsiveness / faster (since you don't have garbage Touchwiz), more memory / less apps (since you can delete the garbage that the carrier installs on the phone), and there's probably some other benefits I can't think of.
edit: oh I forgot the most important thing, you don't have to wait on stupid carriers to push an OS update.
