Category 2 means nothing, especially three hours inland like Raleigh is. EDIT: Expect lots of rain though. Floyd was a category 2 by the time it NC. It really hit hard in the Bahamas though.

In areas where the building codes and infrastructure are designed with hurricanes in mind, a category 2 hurricane is very nearly completely harmless. Just stay inside where flying objects won't smack you, and you should be ok. Nobody here worries about a hurricane until it hits category 3, and we've been through a lot of hurricanes. Raleigh is pretty far inland, so I would think even with the hurricane making landfall at category 3, it will weaken enough that it won't be dangerous by the time it hits Raleigh. Make sure to fly in ahead of the hurricane, and prepare for lots and lots of rain, and you'll be fine.

Having lived in Florida all 21 years of my life, I can tell you that people only get extremely worried and over-prepared when a category 4/5 hurricane rolls around. And it's the coastal cities/areas that get affected the most. Not to say of course, that inland areas don't have some after-effects too, but it's not as major as the coastline. With Raleigh being so far in-land, I imagine you wouldn't have to worry about much except a breeze with gusting, and rain. If it's your first time experiencing a hurricane, then do take caution, but I can almost guarantee you it won't be as devastating as you might think.

Hopefully this weather wont cause lag for the competition because of a lack of LAN support from Blizzard =.= And on that same note, hope the streams run as well as they did in Colombus, Anaheim.

I definitely think that yes it's not that big of a deal, but it's definitely nothing to take too lightly. ![]() If you look at the picture linked above, Raleigh is roughly just right and in the middle of the "I" in "WILMINGTON". So I don't know if Raleigh is too far inland like people are saying. It's right on the border between High and Med threat level. Ah, I'm sorry. I think the guy you quoted's language just kinda threw me for a loop. I'm sorry, and I do understand what you are trying to say.

it wasn't as bad as new orleans where people abandoned the area, but there were almost no active police and it took like 5 days for my friends and i to find a very specific spot that caught a cellphone signal, and it was on accident. you could pretty easily steal from stores and stuff like that. forget about running any kind of event that requires electricity without a mass amount of expensive as fuck generators. even then, good luck with the internet and hope the ISP had their generators running in anticipation and are able to do even close to as good of a job as they normally could with people likely taking work off. power outages could totally ruin raleigh, and while you might not be worried about trees being uprooted left and right and falling on people or some shit, it's still serious business.

It is however looking like a potential category 2-3 when it hits the Raleigh area which is not a laughing matter if you're not from around the area. Bring an umbrella or two or even a poncho as umbrellas snap like toothpicks in 100+ winds. I definitely recommend against umbrellas during hurricanes. Get a good raincoat.
