No, this is not a joke/trolling thread. We don't need more filler posts asking if it is.
Remember to spoiler season 6 content, and clearly label your spoilers. |

In my case, it didn't really make me into a true brony until fairly deep into the season (the sheer quality of the show kept me interested, but that's it) when, out of nowhere, it hit me and hit me hard. It struck a deep emotional chord unexpectedly and from there, I was sold.
Obviously, it varies for everybody, though I've yet to see someone give the show a fair chance and regret it.

Just watched episode 5 of season 2. I have to admit, I was a little worried about this season, felt like some of the ponies were starting to become sort of stereotypical. But the twist at the end of this episode restored my faith. Now I wish I had a sister!

You know I wasn't going to contribute to Canes question cus I suck with forums/communities, I usually only lurk around due mostly to my many failed attempts to join other internet based communities. I get the urge to try again maybe once every year, and it always ends with me leaving the community and never contributing ever again. I had wanted to stop lurking long enough to talk about MLP for a while, this gives me a good reason, so here goes ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
To keep a long, long story short, when I looked into the phenomenon, I was optimistic about the show, I'm a huge nerd and thought nothing about it being a little girls show about ponies, I just like good things. So I remember finally being pushed into watching the first episode by post 1 on this thread. I remember.....being a little let down? Yeah, I had seen the hype and while I saw the show was good, I didn't understand the massive 'brony' following that the show had. For days I thought it was just some big troll by 4chan, but I wasn't turned away from the series, so I watch another, and another. They didn't help. What finally got me was when I re watched the first episode I watched and there was the first thing I love about the show itself more than anything else. The level of depth in it had made seem like a completely different episode. I like things you can't take in one viewing and a lot of the humor, characterizations, and general background stuff are all things you miss on just one viewing. The other major thing I love about the show, and something i don't hear bronies talk about enough is the setting. Take a way the pony puns and ponys from the world, it could be a legit high fantasy style world. Even the characters homes have a personality, you know whose it is just looking at the interiors.
The things I like most about the fandom is the above post and below post, that this exist. Like I said, I only ever lurk, but when I see that there is interest beyond my own in something I like, I think that's pretty cool. Communities like this also give awesome opportunities that I would never get anywhere else. That TL Mare-a-thon, that was certainly the first and only time I will ever do anything like that (unless you do it again ) and even though I had to miss a lot of it due to work, I was there for the interesting bits. Like Winter Wrap-Ups IRC chat. Like the troll in the stream chat. I remember sitting there watching him troll thinking 'Someones gonna feed him, fuck it up and we'll have to deal w/ that for a while longer', but no, it didn't. I was shocked as I have never seen trolls so disarmed with nothing but love and tolerance from the trollees, even he thought so. Just one of many recent occurrences that make me think this whole brony thing is different somehow. The last and biggest thing I like about my little pony is how I feel writing this. I mentioned about that I always fail out of internet communities for one reason or another. And now, if I go to post on other sites, I talk myself out of hitting that button in a way that feels similar to sc2 ladder anxiety. But this, for the first time ever, I feel comfortable for the first time in a community.
(I meant to keep this short, wow, so sorry. failed hard at that ¯\_(ツ)_/¯) GRAMMAR EDIT XD

I wonder if there's a stigma against interracial relationships in Equestria... like, unicorn parents who are disgusted to find that their daughter is dating an earth pony.
...Probably not. But it could make for good fanfic material.

...Probably not. But it could make for good fanfic material. It's sort of implied in Winter Wrap Up that there used to be some stigma against them living together(earth ponies and unicorns didn't live together whenever Ponyville was founded), so I wouldn't be surprised if it worms its way into fanon.
Unrelated, but have some NMM art:

It seems like the channel linked in the OP always avoids the mass ban waves.

