It's just a horrible mess to watch. SC2 is by far the most watchable eSport, but Blizzard is crippling it. While Riot gives tons of money to promote LoL tournaments, Blizzard does the opposite, charging tournaments money for using SC2. I believe Blizzard takes 50% of advertising revenue from tournaments. Given those conditions, tournaments will obviously start to favor LoL. Also the massive casual base for LoL means more potential viewers. Blizzard being super greedy and trying to make SC2 into a subscription game in Korea and making it more expensive for PC Bangs restricted the player base a lot and that also hurts the potential viewership.

That's the exact reason why it's booming in popularity, because people like easy things nowadays. The funny thing is, a game that loses popularity won't be called a esport too. It will be called a memory

I think the reason LoL is bigger is cause its a lot more forgiving because it is team based. I also think at lower levels LoL definately takes less skill because there is no real teamwork occuring (There is some) and your controlling one unit TT. I personally found my self playing LoL for hours because it simply was less stressful than Laddering on sc2. I also really dont enjoy watching LoL because it is so much slower and unlike sc2 its really not fun to watch unless you play the game and know all the items. Another major factor why LoL is bigger is because its F2P. But overall they are both good game but yes its kind of sad to hear this news

It just pains me that they are killing SC2 despite it's super potential. I feel like Blizzard doesn't even care beyond paying lip service. They have never once addressed the fact that SC2 is failing in Korea and losing out to LoL, nor have they done anything to try to change the situation. If SC2 esport loses momentum, it will kill game sales too.

And while it's great that Riot puts so much money back into the tournament scene, they do that because they need to buy loyalty from their players - otherwise they will just switch to the next good free game, or even the next MOBA game. They know they need to build a strong foundation because DOTA2 and Blizz DOTA will hit them like an earthquake. The problem is, while DotA2 is a harder game to learn how to play and play well; it will not get the following just because of how easy LoL is to pick up and learn. To be honest, I don't see DotA removing that many people from LoL because of how causal and beginner friendly it is; even with DotA2 being free to play with all the heroes unlocked and how many different things you can do and still be viable. I think LoL is better. It's simpler, fun and easy. I don't wanna spend my free time after work to play some difficult game where you really need to work hard. I think its nonsense to finish off your own minions, I know it comes from Warcraft 3 (where people used to kill own units so that enemy hero didn't get experience) and it diffirintiates good and bad players, but its stupid and not fun. Why the fuck you hit your own allies, it doesn't make sense, lol. You people need to realise that gamers are casual now. No one gonna create esports scene for a bunch of oldschool die-hard fans of so called 'serious games'.

It just needs to come out, every day it's not out is another day it falls behind LoL.

Did Valve miss their window of opportunity to topple Riot from King of MOBA position with THE most iconic MOBA game ever? O_o Either way, I think that dynamic will be key in determining LoL's long-term viability and fate. SC2 as so many other people have mentioned has problems with it's own developers... *COUGH* Blizzard and post 2-yr 0.2 Bnet UI and nerf/buffhammer on steroids and active attempts at profit-guzzling from gaming tournaments... *cough* Edit - AND NO LAN. -__-"
