The contract would be "You represent us at tournaments, we feed/shelter/train you". If this were the case puma said "I'm no longer playing for you and as such I am moving out". Thus end of contract. It would be different if Puma were to demand being allowed to stay in the team house. My idea is valid, but I have studied at least some law courses, which is not the case of everybody here. A contract is an agreement between 2 parties. THAT'S ALL. That's a contract. Puma accepted to play under the TSL tag while TSL provided lodging/training. I just assume that the TSL manager trusted Puma and that he followed what was THE USUAL TERMS IN THEIR INDUSTRY, even if not written ( i.e maybe a one year long contract, if you want to quit, talk to us , etc...). Exemple: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/contracts-101-make-legally-valid-30247.htmlDoes a contract have to be in writing? In a few situations, contracts must be in writing to be valid Meaning that in most cases, they are are not written. Guess what, when you buy groceries, you never sign a contract, yet there is one between the seller and the buyer. Law 101.... Morrisson did you fail to read the update????
The owner of TSL already said there was NO contract, I repeat NO contract for his time there at TSL. He also stated that its all based on trust and faith. There was no WRITTEN contract, god. That doesnt mean there was no contract..... LOL! Yes it does! This is business, what in the world are you talking about? SC2 is a globalized market, the honor system won't work anymore!
Good points. Im not sure how anyone, esp. an aspiring lawyer would expect a verbal contract to hold up. You would get chewed up in court and no jury would ever side with you if you argued that.
In pharmacy, if a patient loses their prescription for a controlled substances, tricks their way into getting an early refill and ODs and dies. The pharmacist ALWAYS gets owned unless he goes through the proper documentation. Which means filing the insurance paperwork and keeping a log of the patients story. Otherwise the pharmacist is fucked if they only went with a verbal consultation.

im late to the part but who was the protoss they picked up?
anyway this is great for EG, I hope Puma can stay tip top training with lesser training partners.

And why do you have such high expectations of him? If MC signed with EG and started living/practicing with them, sure.

Puma vs IdrA matches for EG's ace coming I bet. I would love to see who is able to win that one. They are both amazing players.
Also great opportunity for EG.

SultGuy: you're absolutely right. So what does it say about the game and the teams when they don't take serious steps to protect their most valuable assets (players)?
There are ways to ensure contracts are binding that don't involve the courts. If you have an international SC2 sports association that agrees to disallow players and teams that violate a given contract, it simplifies the entire process. Having a regulatory body provide a structure for players and teams to interact would prevent events such as these from causing needless drama.

Good thing you don't speak for everyone because I surely don't.

Actually, I think the hate is more on Puma. EG's move might be considered faux pas. (did I use that correctly?) Puma was the one who walked out on TSL.

inControl is an excellent player who had a difficult choice to make: NASL vs pro-gaming. I loved watching him cast and I have no doubt that we'll see a repeat of his success at the first MLG this year once he's had the chance to get back on his feet, especially with practice partners like Puma and Idra.
Re the Puma hate: people will forgive and forget once he produces results. Everyone likes a winner.

I thought the debate was already over like a hundred page ago ?
EG did nothing wrong legally, period. There was no written contract, they did what they wanted to. Morally, what EG did sucked. They should have at least talked to TSL's coach before signing PuMa in.
Business is business, ok. But e-sport ain't only business, it's also a community and a certain idea of entertainment and friendship. Well, at least it was before all the shit came with SC2.

This is pretty awesome! I hope EG and Puma makes history together! EG Hwaiting!!!

After reading this update i'm sad, way to reset any steps taken to make Esports unified.

I'm saying that it doesn't say anything. That even if Puma did have a contract there is little TSL could do to force him to honor it anyway. If he wanted to play for EG he could. If he lives in Korea and oGs offers him more money and he takes that, EG will have no recourse. They could hope to sue him if he ever came to whatever state the contract states the the venue for court will take place if there is a dispute. Other than that they would be in the same boat as TSL. That is just the way it is at the moment.
A regulatory body is the way to go right now given that nobody else has the recourse to ensure contracts are honored or at the very least penalize those organizations/players that don't honor them.

For people saying that fruitdealer leaving is the same thing imo its not. The reason why tsl is upset because it was done behind their back(read his reasoning) hes not upset his players left him for another team...it happens gotta get use to it. He doesnt like the fact that puma was contacted without their knowledge and a contract was struck without their knowledge....its not "oh no my star player is gone lets cry about"

WhiteDog: this is why it is never wise to mix business with friendship. Its like moving in a new appartment with your friends as roommates. Worst. Idea. Ever.
Sultguy: I agree.

Here's hoping for a good show and rather than drama amplification, drama clarification.
If you needed a reason to watch Weapon of Choice tonight here you go. Show starts in about 36 minutes.

i really hope incontrol steps up his game, i've always been a huge fan, and hopefully now with puma, demuslim and idra, and axslav to practice with he can reach the level he's capable of.

Or perhaps the conditions in TSL aren't as conducive to players as one might think?
