Its very simple actualy.
Almost all if not all Terran units require micro and control to be effective. Not controling your units means that you will lose them or atleast trade in an unefficient fashion.
For example a-move a bunch of marines into zerglings/banelings or zealots without stutterstep or spliting will mean that you can pretty much lose everything for almost nothing.
Add to this the aoe shitstorm of banelings, fungals, colossus and storms and unless you already have pretty good micro, big battles or multi battles are a nightmare, and on top of that you also have to macro.
So overall thats it. Terran requires more control and strains players more, there is a reason why most if not all casters play Protoss and Zerg to a smaller extent.

There. I said it. The community is very negative toward Terran players in General and this has caused me to stop playing and only watch games. I find it amazing and bewildering the difference between the SC2 community and the BW community. I played BW for 10 years and I can't recall a single time where someone berated me because of the race I play. I'm not sure what the deal is with these SC2 nerds, but it really starts to grate after a while.
I definitely think it's because of how mainstream SC2 has become compared to BW. That, and the fact that its easier to blame the other person for your loss rather than see what you did wrong, which I think is the wrong kind of mentality.

From terran posts on TL I have another hypothesis for why ladder Terrans don't do so well...

For being around for 10 years, you have a surprisingly short memory of the past 12 months.

Because all my friends who played protoss were constantly barraged about how easy their race was. Maybe not in the same insulting way as you do on the SC2 ladder, but the opinion was definitely there. I played Toss and Terran. Thinking back, I can recall one instance in a clanwar where I went Carrier/Corsair vs. Terran and mass disruption web around important chokes where the battles took place. The Terran bitched about it because it was abusive, but my clan was very happy with the strat ...and mind you, that is NOT an easy strat to pull off! That is literally the only time (other than a cheese rush) where I can remember anyone bitching about my race. The thing that comes to mind for me is mass expanding and mass speedlot+goon vs mech.

straight up terran is harder to play, nothing more, nothing less. People pick the easy route, terran was hardest in bw, and was the least played there as well.

Finally, we have a Terran tears thread.
Its been Zerg tears from the very beginning of beta till recently it was more about Protoss tears. Now Terran has joined in as well. Lets all just cry about how we all have to work "2 or 3 times harder than other races just to stand a chance". I think Ive heard that line said for all 3 races now and its kind of tiring.
Im tempted to switch back to Terran just to see if its as hard as people in this thread make it out to be. I switched from Terran to Zerg because of the same whiny crap that was going on all over the SC2 community, just to see how "hard" it was for Zerg players.
Honestly I think people just need to figure things out. There have been countless examples of people bitching and moaning about how impossible things are for a certain race just to have some top level pros figure out some nuances that cause them to be dominant. Then some other race starts bitching about the exact same shit. Don't people ever learn?

I heard the opposite, "Boxer effect" etc. Aparantly terran was flooded for quite a while.

Gold level terran here. I think the issue is terran is so micro intensive that if you can't pull off perfect micro you better hope your macro is way better then your opponent.
I can't beat zerg, period.. no matter what strat I try wether it be hellion openers to marine tank. All a zerg player needs in gold are lings/b lings. Every time I try to move out my push gets rolled over with lings and banes because I don't have the micro required to avoid being hit. Once that push is over the zerg players will just continually stream lings knowing that my production will be way lower then his.
Been thinking about switching to zerg myself lately, In gold league all you really have to do is russh to 3 base and produce speedlings/banelings and win.

Maybe not in the same insulting way as you do on the SC2 ladder, but the opinion was definitely there. Also, the thing about Protoss in BW is everyone knew it was the easiest race to learn, but the hardest to master. If your friends were lower level I could see how other lower level players could get upset. But at any respectable level of play (no offense to your friends) everyone knew that Protoss was a very difficult race to play against an equally skilled opponent. That's why we have seen fewer Protoss champs than the other races in BW.

Terran requires much more skill (both brain and mechanics) than the other races, therefore at lower level they are a far inferior. You have to micro your units and constantly harass and poke while macroing perfectly. You can't just sit in your base and max out to 200/200 and a-move across then map like you can with Protoss for example. It's not until professional level that you can see the balance start to even out a bit.

Well, in early Beta people were saying that T was UP. So I guess we went full circle now XD. And yeah definitively people don´t learn, that is why we get the UP FotM so frequently . But oh well I wish people actually looked at their play instead of looking what is the next balance reason to blame for their losses.

Personally my level of interest in laddering has gone down alot because of TvP.
I'm not balance-whining here but honestly I do not want to play TvP at all because of the current state. If I could stick to TvZ and TvT only I would have alot of fun but because of the high % of people playing P it's just not fun after awhile. The short-ended games because you picked ghosts instead of viking vs collosus or void-ray allins/6 gates/4 gates etc etc etc... It's just not fun at all. I would love it if I could go into the late-game but I need to end it before so I don't get that enjoyment I do out of TvT or TvZ where I can trade armies all game and keep at it to make the game fun/enjoyable. TvP is over in one battle, even then games you win feel empty and un-fun.

i think Terran is the best race, just really hard. they could use a new unit or something. i played Terran in BW but switched over to Zerg. sort of playing with the idea of switching back to T just because it's not used so much.

This is how I feel also. TvP is just not fun at any stage of the game.

Mass speedlot + dragoon was the standard play against Terran in BW and has been for some time.

in the diamond and masters region terran is more difficult because most terrans dont have the micro of the pros and therefore can't counter the less micro intensive toss and zerg
|
This has actually hurt my TvT a bit. For every 20 games, I usually get about 10-12 Zerg, 6-8 Protoss, and 2-4 Terran. I simply don't get enough practice in to maintain a very high play level compared to my other matchups.
Why has this happened? Dunno. However I can definitely see the differences when I ladder.
|
I have been saying this for months, (been in masters the whole time). If terran is so OP why do i constnatly face 2x as many zergs and protoss on ladder (answer because terran strategy is really hard to execute at the highest level)

Note that I'm speaking about something like C level and lower, everyone I ever knew was 100% of the opinion that at the highest level the game was as balanced as could be.
