Computer Build Help!
Hey guys, I am looking to build a computer for around 700 dollars (I do not need a monitor, mouse or keyboard)
For my resolution I don't usually mind using a smaller one like 1024 × 768.
I will be using it only for gaming. I have a laptop already that takes care of all of my school work and other such things. I would like to play most current games on medium-high settings, and still be able to play games that are being released in the near future at decent settings. I have always played most games on the very lowest settings possible and would love to have a chance to see them at something a little higher!
I will be willing to upgrade it as early as 6 months in and no later than a year after building it
I plan on building it within the next 6 weeks
Overlocking is something that I would possibly look into, but not a deal breaker.
I will need to get an operating system, but that does not need to factor into the cost
I have no plans to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire
I would like to purchase my parts from newegg, but would be open to other websites as well. I live in the United States
I am not a super computer noob, and I feel like I will be able to handle constructing this myself. I have many friends who have built computers before, so if I need help I will be able to get it. The key thing is I want something that will be decent/good (not the end all be all of gaming though) and will be able to be upgraded easily in the future. I would prefer to not have to upgrade the motherboard/cpu if possible and would like a combo that will last for while. I would not mind upgraded the memory and graphics cards.
I will also say that harddrive space is not a massive concern of mine, I will get a 2nd one if I feel the need but I have always managed fine on 500gigs or less.
If anyone is willing to help me get started on this summer project it would be much appreciated!

Posted one before but due to some things that came up I wasnt able to build it in time. I've seen there is some new stuff out since then and want to see what you guys think I should get. Im still kinda new to this. Thanks for the time and help!
What is your budget? $800-$1100
What is your resolution? 1920-1080
What are you using it for? Gaming, SC2, LoL, Skyrim, Diablo 3 and probably some streamin
What is your upgrade cycle? About 2+ years
When do you plan on building it? Within 3 weeks!
Do you plan on overclocking? Never done it before but I plan on doing it. Been doing some research on it.
Do you need an Operating System? Yes.
Do you plan to add a second GPU for SLI or Crossfire? I'm not really sure, if I need to then yes.
Where are you buying your parts from? Whatever site is cheaper and more reliable. Heard a lot of good feedback on newegg.
Thanks again!

This will run Everything you said on max at 1080p/Ultra and I would choose the 3450 over the 2400 and use the saved money for a new 16x9 monitor eventually.

Do you guys realize that there exist such things as B75-chipset motherboards that were released right before Ivy Bridge alongside Z77, H77, and Z75? And that these are cheaper than the others, support Ivy Bridge processors, have SATA3, and have USB3 (and often even a front panel USB3 connection through the chipset as well)?

I didn't click all the links to check prices, since it doesn't make much sense to use newegg.ca when alternatives like NCIX based in Canada have more warehouses up there, do price matching, and are superior overall.
Anyway, P8Z68-V Pro is pretty high end (needlessly so unless you know wtf you're going to do with all the extra features) but needs a BIOS update to work with Ivy Bridge, Hyper 212 Plus already comes with serviceable thermal paste, 16GB of RAM only really makes sense for some applications like running many virtual machines or rendering, that 850W power supply is decent but overpriced and 650W is already way overkill even if you want to run two GTX 560 Ti, Antec 1200 is unnecessarily large and kind of expensive and overkill in ways not really useful, and you don't need a fast HDD like a Caviar Black if you already have a large SSD to run all your programs.
That sentence was going to be shorter, but there were a lot of issues to address. x_x

You need to basically swap out everything.
Z68 does not natively support Ivybridge, you'd want a P8Z77-V for a 3570k. Though both the P8Z77-V anad P8Z68-V Pro are high-end boards so I doubt you even have the need for these.
You don't need AS5 and even if you wanted aftermarket TIM, AS5 is not a good option at $13 + $10 shipping, lol...
If you don't know what a Caviar Black provides over a Caviar Blue, don't get it.
A full tower case is not necessary and even if you wanted one for whatever reason, the Twelve Hundred v3 sucks.
850w of power is not needed even for a shitty GTX 560 Ti SLI configuration with everything overclocked. A 650w unit already offers plenty of headroom and there are superior choices to that of a Silent Pro.
Everything is overpriced since it's Newegg, you can easily shave $200-$300.

What I mean is that the only reason the Gene is a decent motherboard is because it can do SLI/Crossfire properly. Can the TJ08 even hold two GPUs if you've got hard drives inside the system?

The layout is inverted, remember? Hard drives interfere with a thick CPU cooler (well the fan, if you have one blowing into it) and possibly some retardo-tall RAM, not the GPU area.

Gene is also for e-peen warz CPU overclocks though, so maybe that's what the goal was. I'm never really convinced by SLI/Crossfire with that kind of spacing (on air cooling) anyhow, though.

My main concern about building a gaming pc is mainly overheating or destroying £1,200.00's worth of hardware =/ There's alot less pressure when its £300 lol

Unless you play at 2560x1600, 5760x1080, or some other high resolution, you do not need to spend £1200 for a gaming computer.
Overheating only happens with improper installation and poor maintenance.
Everything you mentioned (2700k, 3820, GTX 580, 16gb of memory) is a waste of money. You don't even have a 1080p monitor...

My main concern about building a gaming pc is mainly overheating or destroying £1,200.00's worth of hardware =/ There's alot less pressure when its £300 lol You could spend literally half that on a PC that would do all the stuff you listed.
What are you using it for? Gaming (Starcraft 2, LoL, few other single player games) Streaming (Mainly Starcraft 2) Watching Dual streams (one stream per monitor) website work Photoshop
You could upgrade to a monitor with a higher resolution too, and still have an insane ammount of money leftover, in comparison to buying a pre-built.

What I mean is that the only reason the Gene is a decent motherboard is because it can do SLI/Crossfire properly. Can the TJ08 even hold two GPUs if you've got hard drives inside the system? Yes. The layout is inverted, remember? Hard drives interfere with a thick CPU cooler (well the fan, if you have one blowing into it) and possibly some retardo-tall RAM, not the GPU area. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/oS30N.jpg) Gene is also for e-peen warz CPU overclocks though, so maybe that's what the goal was. I'm never really convinced by SLI/Crossfire with that kind of spacing (on air cooling) anyhow, though.
That's right, its the hard drive clearance being the issue and not the GPUs. I still have no idea why you'd pick the Gene but I guess if you're posting some badass build here, you probably want to get into those benchmark score wars, which is more than fair enough.

Icky gross dual slot SLI right on top of eachother. Melty shit. Ugh.

The hard drive should be pretty similar, so go with whatever you want. Seagate somewhat recently acquired Samsung's hard drive department; Samsung used to make the Spinpoint (F3, F4, etc.), and some people liked those more than the Seagate Barracuda line.
As long as you don't increase the voltage on the GTX 560 Ti, add several more hard drives, and seriously stress test everything (gaming is okay), 300W is plenty for that. The GPU takes well under 200W normally in any scenario, while the CPU is under 50W at full load with the integrated graphics off, and everything else uses under 50W as a very safe estimate.
Most retail 300W power supplies are kind of optimistically rated and shouldn't be trusted with that kind of computer, but the HuntKey Jumper Gold is pretty good: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4069/huntkey-300w-80plus-gold/1

Ahh, okay then, the 300w fan sounds like it'll suit me just fine. And I'll probably go for the SATA III hard drive to finish it off. Thanks for the help.
