Hello I opened a threat about the computer I want to build, but didn't want to post this and open that threat until I know wich parts I'm going to buy.

I'm going to post the parts I have research so far, and hope you guys can give me some advice the budget is about 2000-3000 dollars

Case: Thermal take battle edition
keyboard: Das professional S model Cherry MX blue
Mouse: have not decided yet
Monitor x2 (I want two monitors lol): Asus MX239h
Motherboard: Asus Rampage 4 extreme
Prossesor: i7-3930k
Graphics card: Gforce 670

still missing

Power supply:
Memory:
hard drives:
and water cooling

this is my first build and please if you guys see better options or have anything I'm mission or better parts let me know thanks in advance.

Edited to write what I want the computer for: I want this computer to play games and stream movies and music in my house and to use Photoshop and video editing.

I may add I'm deployed right now and will be going back next month if there is something better coming out that is worth waiting for then tell me and I'll wait.

SB-E is a waste of money. i7's are a waste of money unless you have a niche use. Watercooling is a waste of money, its an effective form of cooling but its more of an enthusiasts hobby; and all-in-ones are beyond stupid. GTX 700 series comes out next month.

Haswell comes out in June, if it's possible for you to wait until then then do so.

There is oh so solid questions in the the OP questionaire that gives us an idea what you plan to do with the computer/when you plan to build.

Giving us incomplete information will give incomplete answers.

Yes you want an i5 if you plan to stream.

Hi,

I was wondering if you could set up a SLI with two different GPUs? For instance a gtx460 and a gtx560 ti? Or do they have to be the same card?

The only way I could imagine it working is + Show Spoiler [Really bad idea for most people] +
flashing the BIOS of the 560 down to a 460. Even that wouldn't work ideally, most likely. Or another way I've heard of and won't be linking here. Even if you can force it to happen, without some serious work, I doubt you could avoid nasty stuttering with AFR.

Most people will actually tell you stuttering is "terrible" in any SLI rig, but the graphs they base this off of tend to be prone to some interpretation errors, and you have to force specific scenarios to really make it significant; if you're running proper SLI (good cards for the resolution and settings) you'll get enough FPS to keep frametimes short enough that stuttering will be pretty much invisible.

If I haven't made this clear enough, while there's some technically possible-ish ways to try and get around the inabity, they involve modifications that can void warranties, and potentially cause some significant problems.

To see compiled, compared benchies, anandtech.

If you want to GET good benchies, you can use cinebench and 3dmark, although getting relevant info out of those can be tricky without some knowledge of the limitations.

thank you for a very clear explanation! I'll probably have to upgrade my graphics card times 2 now T_T

Can you elaborate on this? Because if your only going to use the computer for a month then there is no reason to buy one now (unless you can take it with you?).

SB-E is sandy bridge E, which is the high end family of processors that the 3930K belongs to. They require special, expensive motherboards, and unless you are doing really high end computer work like ridiculous 3d modeling, global weather simulations, or running 20 virtual machines, it won't perform any better than a high end normal ivy bridge processor like the 3770K or the 3550K both of which are much cheaper.

Also, with that budget you're better off spending more on the monitor, and getting a nice chair. Instead of two 1080p screens you should just get one really nice 2560x1440 screen, or even a 2560x1600 one, imho.

If you end up getting a 2560 x 1440/1600 monitor and want to overclock I would go with:

i5-3570k
Mid range Z77 board (ASRock extreme4/6, Gigabyte UD3/5, MSI G45/GD55)
Cooler Master Hyper 212+/EVO heatsink
8GB DDR3-1600
GTX 780/770 if they are out in time, if not then a GTX 670/HD7970
128GB SSD for OS and games (OCZ Vector, Samsung 840/840 Pro, Plexor M5S)
1TB or however much storage you need HDD
A quality Power Supply such as a Rosewill Capstone
Case, its up to you
DVD burner
Win7/8 (if needed)

Should cost around $1250(with win7/8).

