TL.net ESPORTS 4 Posts 4 hours ago #1 Weekly Cup Competitions Week of August 4 - 10 by Wax High-level players continued to trickle back into cup competition in the second week of the off-season, although Clem continued to sit them out. MaxPax capitalized on his rival's absence, scoring a triple-crown of wins in a busy week of games. *Partial brackets may be shown. August 4: WardiTV Mondays #46 MaxPax began the week with a perfect run in WardiTV Mondays, beating Nerchio(!), Rex, ByuN, and Creator without dropping a single map. He was somewhat fortunate as Creator took a 2-0 upset win over herO earlier in the bracket, while Creator was ultimately unable to recreate that underdog magic in the finals. It was notable that MaxPax continued his recent PvP trend of varying his play up considerably (instead of adhering to Void Ray expansions), as he took his 3-0 sweep over Creator with a proxy-Robo all-in and some conventional 2-Gate Oracle play (VOD). ***** August 5: PiGosaur Cup #43 MaxPax doubled up in the PiGosaur Cup, although he faced a bit more resistance as both Astrea and ByuN were able to draw blood and win a single map. Good use of early-game Blink Stalkers was key to MaxPax's victory, though ByuN was able to take a map with great 1/1/1-style aggression of his own (VOD). ***** August 6: uThermal 2v2 Circuit: Warm Up Cup #5 The $15,000 uThermal 2v2 main event is already underway, but this final warm up cup gave a preview of how Zerg has risen as a surprisingly viable team component. T/P reigned supreme in the earlier uThermal competitions in the first half of 2025, but this cup saw Terran-Zerg team of Milkicow-Wayne upset Spirit-ShoWTimE by a 3-1 score in the grand finals. Spirit-ShoWTimE let Wayne get away with some brazenly greedy play in the series, which allowed Zerg to play the 'carry' role (VOD). ***** August 8: LiuLi Cup August Weekly #1 The LiuLi Cup is back for a series of tournaments in August, hosting three weekly cups leading into a monthly final. The first cup saw MaxPax complete a weekly triple, as he went through Smile, Shameless, ByuN, and Cure on his way to victory (VOD). ***** August 9: StarCraft Evolution League #15 The StarCraft Evolution League (SC2 vs BW Mod) played one final cup before its $5,150 main event, giving us a slight hint at who might be the favorite to take home the first place prize. EWC runner-up Classic ended up taking the final weekly, winning 3-1 over threepoint—the most successful of the 'amateur' players in the SC Evo scene (VOD (Korean)). While threepoint has done well to win cups against more well-known players, he'll definitely be an underdog against a main event line-up that's heavy on current and retired pros.
