It's kinda confusing since it's called "Open Bracket Qualifier".
Actually the on-site open bracket is only for regular IEM tournaments, no previous World Championship IEM event has had one up until now.

Kind of sad SK didn't make it in the end, otherwise really happy, all the players had sick runs taking down some big names, looking forward to IEM Katowice.

I hope IEM feels that the competitiveness of getting another three Koreans through the qualifiers is worth the lower viewer interest that a tournament with so little foreigner participation will engender.

I feel like you are arguing semantics. The players who qualified deserve to be there. Whether they are the "best" is irrelevant and too hard to determine anyway. Honestly, there's no such thing as "the best" until we see a "SC2 Bonjwa" which we haven't and I doubt we ever will.

I'm a foreigner and I'd say having better players is more attractive than just having some foreigners that will 100% lose in the first round. Maybe not everyone feels this way but I feel your view is not neccessarily representative of how all foreigners feel. It's always more exciting to have a foreigner go far, but it's never exciting to see foreigners get trampled.

I just wanted to bring up the good old Stephano vs Naniwa rivalry and remind how they used to trash talk, then again one could argue that there could be much more interesting players there than oz and revival which no1 has heard off after they got released by EG.

You're definitely right that there are plenty of people here on TL happy that it will be almost solely Korean players. But I mainly care about the viability of SC2, and I think it's fair to say that making a format where the tournament participants will almost exclusively be Korean is not helpful for the viewer numbers, nor healthy for the SC2 scene. Fewer casual fans will care and teams will have to hire Korean players in order to have any visibility. It's a vicious circle, in my opinion.

No, its not their fault. Its just sad. Very sad.

No, its not that simple. At soccer WCS their are teams form africa playin, and i like it. Teams from asia playin - and i like it. But they are not the best in the world. And their is noone who wants only Europe Teams + Brasil and Argentina at WCS. Its a mix, and thats how it should be. If you use the word "simple", think about it first... Cause as you see, one can have diffrent opinions about the topic!

But then again, what do you do? You can only artificially keep foreigners and Koreans away from each other for so long until they inevitably meet again and the end result will not change. We cannot possibly exile all Korean pros to the Korean penisula and tell them to play there either, first and foremost because there's nothing to support them there. I undarstand your notion of watching foreiner players duke it out with Koreans - I would like to see that very much also, but on equal footing, not as cannon fodder. It's in every foreign SC2 pro's best intrest to try and mimick whatever it is that Koreans are doing and try to measure to their standards, as long as they're unable to, we'll see tournaments look like this.
Edit: Went full rant mode but the most important thing is that I have tickets for March 15 and 16 and I'm happy to be able to see all of those players :D

I don't think soccer is an appropriate comparison. Mainly because SC2 is a 1v1 sport, while soccer is a team sport and in case of the World Championship a nations-sport. I'd rather compare it to tennis, tbh.
There are many ATP/WTA tournaments (like with IEM) and at end of the year there's the world finals with the 8 best players of the season. If these 8 players turn out to be exclusively Swiss ( :-P ), so be it. At the Grand Slam tournaments everyone's allowed to participate, but the respective national players got some kind of Wildcards. I think this format works better as a comparison

The only reason why foreigner fans care less about Koreans than foreign players is because 95% of Koreans do not speak English or are too shy to even attempt. Even Taeja (who should be relatively fluent in terms of Korean progamer standards after years of playing on a foreign team and going to foreign tournaments) is shy to use English.
If all the Koreans spoke perfect English, this would not be an issue.

Or just ping-pong man, ping-pong. Every national team is mostly Chinese. Wonder if their community has even half as much outcry about it?
