More than any other streamer so far, I think he is organizing his viewers to support him. Combined with a broader familiarity due to his time spent streaming for other communities (such as LoL), he's doing well early on in the voting.
Wow respect to Destiny for your popularity despite your expertise in douchebaggery. Abandons the starcraft 2 scene after a doomsaying campaign spitting on the game that made him successful to capitalize on the popularity of some casual game. Proceeds to comes back after failing to replicate his initial sc2 success in said casual game and blizzard is actually nominating him in year end awards when he played another game from rival developer half the year? And its not just a poll for !@#$s and giggles its actually a pretty penny on the line here? And his nomination is coming at the expense of other far more deserving streamers who actually stuck with this 'dying game' through thick and thin? Kudos Destiny best capitalist in starcraft if this were politics you'd be president.
Stop bitching about Destiny, holy fuck. Better than the 'never say anything negative about the game' crowd.
He went to play LoL, big deal? Maybe he enjoyed it more for a while, maybe he got bored of it and came back to play SC2. You aren't contractually bound to stick with a game, especially if you're not actually a progamer.
It's the principal. He's doing what's in his best interests I don't blame him I applaud his success. Good for him. I'm more concerned with blizzard's thought process. Also, where the fuck is basetradetv?
jaedong my favorite among those by far. i dont like all the talking streamers do. commentary and polarizing music are the two worst features of an SC2 stream for me. just show good SC2 games and im happy

I'm honestly disappointed. Do you guys want new comers to see SC2's best stream and have them go to Destiny first? If you feel he's the best SC2 can offer then cast that vote.
Of all the names on the list, Destiny is by far the most prolific and dedicated streamer. He has made it his main profession to stream. It's not a poll for "Most important SC2 personality", I hope people bear that in mind.
What you bolded is the part that confuses me. Are you genuinely saying he is the most prolific and dedicated sc2 streamer of 2013? Can you really say he put in more effort then Day9 to the sc2 scene? Considering Day9 got featured in Forbes for his work in sc2 I'm going to give you some time to develop a well worded reply to this.
I certainly would put destiny before day9.
He is a dedicated streamer. You might not like his content, his games aren't the best quality but I don't think anyone can argue that his stream has the most content.
He interacts a tonnes with chat. He would raise up debates of politics or economics and invite the qualified people from chat to debate on Skype, while he is playing sc2 and acting as a host. He streams his chats with his friends like desrow and catz. He shares a lot about his life, too much sometimes. He talks hot topics like bitcoin. He is controversial.
When people tune in his stream, they are not expecting hardcore sc2 contents nonstop or top level game play etc. They are expecting more than just sc2 or games.
That's why he is popular. No other stream (at least as far as sc2 goes) provides such a rich experience.
Most dedicated sc2 streamer. He is a sc2 streamer and he certainly is dedicated to his streaming which is why his stream has so much content. His stream is not the most dedicated to sc2 and I think that's what you don't like about him being ranked 1?
aren't those great reasons why he shouldnt be winning? you're praising him specifically for doing things that aren't playing a blizzard game. and in addition to that, he spent most of 2013 playing LoL didn't he? the majority of his 2013 stream went to one of blizzard's biggest competitors. the main appeal of his stream is his personal life, not the gameplay. i dont have anything against that and i like destiny but for the purposes of this vote, he seems like a really inappropriate candidate

I love Jaedong's stream just for strength of games. Sometimes I enjoy the analytical guys, Artosis was always good at properly breaking down near enough every game he played afterwards, but equally sometimes I just want to marvel at a Korean pro's mechanical chops.
Speaking of music, your good self has some of the best music out there! Argh so many good streamers
I agree with music being such a polarizing thing because everyone has different tastes. I remember jinro had some of the worst music I've ever heard in my life. Was always some swedish rap/metal or something like that. I forget exactly what genre, but he routinely posts similar links to songs on his twitter and each one is just as awful as I remember on his stream.

Yeah, like that Destiny guy. The only reason he's on the list is because of how much he sucks up to Blizzard all the time.