I'm not a monitor or chair expert, but I know the dell ultrasharps are often recommended, like this one. http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&sku=225-4015&redirect=1. I know with these high pixel monitors some are less good for gaming due to input lag, so make sure to read a few reviews on which ones work for best for gaming. But especially if you are doing photoshop work, higher end monitors with good color fidelity make an amazing difference.

For chairs, the Herman Miller Aeron is often recommended, although I think there are slightly cheaper options out there that are as good. I've also heard good things about the Herman Miller Mirra, and the Ergo Human chair.

Thanks for the reply

alQahira I check the monitor what size would you recommend for gaming mostly SC
the chair looks great too.

iTzSnypah I'm going with the thermal take battle edition for the case with that build do you think I'll be able to run sc2 at the highest settings no problem and maybe a game like crisis?

I bought this RAM http://lb.hardwareversand.de/1600 Low Voltage/48850/8GB-Kit Corsair Vengeance Low Profile schwarz PC3-12800U CL9.article

and Asrcock Pro3 Z77 mobo and a 3570k,

The RAM is apparently 1600mhz, but shows up as 1333mhz in the BIOS. Is there a reason for this? Should I change this to 1600mhz?

Thanks!

Probably close to a hundred cases if you think 800D is in the same category as a Cosmos II.

They're both enormous. Yes, the Cosmos is bigger of the two, but that doesn't make 800D small, either. Just about every other case I've looked around for looks much smaller than both of these. I prefer the look of 800D to the Corsair II, but I don't want hotswap bays and the 800D doesn't have all that much in the way of drive bays. The Lian-Li's are all kind of dull cubes that are really unappealing. The 900D doesn't seem to be coming out any time soon.

Hence the question.

The only point of something that big is to fit huge radiators or maybe for aesthetics (or difficulty of moving / stealing), pretty much. The extra size is a liability for air cooling, though that is sometimes quite overcome by sticking huge fans or lots of them inside. You looking at an option in this range seriously?

Aside from Lian Li options, customs, boutiques, and the really garish stuff, there is Silverstone TJ11, Enermax Fulmo GT, and NZXT Phantom 820 (also Switch 810, which has same frame I think). Actually, those may be questionable in their own rights.

I'm seriously considering it, yes. I'm still on the fence about learning the black art of water cooling. I'm not really constrained by budget, so I'm doing a lot of research on what my options are before I make any kind of decision.

The Enermax Fulmo GT looks the best of the ones you named. I'm partial to the darker colors (black, dark grays, etc.) and really dislike the bright colors like white. At a glance it doesn't seem like there's very much room on the "rear" side for the cables to sit.

Ok I've change a couple of things so far I have this

Monitor: BenQ XL2420t. 399
hard drive: WD green 2TB
SSD: Samsung electronics 840 pro series
Memory: Corsair vengeance 8 GB
Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 EVO
Mother board: AS Rock LGA 1155 DDR3
CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K
Power: Rosewill Capstone series 45OW 80 plus gold.
Graphics Card: wating on the Gforce770
keyboard: DAS Professional brown switches.
Case: ThermalTake Level 10 GT Battle Edition

question will a 16 gb of memory make a big difference when it comes to performance?
can anyone recomend a monitor for photoshoping video editing?

I was recomended a monitior with this resolution by:

Most of the monitors I've seen are in the 1000 dollar range anything a little cheaper and what brand would be best
from what i've seen people recomend the dell sharp alot

any advice or opinions are welcome

thanks in advance

There's still a few more months until the GTX 700 series so not sure why you're waiting on this and not Haswell as well. You also need to be specific when you are seeking purchasing advice as there's more than a dozen Asrock LGA 1155 boards, Corsair Vengeance, and so on. Otherwise, our advice sort of doesn't matter.

You're spending $300 on a case, $400 on the GPU, paying premium for Corsair Vengeance, and a 840 Pro. Surely, you can spare $1000 on a good monitor. A monitor is much more significant than a case so If you can't then maybe you need to reconsider your priorities and reallocate your budget properly? As for the monitor, the Dell Ultrasharp U2713HM, U2711, U2410, and ASUS P248Q would be some options to consider.
