Best case scenario will mean a shit ton of rain and pretty high sustained winds and gusts of 70+ miles. Tropical Storm - lol Category 1 - lol Category 2 - Put some wood around some big windows if you live in a mountain of small rocks, otherwise just dick about Category 3 - Shutters up! Category 4 - Shits going down, expect something to go wrong. Category 5 - Leave town. Category 2 is a joke. Not sure if trolling but anyway, category 2 is certainly not a joke. This is serious stuff. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saffir–Simpson_Hurricane_Scale#Category_2 I live in Southern Louisiana (extremely south) and Cat 2 isn't that big of a deal. The only way I can see a Cat 2 lifting a house is if the house is shitty and it is at the worst possible part. For Cat 2 Hurricanes, no one in my area evacuations and a lot of people actually play in the hurricane. The wind is really soothing. Now of course, depending on the path, it might be a mild thunderstorm, and we'd get unlucky to get the power knocked out, but it is no wreaking havoc matter. Although no electricity would suck for MLG. Candadar is 100% correct though. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurricane_Marty_(2003) 100 million dollar damages seems pretty big deal for me That is one Cat 2 hurricane out of a bunch...and it is in Mexico, so maybe they don't have the best infrastructure. Either way, I'd consider it an extenuating circumstance. Also, it hit a month after another hurricane, so that might have something to do with it. edit: Holy shit, Raleigh is pretty far inland. It shouldn't be anything. Wow, that's the craziest path for a hurricane ever. Probably no other hurricane has traveled along and parallel to a land mass for so long, especially when considering this one had a land mass on either side so you basically double the length of one travelling up a normal coast.

I'm honestly not too worried about a CAT 2 because Raleigh is damn near in the center of the state. Expect heavy rain fall, that's about it. Nothing too crazy.

One heads up to everyone though, around the Raleigh area especially near where MLG is we always get a lot of flooding of roads. We have a lot of these river areas near low points in roads and when we get a lot of rains we tend to have a lot of flooding on mostly back roads. I only bring it up so that if we do get a lot of rain and people are driving through those areas take it slow, try not to drive through if you can because people's cars flood all the time when they think they can get through. It isn't really a big deal, more of a pain then anything but for whatever reason that always happens here and it shuts down random roads.

Those are words of wisdom. Because we are several hours inland it is rare for wind to cause too much trouble (Fran being an exception), but the flooding is what gets people. If you see a puddle do not test its depth by driving into it!