Alright, here's some thoughts about MLP that i managed to find in my personal vault of thoughts.
First of all, i found out about the show in this very thread, which is why i'm connected to this community the most. It was the usual story of 'why is this thread so popular in a mostly masculine populated forum?'. I usually have an open mind so i decided to give it a shot, and watched the GMarshall seal of recomendation episode, Dragonshy.
My very first thoughts in the intro were the likes of "Too much pink! :S", but i quickly got used to the cute ambience in the story. Fluttershy had a very important role of fixing the cuteness overload in my experience, and i was satisfied with that episode. Any criticisms i had of the show at that point, i have now forgotten. However, even with those, i continued to watch the show, starting with episode 4.
The main point of my so to speak connection to the show though, is Twilight Sparkle. I identified with her so incredibly much! Even though i have my friends and everything, i still spend 80% of my free time reading books, watching streams or reading on TL. I also give more importance and attention to my reason, rather than my emotions, which i could find in her. To finish off, i'm also kind of crazy like she is
I really like the fact that the show is centered about friendship. Being a solitary guy as i am, i had never before been able to belong in a community in such a way that i kept my interest in participating for more than just a few months (save TL, but i'm pretty much a lurker here, with 300 posts since october 2010). Thus, every time i saw Twilight write to the princess about her findings in friendship, i pictured myself, whenever i organise my learnings in a similar way; even though without someone to direct to as a master, i did try to get into the essence of whatever i got taught by life.
I am also fond on observing without modifying whatever i observe, and this is one of the reasons why i got hooked in the show. It is a character driven show, that showcases female personalities, which i have found not to be able to study in real life, without putting a hoof in, so to speak. The girls I esteem the most are in fact girls who i understand, they do this or that for a reason, be it because of their own essence, or as an enactment of their social rules.
I alfo find a lot of joy in the optimist, heartwarming style of the story. Whenever i feel a bit down (which is very rarely anyway) i can find comfort in watching ponies doing cute stuff or pulling jokes (which i find to be very funny because they are innocent ^^); and anything that ails me, after a session of ponies, i percieve with a more happy tone. School issues? Just gotta remember to do the homework, make a checklist even. Depression? It's just a chemical phenomenon, it can be proven by the fact that watching MLP instantly destroys it.
The Community is one of the greatest ever. For some reason they keep churning out incredibly high quality content, and in high quantities as well. A 400 page novel? I would have never expected that from any other community, unless it was book driven. The PMVs have introduced me to a whole lot of new music. I have to thank a lot for the creation of the pony polka PMVs, which allowed me to discover Mr. Weird Al himself. Even though i wasn't into drawing before, i do keep an eye out for the new drawfriends, because everything's so beautiful!
We are also very close together, united in bronyness; which is something that i like a lot. Everypony gets treated with kindness, even when they're new, hell, even when they bash the series! That is something that the world lacks, unity. In this century, i have seen the average guy think just for himself, his career, his money his family, everything himself. However, we as a community have a united ego. We are eager to put our efforts into the fandom, because it's a part of us, and we are a part of it. I wish other communities (i speak to TL as well, in this case) would be as united and their members as compromised.
I also like that the parasprites can't seem to damage us almost at all. Haters get repelled with love, and they run away in fear, instead turning to bash the fandom behind our backs. This doesn't hurt those who are already bronies, and establishes a filter that i really like: Mostly open minded, relaxed and kind people will become bronies. This keep the community clean, as every member with very few exceptions is tolerant and open to his companions.
I'd like to conclude by being thankful in particular to the TL brony community. Cane, Zephirdd, DuB, Gary, ZealotKiller, Squarewalker and others who escape my mind; you guys are awesome. The fact that we could organise the mareathon last saturday was appalling in itself, and the quality of it, the show, the PMVs, and our small community of 50 or so people; made it one of the best days in quite some time.
Hopefully we can keep the fandom going for another thousand years!
Edit: GaryOak reminded me that GaryOak is also there! Awesome guy who has done a lot for the community, including being the head and actor of Operation Flutter[9]
