If I'm going to wear this black watch daily though, I may have to end up getting black shoes, but the problem is brown shoes seem to go a lot better with (especially shorts) jeans and khakis than black, but that just may be my imagination. Maybe it'll go well with a white shoe? ugh... I don't like black sneakers especially- The shoes I wear now are: http://www.journeys.com/catalog_detail.aspx?id=31970

but the word "fashion" implies "what is in style" and "what they do," "what is hot," which is completely NOT using your appearance but rather letting other people use YOU, making yourself say only, with your appearance "I am trying not to be the particular I am." so if you look at yourself in the mirror, or see other people and like how it looks, do it, sure. and if you trust other people's judgement, then you can ask them and their answers can help shape the way appearances of clothed people show up for you. that's pretty much fine. but thinking there is some singular, absolute "fashion" that changes and "is right," something tied to people who probably only care about selling clothes to rich people or to fat 40 year old soccer moms who read the jc penny catalogue, which is the connotation of "fashion" if you ask me, then trying to be fashionable is entirely dishonest and wasteful. only you, and maybe people you know, can tell you how they feel about, say, pants. if you think my pants look gay you might actually get me to think of them differently, ultimately. it depends who you are to me, where i see myself in the scheme of things, etc. your question bothered me because it was too ontic: "is it absolutely right, currently, that i must match my watch with my shoes?" that seems going about it all wrong, friend. fashion is basically two entities: A. people who operate freely above and are liked in general by many people and copied. B. the people who chase after "what _is_ 'factually' fashionable" what do i do? perscribe fashion to me. tell me how to act as though i have your thoughts, because i don't. bogus. love, mitsy

I think the best goal is just trying to increase one's confidence and image. Similarly there are ways to do it without spending a shitload of money on clothes, for example by improving communicative/presentation skills and working out and doing athletics. When I was young, I was a total fatty and my Dad just had me to piano all the time. I also skipped grades a shitload when I was young, so I garnered respect from piano playing, but at the same time became socially inept. Now that I'm in this taiwan college, being independent and working on these kinds of things like fashion/athletics is new to me, so I'm working on improving myself to compensate for my childhood without. It may seem extremist, but I like it !

I'm going to play up the piano in the accomplishment side and then for my college essay write about Taiwan and the adversity, being independent and experiencing challenges of college to prepare myself for this, etc.

likewise being nonconformist for the sake of not conforming is equally or honestly, even more dumb though. in the "what grinds your gears" topic I guess you could add "people who pay money for pants that have holes in them so they will appear "punk"". (while I have absolutely nothing against people who wear pants with holes in them, in fact I generally like people who do because it means they don't care an excessive amount about their own looks, paying for inferior clothing indicates the opposite. )

My resume is still on the quirky side and I know that the angle I need to play is the uniqueness, not the "SUPER STUDENT" Do starcraft skills look good on resume?