Also the arguments, reasoning and hate in here are the epitome of how to apply double-standards.
45,000 to be divvied amongst the winners probably means its substantially more than a popularity contest in theory if not in practice.
Some people care enough about the scene to devote a few seconds of our time posting our bewilderment about apparent appropriation of these funds. If that constitutes 'butt-hurt' by your definition so be it. To each his own, we'll agree to disagree. Hey, if Destiny is charismatic enough by your definition to be more worthy than other people who were actually involved in sc for the majority of the calender year then more power to the guy. He was always relatively well spoken, articulate, and rather insightful when he wants to be (the other times... well...) nothing against him personally. Something against blizzard though for nominating a guy that only came back to our little corner of the esports world in sep winning an award for a calender year. I'm more inclined to worry how out of touch blizzard is with our community to do such a thing and if they can't handle something as 'miniscule' as this, as you implied, are they to handle much more pressing issues...
I know why Destiny is so popular. He's the Justin Bieber of Sc2. So for those of you wondering the same thing, Destiny is famous for the same reason Bieber has so many Beliebers. There are many people who love those that act like trash while having no talent. However, I do not know why. It would be very helpful if someone can explain Bieber and Destiny's popularity. They are NOT handsome. If "looks" defined popularity, LiquidHero would be the most popular player in the world.
Take note: I DID NOT SAY that any of them are trash. Therefore this message does not contain personal attacks and therefore moderators should not be concerned.
Dragon, on the other hand, is the Kim Kardashian of Sc2. I can totally understand why these two are popular. Porn is a big industry...
EDIT: nvm, I just read this post. I now understand.

Not really sure, what the issue is. He has a lot of content which people respond to in differing ways, I haven't really watched him for a while but the anger of people who appear butthurt he dared to stream another game is just silly.

I guess you can see it this way, he also has been on the other side (lol) and came back because it just isn't the game for him. That would be some good marketing for blizzard there too. I am not sure if the reward is only for this year? But he certainly deserve it if it isn't only for this year since he has always always been one of the top streamers in the scene, his viewer numbers and hours streams had always been really impressive.
I don't really care too much about him switching to LoL anyway, I know many hold grudge against him because of his "SC2 is dead" talk and his switch to LoL and when he returns, he was treated as a hero because he quickly became one of the popular streamer again and people didn't like that. When he switched to LoL, I just stopped watching his stream because I find moba boring to watch.
there have not been any other streamers that made me a fan of him because of his stream (maybe except Golden since I always had been a fan of his since he streamed back in 2011 when he was in SlayerS and he was awesome back then as well) I watch a tonnes of Taeja and JD's stream as well, but that's only because I am already a fan of theirs. and if their skill level isn't this high, I won't find their stream very interesting since the main selling point is their amazing games and mechanics (JD mechanics imo, is the cleanest of all.)
Destiny for me, is the only streamer that isn't about hitting that play button again and again and again and again. He is a SC2 player, just like me, who would try out other games and talk about some hot topics with others. And I only watch SC2 stream, so I guess for me, that would qualify him as a SC2 streamer lol
The poll asks me who is my favorite sc2 streamer, well my vote goes to destiny because of all the reasons I put up earlier. I don't really ask myself what his contents are, how much of it is good for the scene, does he deserve the prize money or how much of it is sc2 related. I always tune in when he plays sc2, and I find the experience to be good enough that even if it isn't the top level sc2, it is more than enough for me to stay watching
[update]
Even IdrA didn't manage to make a living out of streaming, so let's give Destiny some more recognition for staying in the scene by more or less nothing but streaming

You seem like a reasonable guy. If you were a blizzard employee in charge of this year end event would you nominate him within this very same context for this very same award? Answer me that. Yes, no, and why? I'm curious as to why. But comparing him to Bieber is just cruel. He's way better at starcraft than bieber is at whatever he's supposed to be good at. He's polarizing to be sure but I believe he's more than capable to be a productive member of the community. But the question is he so good that he can produce content at quarter the rate of his peers and still be deserving of his piece of the 45 k pie?
