With the Gigabyte model, if system temperatures aren't to your liking under heavy load, you may need to add a fan or two to the Define R3. Don't forget a CPU cooler. Out of those in stock, Zalman CNPS10X Performa (356 kr) http://www.inet.se/artikel/5321853/zalman-cnps10x-performa

Yes, the 430 variant of the Corsair CX V2 is enough. The core i5 2500k and Radeon HD6850 use a combined total of sub 200w under load. Oh Kay Even though the i3 will be able to play games like SC2 (CPU Heavy), will it lag during big battles? For example maxed out vs. maxed out. 200 vs 200 (that is, 1v1)? Or 2v2 or more? Also, at what CPU Settings (physics, etc) - low, high, ultra? This all makes a big difference. See some comparisons in games here (google for other benchmarks): http://www.anandtech.com/show/4083/the-sandy-bridge-review-intel-core-i7-2600k-i5-2500k-core-i3-2100-tested/20 (an i5 2400 would perform just slightly below a 2500K at stock). Edit: here's another bench showing the i3 2120 (slightly higher clocked than 2100): http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-gaming-cpu-core-i3-2100-phenom-ii-x6-1075t,2859-8.html Be aware, though, that's probably a 3v3 with maxed armies (at all Ultra settings)

The blower-style fan on the Sparkle model is pretty loud and not as good at cooling as the other one.

I have no plans on overclocking anything and my future rig is primarily gaming with some Photoshop, Illustrator, and video editing programs.

Yes you could overclock with the Intel provided stock heatsink but temperatures won't be ideal or it might be too high if your ambient temperature / airflow is terrible.

You don't need a i5-2500k to overclock, but the non-k processors have an artificial limitation built in and won't overclock past a fairly small amount, forcing you to get the i5-2500k anyway if you want to go a bit further. With a HD 6850, a CX430 V2 is plenty and a pretty good choice. The setup is going to crush SC2 on medium/high settings.

Actually, I will run SC2 in windowed mode so you can't select a resolution. does that change anything?

I'm really excited for the Ivy Bridge as well, but I want to play Diablo III at launch (which is this winter right?!) Diablo III beta should start soon and Blizzard has stated that they want to ship the game before the end of the year. AMD's Bulldozer is expected for September 16th. Intel's Ivybridge won't be out until March / April of 2012. I'm might just wait until Intel's Haswell chip ships and get a Nvidia Maxwell GPU with it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haswell_(microarchitecture) Haswell is expected to have 8 cores! A Maxwell GPU will have 16 times the power of a current Nvidia GPU.
