Lenovo Y550P

Intel Core i7 720Q
4 GB DDR3
Nvidia Geforce 240M 1 GB
External 1680x1050 LCD connected via HDMI

It can run ultra at 20-30 fps, but struggles as unit counts get higher. I prefer medium. Even on medium or low, it chokes on 3v3 and 4v4 once all the players get 200/200 armies.

Intel core2 t8300 2.4ghz
3gb ram
Nvidia Geforece 8600M GT
1280x800 res

I play on a mixture of medium and low settings and get a good 60 fps most of the time. Drops to maybe 30-40 during big battles in 1v1.

There really isn't a huge difference between medium-ultra to be honest. The sacrifice on fps is definitely not worth it if you want to play online and be competitive.

My older brother has a 1st generation intel based macbook pro with bootcamp running vista, for some reason he can only run it only on low and its very laggy at the beginning of the game, and then it has random lag spikes and it gets laggy as hell whenever theres a battle. I'm pretty sure it's because he only has 1gb of ram.

yea thats a very old model the second generation macbook pro, which is what i have has no lag. the spec requirements for macs are higher than pc's so that is part of it. also using bootcamp for sc2 is a terrible idea. bootcamp has been creating problems for sc2 forever. like i said its not ideal but it certainly does the job.

Will the most basic model of MacBook Pro of the latest generation run the game smoothly at Medium? I'll be more than happy if it accomplishes that and don't have to spend an extra $500 for the icore model.

I run on low because i don't care much about graphics, and never have breaks or slowdowns except with over 800 units.

Will a geforce 310m (1gb ddr3) be able to run SCII at max settings? A friend I know expressed his doubts citing that 310m is a low end gcard...

My laptop:

Intel Core2Duo t9400 @ 2.54
4 gigs of DDR2 RAM
9600 GS 1GB VRAM

I rock the game with high textures, 3D Unit portraits, high effects, 1440x 900 resolution, but set shaders to I believe it was low. Looks very good, but like a totally different game than at higher shaders. Gets 60 FPS.

Starcraft II is very CPU dependent. My old 8800 GTS 640 MB couldn't run it maxed, but could run most things high enough that the stuff that was off, like SSAO, don't really look that different.

I finally decided to purchase the Asus G37JH after hours upon hours of extensive research. this laptop is probably one of the top contenders for best laptop of 2010. Specs are

Intel i7 720QM clocked at 1.6ghz with turboboost it can jump up to I believe 2.8 ghz
17.3 Inch screen
6gb of ddr3 1066mhz
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5870 1gb gddr5 1600x900 resolution

I'm pretty sure this beast of a machine can run sc2 on atleast high with maxed settings I mean this laptop has the ATI5870 the best card out right now aside from the GTX480 from nvidia which is less powerful compare to the 5870. The resolution is only 1600x900 but you can get the higher Resolution if you can spend a lil more. I hear the low resolution is actually better for gaming though. The laptop has a sleek design that has something to do with a f71 jet fighter. With 2 big fans on the backside of the laptop it can disperse alot of air fast and quick. The keyboard (from what I've seen in pictures) is the new island type I've been fond of ever since I saw them on some Sony vaio laptops. Its got the full keyboard with number pad as well. The laptop has a few models so the pricing will vary anywhere from $1200 to $1700. I purchased mine from cowboom after I found out there was a sale on one for 850 +tax. unfortunately I was too late and the price went up to 1000 but you still save $200. the downside to this is that its a refurbished laptop so the only thing you can do Is order it and cross your fingers. if the one I get is messed up ill just return it and get one from Bestbuy at for $1200 which includes the 1 year manufacturers warranty.

The laptop should be here by Monday, ill write a review about it a few days after I get it. I can't wait!!

I hate island keyboards, especially for gaming. >.> The feel isn't great and the travel is too short.

Anyways, my Ideapad Y460 is absolutely amazing and runs SC2 well.

I run it on medium with no hitches or anything. But when I usually play, I go for Low because it gives me more fps.

Wow something must be wrong with my laptop then...I can't even play with everything on LOW..even 1v1 games, as soon as there are a few units out (100 supply each) my computer freeze frames me..

I have:
2.26ghz core 2 duo
3GB Ram
GeForce 9600m GT
XP Home
300gb HD (unsure of RPM)
any resolution seems to suck, unless someone has a recommendation?

My laptop can easily cope with quite high settings in SC2 (although lagspikes occur on high settings) but the problem is that it gets overheated and turns itself off. Im sure you can understand the frustration of losing a game because the computer turns itself off when you had the lead :p
Does anyone have any tips for avoiding this? I've attempted to put some books under it on each side to lift it from the table and it has helped a bit but the problem remains.

have you tried a laptop cooler? you can find some cheap ones for around 20 dollars at your local bestbuy
