Welcome, NesTea. Welcome, MVP. The IM StarCraft II legends are now representing SteelSeries. Witness them both demolish opponents this weekend at BlizzCon. - SteelSeries Facebook Page
It's great to see the best players in the world get personal sponsors when we have some lesser ones even in the NA scene with them.
I love watching both of them, so this is definitely great. Good move from SteelSeries prior to BlizzCon. Maybe we'll get some Nestea/MVP gear?

It's called hyping, take it with a grain of salt.
OT: Great to see the 2 biggest names get personal sponsorships, I hope this means that MVP is 100% to go to Providence. Steelseries makes great products and glad to see them sponsoring basicly everything sc2 recently (lol).
Not bad deal for them either, they just got their brand attached to the best players in the game.

Considering that the two of them hold 6 of what, 10 current GSL titles, an MLG Championship, and poised to not only take Blizzcan AND GSL October? I think it might be fair to call them legends.

I dunno about Yonghwa anymore, Sage is getting hit pretty hard right now

The term 'legend' for these two players seems awfully appropriate... these two players have pretty much been the best SC2 players, or atleast on the top, dominating ever since their debut, plus both are 3x GSL winners. Which is pretty huge considering how long the game has been out.
I was considering buying Razer peripherals but after this move, I'll definitely get some Steelseries Stuff. Very smart move to sponsor these amazing players!
On October 22 2011 00:09 sjschmidt93 wrote: Why don't they just sponsor the whole team? I'd love to see happy, Youngwha, seed, losira etc, at foreign events
It's not a wise business decision to sponsor a entire team immediately. Sponsoring the two best players on the team seems like a much better idea.
If the deal goes well, and co-operation between IM and SteelSeries is good, I would bet that they will extend to include most, if not all of the team.

No. They've been dominating the game for like 5-6 months. Legends such as NaDa, Flash and Jaedong have been amazing for many years. Flash won his first title when he was 15, for God's sake.

No. NesTea has been dominating for a entire year, since the GSL Open 2, which he handily won.
MVP has been pretty much hands down the best Terran in the world ever since he destroyed GSL Jan, 10 months ago.
There are 6 GSL wins between these two players, and there has only been 10 GSL's (including Open seasons).
These have been hands down, the most dominant players of their respective races since the competitive scene in Korean SC2 started up last October.
You don't have to win every major championship to be a legend.

I think his point is that "legend" carries a different meaning for anyone who has played an RTS game besides SC2. The game hasn't even been out long enough for someone to be called a legend by conventional definitions.

Not really, they've been dominating for almost a year. If they didn't win the GSL its because they weren't in the finals. Excluding the few early knock outs that don't seem to happen anymore. Also, you don't have to win your first title at 15 to be a legend.
MVP/Nestea are dominating just as hard as BW legends did if not harder, and they too were humans with slumps.

Like SK (main sponsor Steelseries) did with oGs? It's pretty obvious that Steelseries is only intrested to put their logo where the viewer numbers are and not where they could be. I don't blame them but they shouldn't get credit for stuff they don't do.

Not really. The term 'legend' is somewhat subjective. But, from my standpoint, I see both of these players as legends based on there domination of the Korean scene and other top level players for the past year +....

in sc2 there are a large number of players with 70% win rate in their matchups, whereas in bw there is only 1 guy literally.
this shows that bw talent pool is much larger and more regular. sc2 has mostly lemmings and a few outlier good players.

steelseries is sinking so much money into sc2. I feel like they sponsor multiple teams, multiple tournaments, multiple shows, multiple individual players...
smart - it gives them market saturation but I have to wonder at what point do these investments start to pay off less and less? I mean, the ROI curve isn't linear, and I have to imagine they've hit the plateau point by now, at least for the foreign market.
Naiiceeeee. Lobe watching Nestea and MVP play. So profesional. They deserve the sponsorship bonus I reckon, in fact it been a long time coming. WTF has Grubby had a sponsorship deal with steelseries for the entire year with nothing but embarassing results? If steelseries reniew his contract then they must be a bunch of douchebags.
Now steelseries just need to make decent gaming gear and stop screwing gamers. I hate seeing so many people buying their shitty products just for the sake of good players being sponsors by them or just because their products are popular and look cool.
Congrats to MVP and Nestea. There are literally no 2 players more deserving of personal sponsorships than these 2. I hope this means we will see them at many more foreign events.

Since when do Steelseries mice and keyboards look cool? They look exactly like the generic Dell keyboards they have in my school library.

