However, going above a 560ti / 6950 is not recommended because the price to performance ratio drops drastically. For example, GTX 570/HD 6970 cost over $300, twice the ~$170 cost of GTX 560/HD 6870 - but they usually perform around 50% better at most.

I don't want to skimp out and buy a crappy one if I'm overclocking. GTX 560 sounds solid ![]() For SSD, do you recommend getting 60 or 120gb? Said friend was saying how you can split the SSD even further down for optimal performance...but it sounded complicated. I already have a 650W Corsair TX from earlier. Is this enough? I also have 8gb of RAM which should be good. Total cost was around 1.4k so. That cooler's just quiet, it's outdated and overpriced. Is your RAM rated at 1.5v? 1.65v might have problems working properly with sandybridge. Your PSU is more than enough. Also don't care about splitting SSDs or whatever that's silly. This mobo should work at 90$: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130576 The CPU is good at 220$: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072 This GPU is good enough for playing SC2 smoothly on 1080p Ultra at 160$ with POCO926: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131378 The 64GB Crucial m4 SSD is probably enough at 95$: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148447 This is a good cooler at a good price if you don't mind rebates, 18$ after MIR(rebate's probably worth it here): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835181011 This really is all you need? That totals at around 583$ after MIR, 603 if you don't want to do that. You were going to pay 1400$? You need no storage drives? Currently 6870 can't perform at a solid FPS in 1080p in games like Metro 2033, Stalker, Crysis, but pretty much anything else should be fine except civ 5 because radeon sucks there and if you play that alot you should pick nvidia instead. Also can't absolutely max some games yes, but if you're fine with say, high quality in metro 2033 you're all set.

You pay the premium for better acoustics. It's the same thing goes for their fans. However, the A70 is decently quiet. Make sure you have the clearance for it, and any other coolers of course, since some budget cases may be a tad too small. However, there's also a ton of other $20-30 coolers that perform on par or better in all so don't limit yourself.

You could say the same about the Coolermaster Hyper 212+. There's really nothing new about coolers except for slightly better fans or a different heatpipe and grill spread. I'd say hyper 212+ is outdated and mugen3 for instance would be better but hyper 212+ is cheaper. There's this thing called a price-performance ratio. Btw zero 20-30 dollar coolers perform on par with A70 so. Btw NH-C14 is completely obsolete because it costs the same as NH-D14.

Edit: Would any of these work? Assuming the processor is a good one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157176 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138283 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813186168 - this one has a huge discount. And I'm pretty sure it's what I'm looking for, no?

This one is only 99$ though, compared to 149.99 for the other processor. If this is a good processor, could somebody find another mobo that would go with it? And would the same graphics card that he gave me http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=55409&promoid=1367 still be usable with this processor/its mobo? different architecture...different instruction sets. The amount of of calculations being done per clock cycle is going to vary from processor to processor. In this case, a stock 2400 SB is going to out-do even a OCed phenom 2 quad.

Are there any other good graphics cards I could make use of? edit: GTS 450, HD 5770 / HD 6770 (they are the same), or even HD 5750 / HD 6750 (likewise the same), for say $105 before rebate would be a good deal and would let you play on high settings fine.

Is there a difference between that and http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127586 ? Or http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml?product_id=0364080 there is also a similar one just like it from a different brand. This one is the least expensive but the same video card, I think. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130669 ...sorry for all the edits.

You'd most likely want none of those, but rather the 6770. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102941&nm_mc=EMC-IGNEFL092711&cm_mmc=EMC-IGNEFL092711-_-EMC-092711-Latest-_-DesktopGraphicsVideoCards-_-14102941-L09C $90 after rebate, $110 before. Need promo code: EMCKAHC53 Buy your motherboard at microcenter too when you buy the i5 2400 and you'll most likely get it like 66% off, if you're getting an h61 board.

It's not a deal like "get an i5 and get any motherboard this % off" but rather "buy an CPU/Mobo bundle deal and get killer savings." I've noticed Powercolor is always running on the cheaper prices, but I suspect it'd be fine. Performance wise should be identical, only things that differ are usually things like customer service, warranty, RMA policy (returning defective under warranty), how the card cools itself, ease of rebate process, etc.
