It just needs to come out, every day it's not out is another day it falls behind LoL. DotA 2 is in all honesty the only MOBA that has a chance of competing with LoL. The whole game of LoL is designed around accessibility. That doesn't really mean that the skill ceiling is low at all, it's just very easy for new players to get into. It is able to draw a very large audience that way, especially with Riot supporting the E-sports side. And as far as tournaments go, the game is still young and the best playstyle doesn't really exist. IEM Hannover has shown us that unpredictable bans/picks and versatility in your comps are way more important. And thus, especially in the games with M5 (the eventual winner of IEM Hannover), the games were exciting from beginning to end. No boring farm phases. Which reminded me off DotA's constant ganks and plays. I tried HoN once, and couldn't make out anything. The graphic style is just abysmal. DotA 2 is a lot clearer on that. Along with LAN mode, good replay and spectator possibilities and possibly Valve pushing E-sports DotA 2 could be a very good candidate to take on LoL.
ffs why anyone has to take over LoL? Is LoL evil or what? This game is free, huge support from developers and they don't sue others or use copyrighted staff there. You really need to be thankful to Riot for creating such thing. Sometimes this community amazes me.

Time for everyone to play "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE!", ready? GO!
Honestly I'm not a fan of the game, neither am I a fan of basketball or hundreds of other things. Doesn't mean I care whether or not it's flourishing or failing. I guess in the grand scheme of things it will hopefully make gaming as a whole more popular, but this doesn't somehow devalue SC2 or DotA or whatever for me. Live and let live man, be happy for those that DO enjoy the game, now they can watch it all the time.

Tbh if LoL was so easy, guys like Destiny should be able to steamroll the competitive scene and take their share of the €5m for Season 2 right? I'd like to see the bigmouthed people step up and pick up the easy money if LoL is such a casual game and doesn't take long to master.
@ bokeevboke
There are certain things wrong with LoL atm. Not that I'm not a fan of Riot or LoL, because I am. But having DotA 2 on the scene could at least force Riot to put in some work and improve the client and get a good spectator and replay system out a bit sooner.
Competitivity between games is nearly always a good thing.

Dota 2 has absolutely nothing on LoL. In addition to being like two years late, it's way more slow-paced and "hardcore" and will fail to attract even 10% of LoL's player base, mark my words.
As lifelong competitive gamer who has during the past year only been watching games due to work and RSI, I can objectively tell you Sc2 is a failure as a spectator game. Unless Blizz makes some major adjustments in HotS, it will remain a fringe esport and die out. For a moba, LoL is actually fun to watch and I've been enjoying IEM quite a lot. It's not the game that will save esports either, though right now, it has a good potential for the growth and development of spectator gaming.
Personally, my hopes were extremely high for Diablo III, but since Blizzard is going out of their way to shit all over arena and prevent it from becoming truly competitive, this is out of the question as well.
Keep in mind spectator gaming isn't about which game you like, enjoy or play, or shich game has an insane mechanical skill ceiling. It's about which game your uncle or fiancee can sit down and watch with you and not be utterly confused or bored.

It spurs competitors on to introduce new features and functionality that benefits everyone.
Of all the raging and flamebaiting posts, you chose one that's actually sensible?

I highly doubt DOTA 2 will replace LoL in regards to viewers. LoL is a thousand times more userfriendly to watch and that is all it needs. The game is good for displaying a good amount of skill and it's always FUN, maybe like 1 in a 100 LoL games is boring to watch, where like 1 in 10 dota 2 and sc2 games are boring. It just makes for a more entertaining experience for the majority of people. I find this to be great news, 10 people per games makes for much more drama and drama is the only reason esports is worth watching.

From a spectator perspective, DotA 2 is currently the better spectator game, given that kills and action happen way more often during the laning phase, there's no 10-15 minute Mexican standoff mid while both teams posture for Baron, and comebacks are way more likely.
These are all problems Riot has admitted to in the past--the question is how they'll go about addressing them.

Just a matter of time now...

"sigh" I've never been a fan of any of the Dota style games. I suppose it's good for esports and I can live with it as long as I can keep on ignoring it xD.

LoL a competitive sport? What's next, rock paper scissors?

I hate to be the one to say it but sc2 is not as fun. I've played a ton of Starcraft and have been half decent at the game for quite a while and I can't remember the last time I had 'fun' playing the game. Sure it's rewarding to see your progress over time and your hard work paying off but that's not what the majority of people are looking for .. LoL is a fun game. Games are supposed to be for fun.
See the pattern here? LoL fun. Sc2 competitive.

It isn't just learning what is what, what works, what doesn't, etc, etc, etc. It is about working together and playing off one another.
That adds a layer of complexity that just doesn't exist in SC2 and probably never will.
But if it is such a noob casual easy game, feel free to jump over and steal that 2 million dollar prize. Must be a steal right? It is so easy.
So 4v4 in SC2 is far more difficult than 1v1? Quick, tell MLG!
LoL may or may not be easier than SC2 it is simply different and there is no use comparing them. What LoL is, however, is a dumbed down clone of DotA with mass-market appeal that will (likely) allow it to always have an audience in the free market. To me, the game isn't worthy of being put alongside gaming's elite: BW, DotA, CS, Quake
It is a fun, casual game but not one I want as the flag-bearer of e-sports.

Seeing all the good players switching to foreign teams and stuff I ask, was this really unexpected to ANYONE ?

so this is how the world ends... guess the prophecies where right

I also didn't rage and whine about it like so many people in this thread are.

i am happy to see another game taking off as a sport.
Also, i dont know when it was decided that only mechanical skill is real skill in esports, but you guys might want to rethink that position.
