Thank you for this!

Being able to customize hotkeys is a standard feature in any modern RTS, it should have been there from day 1. Could someone implement a grid layout for all races and upload it to this site?

It's my 1st release. In future i want to improve it:
- add button names;
- add tooltips;

Blizzard will allow change hotkeys for players 100%! Now if you open GameStrings.txt you can see 3 types of single action, it's:
- original SC2 (Example: Stalker=S);
- oldstyle SC1 (Example: Stalker_SC1=D);
- for lefthanders (Example: Stalker_NRS=L);
As you can see on release SC2 in game options we will have to change what type of hotkeys we want to use. Changing hotkeys isn't cheat, it's like to change controls in Quake3, CS, etc...

Can you actually rebind 1 through 0 with this method? I would love to rebind 7, 8, 9, and 0 to more comfortable positions on the left hand side of my keyboard.

Agreed. It works the same way in Warcraft 3. There is a file CustomKeys.txt. Just modify it and check a box in options. The only thing we need in SC2 is an adequate in-game GUI to modify it instead of a checkbox and a txt file.

is there a gamestring.txt with the european qwert asdfg yxcvb layout? because i would like to change just Attack (actually on T) and Cancel (actually on ESC) because they suck balls and make no sense.
after 2 years i reached it = marine icon

He meant the hotkeys after you selected a larva, i.e. morph into drone, overlord, etc.

Blizzard has even sticked a guide on how to customize hotkeys on their own forums, of course it's allowed, they will even provide an option in game to switch it easier.

A game simply cannot be released in 2010 without allowing you to switch keys, it would be like playing an FPS with the arrow keys, highly ineffective.

I dislike how you call this "without bugs" when it clearly has some bugs that makes it unusable. For example I do not see a way to bind "select all warpgates" (default w), which is one of the most used hotkeys as Protoss.
I can no longer rest under the tree of wisdom, since you have axed down the roots feeding it.

I think it was Dustin Browder (but maybe another Blizzard employee) that said in-game shortcut keys/hotkeys editing was in the long-term plans. As I wrote in the OP, we haven't found where that hotkey is coded/binded yet...


@Tiler : in your next update, you might want to fix the typo about the terrans (it's written "Terrain" instead of "Terran")

And do you think it would be possible to have a function that will load the SC1 or NRS settings automatically??

Thanks for making this program!
Is it possible to alter the spots of the buttons on the grid ?
I use grid based key bindings qwert etc... but I want my probes to have the build buttons at the top of the grid, at the "Q" and "W" positions.
If you can make this possible, it would have been awesome

Yes, I believe that would be possible, you would have to extract the file UnitData.xml from Base.SC2Data > GameData using the MPQ Editor, then look up where the buttons are written in the file and replace the rows and columns with the values you want (I believe the rest is the same procedure).

Don't forget to make the changes both ways (if you replace the "move" button with "attack" you have to move the "move" button elsewhere), also that the top row and left column have the value "0" (so, it goes 0,1,2 for rows and 0,1,2,3,4 for columns).

really apreaciate your work. Since I use the german version i have this grid thing, which is totally ok for me. The only thing i would adjust is the "select all warpgates" button, which is nonexistent in the german version.

I am protoss only and this is kind of a disadvantage compared to the other lang. versions.

Please keep searching for how to adjust this select all warpgates thing! Would be great for me and all other german users to have the possibility to use this.

this is very handy for unit abilities when playing all races..
IdrA: stalkers actually do negative damage. when you shoot a marine with a stalker it gains health.

It does not seem to work anymore. I tried it out before the latest patch and then it worked, but now when I do the same process again it does not work.

I have gone through the process several times and it seems to work correctly, except when I am in the game the hotkeys are just the default ones. I am using the english EU version of the client.
