I tested my comp on high and ultra.
It runs high pretty much just like medium, nice and smooth. I didn't get into any huge battles, but 2v2 and ffa play seemed fine.
I ran ultra as well. It runs, but if you're anal about performance like I am, there is a slight difference. I didn't check fps or anything, but it's enough of a drop that it's playable, but not as smooth

cost a pretty penny but it can hold its own with most desktops out there. Specs sound like Alienware or custom build...I envy you

portability or power. Buying a laptop with the goal of "being able to play on ultra in sc2" is ridiculous
Not really. Thats kind of ignorant.
Not really, laptops are not as powerful as desktops. If you do get a laptop that can handle SC2 on ultra it will be a crazy price because you are paying for power as well as portability. Desktops are not too portable so that lowers the price as well.

If I'm looking to get a laptop for school mainly but can also play SC2 what should I go for?
|
I have an HP Envy 15 and I can play sc2 with all settings on ultra at 1920x1080.
Specs: Intel Core i5-540m (2.53Ghz) ATI Mobility Radeon 5830 4GB Ram 500gb Toshiba HDD Windows 7 Ultimate
|
Similar to guy above, Envy 15
But here you can't customise and it's i7-720 and 4830
Plays it pretty damn well, not wholly used to playing on a laptop yet but I'll deal with it
I usually play on high

So I have a question about whether or not my laptop can run SC2, and on what settings.
It's a two year old Lenovo T61. I use mainly for school. Specifications below:
Windows Vista Business (SP1)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 @ 2.50 GHz 2.50 Ghz Memory: 3GB (32 bit OS)
Graphics Card: NVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M Video Memory: 128MB
Only 120 GB disk, though. I keep all my stuff on some huge external HDs, so I didn't think getting a big HD was useful (again, I bought this laptop because I intended for it to last me through four years of college)
Please let me know! Thanks

I got the Samsung R780 17 inches i5-440m (2.4ghz, 2.66 with turbo) 4gb ram geforce 330M
I think i got it for 917$ or something after tax and everything.

To use my Inspiron 1420 that I got three years ago as a data point:
Windows Vista Home Premium C2D T5500 @ 1666 mHz 2.0 GB RAM GeForce 8400M GS
It runs SC2 fine in 1v1 (haven't tried the other modes) on Medium, though I usually turn it down to Low. It's remarkable how well it runs actually.

I'm worried about my GPU. Is it strong enough?

everything set to ultra, 1080p resolution silky smooth, the laptops cooling is SUPER amazing itll blow all that hot air out but wont let the laptop get hot at all (the bottom gets a little warm right by the fan otherwise its perfect)
I also have the same laptop. I hadn't purchased SC2 yet but this sounds very promising.
Also, found this link today, but I'm not sure how accurate it is. Gonna give it a try when I get home from work. http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/CYRI/

i have a HP DV8 1099eo
CPU: Intel Core i7 Q720 @ 1.66ghz RAM: 4gb DDR3 1333mhz GPU: Nvidia Geforce GT230m 1gb HDD: 1tb sata drive 7200 rpm Screen: 18.4 inch (1920x1080 - 16x9 ) OS: Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
This laptop is amazing for media/gaming, the graphics card isn't the absolute top but it handles SC2 good. Because of the extremely high resolution for a laptop screen and the graphics card, i can't play SC2 at maxed settings, but it handles medium-high on full HD and ultra on lower resolutions.
( usually i max all the settings that requires high CPU because the CPU in this laptop is amazing, and i keep the GPU intensive settings a little lower to avoid lagg.) Also it's very pleasent to play games on because of the 18.4inch screen size and the keyboard is full size with numpad, and it also has really good speakers ( altec lansing 2.1, with an actual subwoofer on the bottom of the computer)

asus g73jh-tz038v
intel core i7 720qm @1.6 ghz with 4 cores and 1/1/6/9 turbo boost rates. (ie with 3 or 4 cores active, each runs at 1.73 ghz, with 2 cores active they run at ~ 2.4 ghz, with one core active it runs at ~ 2.8 ghz) 8gb ddr3 ram 1333 mhz (dont know the timings) ati radeon mobility hd 5870 with 1 gb ddr5 vram 2*500 gb hdds with 7200 upm 17.3" fullhd display with 1920x1080 pixels blueray drive
as long as there arent too many units on the screen, it runs sc2 at over 60 fps with all settings maxed. with shaders set to low and texture to only high (looks more pleasant than ultra imho...), the fps dont even drop below 40 during very large battles in 1v1. only during huge battles in 2v2 or higher, the cpu becomes a limiting factor and the framerates drop down to some 20ish, but still acceptable imho.
what i like most about this laptop is how silent its fans are. very very nice. and as this thing is intended as a desktop replacement anyway it perfectly fits my needs.
another pro of laptops instead of desktop pcs is power consumption. yes, powerful desktop replacement laptops cost quite a lot, but compared to desktop pcs with the same power, they will save about 100€ of energy costs per year where i live and with my consumption (using my pc/laptop quite a lot).

I'm playing on a macbook pro 2.2ghz 8600M GT and I have to have everything on minimum except shaders (med) AND lowest resolution and I still have lag during the campaign missions. Does anyone else experience this?

My advice: Don't get Asus G51J (I can't run it even on medium)
Intel Core i7-720QM (1.6GHz, 1333MHz FSB, 6MB Cache) up to 2.93Hz NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260M 1GB GDDR3 memory 4GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM (2GB x 2) Two 320GB Seagate 7200RPM Hard Drives
Anyone else having this problem?
|
Intel Core i5 520M @ 2.40GHz NVIDIA GeForce 310M 7200rpm HDD 4 (3) GB RAM but running 32bit W7
I can run on close to medium settings fairly well, using 1280x720 resolution.
