I just got my Quickfire Rapid with reds today myself.
I bought this keyboard after my gf was very frustrated with the clicking of my blackwidow. Now, I really enjoy it much more than the blackwidow just because it is a tenkeyless I think and the lack of gloss finish is really nice.
I have also had the 6GV2 and honestly, the blacks required a lot of pressure to activate and I didn't enjoy them at all. I really wanted to try and find a brown switch version of this board locally but couldn't so decided to grab the red switch version since I like the red keys and I also got it for 65 dollars canadian on sale 15 dollars off :D
Bonus points to the CMstorm for also having a replaceable cable which the 6G does not.

Everyone I know who has gotten Rosewill had nothing bad to say about them. Haven't tried them myself but they are Costar boards, same manufacturer as Filco, CM Storm Quickfire Rapid, WASD, and I think the TT Meka line as well, if I'm not mistaken, so they should be pretty good.
|
Don't the Rosewill keyboards have a tendency to develop in issue with the mini-USB port?
|
Rosewill is perfect except for the mini usb port which was a terrible design and has a tendency to come loose. Other than that, they're great

edit:
i ended up getting the rosewill with blue switches. it is amazing. what a steal.

is it just me or are browns actually quite loud? a lot of people seem to be saying browns are bearable but im not sure if its because ive been using laptops for the past 3 years...browns seem loud to me. honestly even the blacks and reds had a bit of sound but they were on the quieter side. eventually i got browns because of the feel, but im wondering whether its supposed to be this loud.
|
The loudness of browns is mostly due to bottoming out. If you make a conscious effort to type lightly. Browns can actually be pretty silent.
|
typing lightly actually seems to make my fingers even more tired since i have to hold back my fingers =/

The only cherry switches that make a distinct noise and blues and greens. All others sound the same since the only sound is bottoming out on the backplate.

The bump on browns is audible without going anywhere near bottoming out, the keystrokes just become much much louder if you do bottom out.

Neither of those has a standard 105 key layout, so if you're used to touchtyping on a standard layout these could be slightly annoying. I was looking into a red key keyboard and got the qpad mk-50 which I'm very happy with.

Yeah, the browns are definitely louder than reds and blacks, but none of the mechanical keys are silent at all. Even reds are far louder than a normal 10 dollar keyboard.
The best-sounding keyboard to me is Topre Realforce, followed by IBM Model M. I'm not really into the sound the MX Cherry boards make even though they probably are the best switches apart from Topre's. By the way, Topre's not silent at all either, though I'd rate it to be quieter than all MX Cherries.

Hey guys, so i'm looking to pick up my first Mechanical keyboard. Would love some experienced up to date input. I've been using a Microsoft Sidewinder for a while now. Was thinking about a Black Widow but a quick browse of this thread is telling me that the Razer keyboards aren't very good?

If you are okay with Black switches I noticed ASDA are stocking Steelseries gear at the moment and this is at an outrageous price for a mechanical keyboard in the U.K.

If not I'd recommend CMStorm's stuff if you can find it in stores or online, I've got a Rapid with red switches and it's ace for the price, the TK may but the better buy if you want the numpad / backlighting though.

^+1 to anything Cooler Master. The Blackwidow is by no means bad, but other boards are just better. Razer did something odd with the MX blues on the Blackwidow. They don't feel like normal MX blues.

I got one and absolutely loved it... for about 3 months. I transport it ONE time, and the damn thing breaks. It's VERY weak where the USB cable connects to the board; there's a bunch of newegg reviews that confirm this. I love the tactile/sound (VERY LOUD btw), but I wouldn't recommend it without a 1-2yr warantee.
I replaced it with a das ultimate, which was ~30$ more expensive. It's maybe 10% quieter, which is still plenty loud. It feels slightly nicer, but maybe that's just my brain trying to justify the price
Happy hunting

here's the review on that Zalman:
This keyboard saved my life.
Reviewed by: J. Crossby (Blackburn)
I ordered this keyboard when I was off work for depression issues.
Things got worse and I eventually planned to hang myself, however before I did the deed I wanted to try out a mechanical keyboard - so the plan was to write the note using this keyboard.
I couldn't bring it to myself to end my life knowing how great this keyboard feels when typing.
I can't stop smiling, everytime I use this keyboard it feels like my fingertips are being massaged, and with the tactile feedback I hardly ever make a mis-type.
Great keyboard considering the price!