What the hell are you even talking about lol... Steelseries products are good, the quality of their stuff is amazing. I don't buy products because the company that makes them sponsor good players I buy products that are efficient, high quality and long-lasting and Steelseries fits all of that. If you wanna look at shitty products that are only bought because they "look cool" look at Razer, not Steelseries.
Personally I've been using Steelseries headsets for ages and more recently one of their keyboards and I absolutely love them, this is coming from someone who has wasted many a dollar on cheap and plastic-y Razer keyboards and mice only to have them fail/break a couple weeks/months later. Congrats to Steelseries and Mvp/Nestea, hopefully both sides benefit equally from the partnership.

Their Mice have acceleration. They have now started marketing acceleration as a feature because they dont want to take the hit to their current sensor distribution and upgrade to pricier avago optical sensors (like the sensor in the deathadder or the new sensor in the CM storm spawn). This is why SS gear is overall crap. They make a mech keyboard with blacks, every mouse they have except perhaps the ikari optical has acceleration that absolutely cannot be disabled (sensor sided). Then they slap competitive gamers in the face and rip off casuals by marketing their dastardly mice' shortcomings as features. I'd love to say that putting the money they're putting into these players would more than pay for a better quality mouse, but the probably is people see MVP or Nestea on the box and buy it. They are fine with acceleration it seems.
Steelseries makes their players use their gear. Will be interesting to see if it affects their results. I don't know of any gamer on the tournament scene that voluntarily uses Steelseries gear. I think almost all of them use razer or logitech when they are free to choose.
the only steelsieres gear I'm useing is a mousepad and only because it was the cheapest one I think its kinda ridiciulous to spend 40€ for a razor mousepad when a Steelseries pad costes like 10€ and the quality difference isnt existant. Other than that the Steelsieres gear is crap and not worth their prize.

Why don't you simply buy products that conform to what you enjoy in a product instead of criticizing those that don't? I'm thankful for Steelseries for marketing their mice as they do - if they didn't, I might buy not understand what I'm paying for when I buy their products. Lots of amazing players use Steelseries mice, and many (yes, a minority, but good for Steelseries for acknowledging a niche market) prefer a mouse with inbuilt acceleration. Last time I went to a LAN, one of the top two finishers had a Kinzu, the other had another Steelseries mouse (can't recall the name, looks like a kinzu). Talked to one of them: he simply thinks he gets better control out of it. Also: you're criticizing their keyboards for using black switches? Last time I checked, most people preferred it.

No they don't. Mvp and NesTea still use their old gear (qsenn keyboard, logitech mice). I know that NaDa and Demuslim use Qsenn too and they are sponsored by Steelseries aswell.

actualy i believe only kinzu has hardware acceleration (but still used by some pro). The 6gv2 is quite cheap for a mech one (and used by many pro). Maybe their mouse is a bit expensive (sensei oô) but i bought my Xai 20€ and i do love it

What I don't fully understand is how can Steelseries prove that their product is good when some of the players sponsored don't even use them? Now this is more understandable if a team is sponsored like EG and 1 or 2 players don't use the keyboard like DeMuslim but if Steelseries has a specific player that they're sponsoring and he doesn't use their mice and/or keyboards then I fail to understand the point of sponsorship. Granted this is in the case of Starcraft because a keyboard and mouse is what you use to maneuver things in the game. This would be equivalent to a Halo player using an Astro headset when sponsored by Steelseries.

Maybe you don't buy products of a company because they sponsors good players, but some do. A lot more than you think. Do you really think Steelseries is popular because they products are high quality? Hell no. Just open a pair of siberia and you will understand. Truth is that Razer is as cheap as Steelseries, their products are cheap quality and are sold at high prices and because of all the marketing around it, they are popular. Only Razer mice tend to be more popular because some don't use crappy sensors.
After buying their crappy 1st version of siberia that broke after a year and a half (btw they broke because of the crappy quality of the headset itself and the design), seeing so many friends buying some siberia's that didn't last more than 2 years, buying their 5hv2 that also broke after about 1 year (had some wires problems and my friend couldn't even fix it because the wires didn't want to be welded), trying their mousepad that was pretty good at first but worn out in a matter of months of intense gaming and finally tried some of their mice, I personally can say that Steelseries products are everything but good. The quality of their stuff is as amazing as Razer, and that means really cheap for the price you pay. Only the mech boards from Steelseries are worth buying.

I was getting ready to disagree with you until that last line. The Steelseries 6gv2 keyboard is one of the greatest computer accessories I've bought. I did end up returning the siberia headphones though, they were too tight.
Actually Im quite happy with my siberia v2 , theyre quite comfy.
as always its a matter of personal preference; the siberias are nice , you could get a plantronics that did the same for less price , but if you like the siberia , you buy them and go on...
