Just like how Soccer, Football, Baseball, Basketball and Hockey can all co-exist, SC2, LoL and DOTA2 will co-exist.
Can't believe it's the second time I will do that in this thread(cause its so offtopic lol) but I have vowed to correct it everywhere I see it. So here it is. It's called football.

Apparently some people here from the SC2 crowd are really upset that LoL is more successful than sc2... Seeing Kim Carrier interview, its actually no surprise that LoL is number 1.

I just didn't want to say football twice.

Also the possibility that kespa might adopt LoL instead of sc2 for its next game. Think about it, lots of sc2 players are switching to foreign teams, possibly because they fear for the future of sc2 in korea.
makes me sad, man.

If this is warn worthy so be it, but I just don't see how the lackluster title called LoL is at the top of eSports. I guess DotA2 will easily become the biggest eSport at this rate. Like exactly this kind of comments make no sense. How does it have no competitive aspect? Of course it does, it even has multiple different ranked ladders, where you can actually see your position in comparison to the entire game population(not just a single league). Just because a game is fun to play doesn't mean that it isn't competitive. And again I'd like to point out that SC2 actually casualizes itself far more than LoL.

What did he say during that interview?

You're right, the sport is called football ... just not in America.

LoL is a cool take on "AoS" genre (even though it is a dumbed down version of DotA), my biggest annoyance, however, has always been devs' casual approach to competitive scene. It took them years until they came up with a functioning spectator/replay system yet they had no trouble pumping out a new champion every few weeks to cash-in on casual noobs. In comparison games like Bloodline Champions implemented a replay/ingame tournament system as one of its first features with infinitely smaller budget.
As far as the gameplay goes, skill ceiling IS pretty low mechanically, but since it's a 5v5 game the better team will ultimately win.

Hell it's about time. You guys should just accept it. In 3 months LoL claimed #2 spot. You can bitch all you want but LoL is a bigger game than SC2 at the moment.
|
I don't like kotaku - and i think they're jumping the gun with this one - but the way LoL is going, its accessablity and everything being one step ahead of starcraft 2 and making the game enjoyable, fun, full of features that need to be implemented to make it work as an eSport, then it's kinda a given - only a matter of time.

Or it's clearly Riot's fault for making their game too fun!

I'm not faulting LoL or Riot. I've said repeatedly this is all Blizzard's fault.

I used to tell my students I was teaching that I played this game! I wonder if they remember me? If I got it right in LoL you just control one charakter? This game is supposed to be challenging? Play it and you'll see it. Sure, the mechanical aspect is easy. But that's where the easy part ends. For a lot of people this actually is a big hurdle: You can't just mass game to improve your mechanics and become "better" by that. You actually have to think (and coordinate) in LoL. There are endless numbers of matchups: 5 vs 5 out of a pool of ~70 characters, that makes for something like 1.439.561.377.475.020.800 combinations. Nope, pure practice won't cover that. Ah this argument again...seen it so many times whenever there are SC2 vs BW threads.

Almost all of my friends playing sc2 moved to LoL. The reason is pretty simple, you are rewarded in LoL. You can be the baddest player on earth you can still make a pentakill. + the fact that when you loose you can blame the others.

It makes sense how popular LoL is, social game that is relatively easy to play and good for the casual and groups of buddies to play while having a chat etc, it also has a competitive aspect if you want to go hardcore. Old school RTS like sc2 is niche because the idea of 1v1ing alone in a room for hours on end isn't appealing to a society that doesn't value being lonely for long periods of time.
