After I came back to the U.S. for a few days, my aunt handed me a letter, stating that she would get sued if she does not pay $3400 settlement to the copyright suing company for my pirated porn. Needless to say, I was shocked. Who would have thought that the lighting would hit them ? I immediately asked TL for advice in my previous blog. Many kind individual and even a few lawyers gave me somewhat comforting advices, building a shaking beacon of hope ( I <3 this community ) It fell shortly, though. My aunt with the help of her lawyer friend discovered that the company already subpoena her identity, thwarting the motion to quash process, and we are among the small pool of victims, so the risk of getting sued if we don't pay the money is quite high. In the end, she decided to pay them (with my parents money, of course). Unfortunately, the story did not end here; its snowball effect's just begun
"Trust is like a paper; when it's crushed, it'll never be perfect again", in my case the paper is burned. My aunt is a strict and law abiding person, so piracy is a big no-no for her. A few days after the incident, she had my computer formatted (and while it was at the shop, Best Buy -_-, she had the tech guy look into my computer, disregarding my privacy, and discovered my porn, movies, and music stash. I naively thought that they would just format my hard drive, so I didn't bother to delete everything but I digress.. ), moved my computer down stair, took away my administrator title, and installed various monitoring programs. She basically took a letter P out of PC. I'm not criticizing or complaining. I bite my teeth and accept the ridiculous consequences of my action. However, out of frustration and curiosity, I foolishly googled "administrator bypass" ( I need someone to type the password whenever I want to install ANYTHING) and got caught by the perfect monitoring program which made the mater even worse. Some good things came out of this, though. Now, I can study for the ACT and do college search without any distraction, and finally fix my sleep schedule .
I also learn so many valuable lessons. 1. A working relationship needs trust, and people with different standard can't comfortably live in the same house unless a person steps down. (My aunt even threaten me that if I fuck up again, she's gonna kick me out f her house . Man, I will probably live alone in the future. It's way simpler that way...) 2. Think before you act. (so generic >.<) 3. Pirate responsibly. Learn how to use peerblock and don't torrent porn. Still, I can't promise I will stop pirating after I leave my aunt's house
I hope this wall of text is not too boring for you guys and hope that you guys would not get into an absurd situation like me
Cheers
Tl;DR: The lighting struck I got fucked But I will try to live with it

And to think how many hookers you could've got for $3400. Such a shame.

That's pretty terrible but its not like you paid for those things right? No real losses there. As with the situation with your aunt, she just doesn't know better but is the authority in her house so you should listen to her while pitying her lack of understanding at the same time.

"small pool of victims" "ridiculous consequences"
You're the criminal here. You're the one who was caught stealing. There is no "victim" card here that you can play.
Sure, it sucks, but it's all more than reasonable and to be expected. The fact that you consider stealing in the future once away from people who can actually effectively monitor your actions is concerning, but none of my business, so whatever.

Wow, was it actually your computer or did it belong to your aunt? Either way, completely disregarding your privacy is a dick move :/

Whatever type of porn it was that you had downloaded, start doing lots of searches for porn of the opposite sexual orientation just to screw with your aunt when she sees a report of what you have been doing with your computer activity!

Wow, you learned a lot from the piracy suit. Worth 3400 easily imo. You're quite the introspective person. You aren't writing this post for your Aunt's benefit, are you :-p. Regardless, you sound very intelligent.

You downloaded pirated porn? Come on, really. I'm sorry for the rudeness but it just seems like a rather risky thing to do.

I don't understand why you guys say "watch porn online, don't download it, hey who downloads porn?". Could someone please give me some links to free porn streaming websites that actually stream in HD quality? Thanks.
