Because several of us were here before this became a buzz-word for SC2, and people slapping a label on things and trying to poach BW under the same umbrella by calling it all "esports", and pretending everyone is therefore pulling together for the same thing. As if somehow, absorbing our game into a larger category is something we should be happy about.

If they're intent on making the Proleague switch completely to SC2, it would probably be better for them to run a smaller BW version with reduced prizepools, and phase that out slowly over the course of a year. Migrate people over to SC2 slowly, so that you have more chance of retaining viewers. I do feel for the BW fans here, even if I'm not one myself. It's a pretty big slap in the face for them to turn round this suddenly and say "we're done catering for you as of the next tournament". As for whether this will be a good thing for SC2, time will tell. I have to say I'm still not convinced myself.

Graphics improve, but gameplay has nothing to do with technology as far as i know. By this logic, we'd better all switch over to oil rush since it was released after sc2, has better graphics and is easier to play. Or maybe we should wait for the next command and conquer

Cause i looked for current viewership numbers and literally the only definitive number I can find are the TL restreams, which hit like 12-15k from what I can see. And we should always believe EVERYTHING players who are paid money say in interviews. Do you believe Tevez when he tells you he is 100% dedicated to Man City after taking a hiatus in Argentina for 5 months? Part of your pay is to say what your sponsors, fans and team expect you to say? Would you like a player who stated in interviews that he is only there because he gets 50k a year to play a video game? I'm not saying they hate it I'm saying, they "love" this game because it allowed them to make a living doing what they love. Why wouldn't they like the next generation of that game and a new challenge? Good job being a complete dickhead with your reply, typical of a BW die-hard. Go play on ICCUP and leave the millions of SC2 players and fans alone with your negative attitude. If you would let SC2 into your heart you would see the evolution between release and now in terms of strategy and depth of gameplay. Continue to be ignorant and assume SC2 is as mindless and coinflippy as LoL. KLeep in mind SC2 is at the stage that SC1:Vanilla was at before BW, and at that time, Vanilla was a imbalanced ass game with massive problems, I know cause I played it for years. When SC2 hits LOTV, if it still dissapoints you, then maybe I will take your comments as anything but "well it was better back in the day". In 1 year when BW is no longer player professionally what are you gonna do then? Say your goodbyes now and let BW have the honorable death it deserves as the godfather of eSports. Wow alright. Let me break something down for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Starleague_(Ongamenet) Finals for Starleague now regularly attract more than 50,000 fans, and viewed nationwide on television by millions This is a fucking T.V. station. Not a little stream that gets run over the computer, but a fucking T.V. station. It has prime time viewing and regularly brings in MILLIONS of viewers for the big event. I could give two shits how many a stream on TL brings up, IT HAS NOTHING ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS. The fact that you would even try to use that as a basis of an arguement just shows uninformed and frankly deluded you are.Oh, so now interviews are fake? Yeah of course they're not going to saythey plays for the money, but that doesn't mean they aren't telling the truth. Have you actually read their interviews, or looked at their words? Hint: It's not just, "I play SC BW because it's fun." Here's a recent one with Stork. Throughout the interview he talks about how he grew up watching and playing the game, desperately wanting to be a progamer like the big names at the time. He talks about how his rivalry with the other great players is the drive the makes him try to be the best at BW, and son. Why don't you actually read it before you dismiss it as bullshit. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=322739 And really? You're going to call me out on that? Do you know how many hours of SC2 I've watched? Do you know how many GSL tickets I've purchased, or how many streams I've watched for hours on end? Do you know how many times I've stayed up all night just to see a match get played? No you don't, so don't fucking accuse me of stuff when you have no idea what you're talking about. I've been following SC2 from the Beta up until now and I've probably watched over 500 hours of SC2 altogether, if not much more. It's hard to keep count when you get to amounts that high spread over such a time. And you know what, of these 4900 posts or whatever, probably a good 3000 of them are SC2 related. SC2 is actually what brought me onto to TL. Before the game was the released I hadn't watched a proffesional BW series in over 5 years and hadn't played the game for even longer. And come on SC2 has been out for two years now, and it has had the 10+ years of BW expierence to build off. If it's still in it's "infant" stages, then it shouldn't be considered an esport. Fact is Blizzard had plenty of chances to make it great, and they botched it. If BW dies in a year, then alright. I'll say my goodbyes. I'm not deluding myself or anything, I know how it is. But that doesn't give you the right to just come in here and make up bullshit.

To me it's pretty obvious they did this out of necessity and not because they're that nice. If they did not let Blizzard do this, Blizzard would simply ditch them, if KeSPA proved to be successful, since GOMTV has no leverage here.

No video game can last forever - esports is very different to regular sports in that regard. Furthermore, with HotS close, I think SC2 will be more interesting. SC-BW, even if brillant from a mechanics standpoint sucks too much on graphics. So don't be angry, just think about that: when you are a grandpa, there might be SC5 out - but only if you can let old stuff go.

I would have to assume any negotiations blizzard does with OGN to incorporate sc2 into proleague has to also be negotiated with the sponsor of proleague, who already have the contract for the two seasons. Kind of how like GOM had to approve of blizzard to talk to OGN. edit- nevermind, Kespa works with the sponsors.

I agree in that SC2 is more modern, etc... But if a sports is watched, it should be played, and BW is watched and played.

Because you like the game ? The whole Esport lingo on TL started with Kennigit and Hot_Bid around TSL1 but Esport for the sake of Esport is retarded. It reminds me a lot of all the naive activism (political, religion, etc...). It is not about enjoying one game nowadays, it is like a religious fervor among people (for the most part they don't even play the game anymore). People should always remember that before watching streams and idolizing players (instead of their skills), they enjoyed to play the game. Now it doesn't mean that you shouldn't watch some streams but please don't become a victim of the Esport hype. You should be an individual not a fanboy. Also if you prefer one game there is no reason for you to support another game that you don't like as much just for the sake of "Esports" lol.
