it's pretty obvious what the public want and spare us the bullshit that lurker would not be compatible with HOTS. It's called putting time into a idea and making it compatible. And if they'd add the lurker, no way zerg would have an excess of AOE.
In bw we had: lurker, defiler, mutalisk (possibly queen, ensnare). In sc2 we have: baneling, infestor, mutalisk, ultralisk?
And they had to give the ultralisk splash damage because otherwise the universe would just implode from crappiness. So we have just as much aoe compared to bw. What would be the horror of giving us another unit with AOE? You think it's impossible to balance? Nothing is impossible.
And I have to agree with people on the previous page. Do you really think that a couple of swarm hosts are going to be good at preventing an army from reaching a certain area e.i. zone control? Jezus if I had a marine marauder medic army and the zerg would have even as much as 5 or so swarm hosts defending something. I'd just stim past those fuckers and lol as the locusts explode after 10 or 15 seconds w/e the time is. Or I'd just engage one swarm of locusts, they'll die like a group of zerglings streaming in against a full bio ball. Then I'd stim and run past them and never give a shit about them again, since they have to wait another 10 seconds to spawn the next group of useless units.
Swarm host doesn't guarentee damage, which is a fatal flaw in zone controlling imo.

I don't really see the point in this. How can people already be bashing the swarm host when no one has realistically had any time to even see how it'll work out in HOTS. I would say leave this question for after the release of HOTS to see how things pan out. For all we know this could become a much more epic unit then we see atm.

Lurkers wouldn't do anything in SC2. Stimmed Marauders with Medivacs and Colossus would destroy it so hard.
SH is a cool idea but I'm not that sure it's gonna be useful. At best it feels gimmicky. The respawn time is too long for it to be really useful in a direct engagement imo. If the dmg was lowered, but HP and armor were increased along with respawn time, then it would be much more effective imo (at least from what we've seen so far, which I must admit, pretty insufficient data to make any assumptions)

swarm host is gonna really change the forge-fe metagame. i just hope they dont nerf these units to hell, but they probably will. locusts already spawn pretty seldomly imo.

This thread is terrible. Which unit is funner to play with? NO ONE here has played with them, or close to them. Which one belongs in HOTS? The Lurker doesnt because it is flat out not going to be in HOTS. Until you have actually used the unit in its final form then making a judgement is retarded and based on the past only.

You know how you can solve these issues? Give lurker extra damage versus armored (marauders) and make lurkers relevant before collusi so don't put them in hive tech.

I voted for LOTR because it was in the past and I have used it and that makes it better. The new one will be terrible and useless!

i think the swarmhost is cool and should not be underestimated, the lurker ofc is the old favorite so whatever, not that this thread will have any effect.

For a unit like this you don't really have to see a pro use it to be able to see what kind of utility it will have. Might it be balanceable? Sure. Might it even serve its purpose as a space controller? Sure. But what its lacking is a good feel for the race. Its definitly not going to add anything for spectators... Even as someone who just started watching BW vods, things like reaver drops are non existent in SC2, where you hold your breath wondering how it will play out. Even the lurker hold trick is more interesting that watching little things come slowly out of the SH back. If anything its a turn off as a spectator.

Lurkers don't do anything in BW. Stimmed Micro M&M, tanks, spider mines, vultures, goliaths, air units, dragoons, reavers, irradiate, psionic storm, observers, science vessels, etc. destroy it SOOO HARD.
See what I did there? This reasoning that Lurkers would somehow be useless in SC2 or that we can't reasonably understand the Swarm Host's applications in HotS are ridiculous. It's a burrowing brood lord that's good as an indirect pressure unit but useless as a direct attacking unit/defensive unit that can kill small groups of units. The lurker can do all of those things.

My only thing that makes me weary of the swarm host is that it doesn't do damage, it creates the potential for damage and in certain situations could be 100% useless.

You don't need a ton of play time to discern good unit design or unit application. And they at least make a statement that based on the design of the Swarm Host, it is inferior to the Lurker in terms of application versatility, imba-ness, and excitement.

Obviously if Blizzard did give in to public sentiment then they would update the lurker with an awesome new look for HOTS lol. This was an alpha model for a unit...scrapped in early 2010!

I hope Swarm Host will be as deep and versatile unit as Colossus. After 2 years since release people do magic with Colossus i hope that in 2 years swarm host will be marvelous unit.
